Some people may not understand the following, I do not believe DC should be allowed to have guns, but, when guns are made available in DC, I will be one of the first to buy one. Let me explain the first part, it would be nice to live in a city and not need/want a gun in a home, people respected each other, and crime was low, ninety eight percent of those who commited a murder were being brought to justice, and we did not need guns in our homes.

The real facts are DC is not a nice place to live for mainly one reason,  I live in ( life time)DC, CRIME, the police are outwitted by mostly all of the thugs , murders get away too often. Last year my wife was robbed by a thug as she was about to enter our home, keys in hand, yes, the thug had a gun,  yes, the police did not get him, yes, he had already stolen another person's auto, later the owner sent back my wife's id, found in the recover auto, no, the police had no clue to check the auto after it was recoverd, I'm sorrry to say, if you live in DC and want to protect your family and home, get in line to purchase a gun , it's sort of sad but this is life in the nation capitol, unwanted as it may be, you need a gun to help keep a sense of well being around your home. Sorry to say gun stores will do very, good business in DC.

Quite honestly if I did live in DC I would already have a gun. I figure I would rather get charged for the gun violation than my own funeral costs.

I didn't keep a gun until I saw the "Thugs of Katrina" in action!

I think that people have the right to protect themselves. Those of you who think that all of a sudden the gun ban being lifted will result in a ton of violence crimes should A. Take a look at how bad the crime in Dc already is, B. Take a look at other places where gun possession in one's home is legal but also carrying a gun on your person is, and you don't see the catastrophic jump in violent crimes and such and lastely C. See how you feel when someone breaks in your home and you have no way to protect your wife, kids, and yourself, but dial 911, i am sure the police will get there in time.

Hello,

It seems those who do not live in DC, have the most to say about DC, and most don't understand the history/problems a city like DC has, they get their news from tv, who mostly lead by blood on news. DC has too much crime in some areas, other areas are as good or better then where you may live, in terms of crime, housing, entertainment and opportunity, despite this, crime is real, it's no joke, I wish people would take crime/murder more serious, then maybe you could speak well of YOUR CAPITOL CITY.

WE ARE NOW ARMED. YOU MAY GET A HOT LEAD INJECTION BEFORE YOU BURGLARIZE, MURDER OR RAPE.
THANK YOU SUPREME COURT AND FORGIVE THOSE WHOM ARE NIEVE!

As a law enforcement officer in the District of Columbia, I am interested in see how we handle the first use of a legally registered handgun. There are NO self defense laws on the books in DC. So if you use it, you will lose it, along with your freedom. Yes you will be going to jail. And before you good citizens start complaining about how the lazy DC Police officer would rather lockup a victim, than a real criminal, our hands are tied by the current laws. Yes, I agree that I rather be sent to lock up than the morgue, but when can you defend yourself has not been outlined. Most people do not understand the number of laws that need to be addressed before a person can defend his or her home without fear of prosecution.

Born, raise in DC, Cardozo High 67. Some of my beliefs, there's too much violence. Murder is the most vicious act of all. We need to attack the worse crimes first to help cure the rest. All laws related to major crimes need to be reviewed and made clear for like crimes, all like crimes need similar punisment, regardless of wealth or race, using a three step senctencing manner, base on similar crimes, for major crimes, except murder. Murder would be 25 years or Life. I'm working to improved my website for early 08, please stay tune, and Cherish Life. PS. Please visit my updated site @ www.snitchonmurder.com
