Barack Obama has been elected the 44th President - a historic day for America and the world!!!
However - with this historic occassion comes new responsibilities:
1. No more thinking its acceptable or funny to have bad credit - because he's "upped the game" for us.
2. No more thinking its acceptable to have 3 babies' mommas - because he's "upped the game" for us.
3. No more thinking that its acceptable or funny to not answer your phone to avoid bill collectors - because he's "upped the game" for us.
4. No more thinking that its ok to barely graduate from high school and not go to college, develop a trade or start a business - because he's "upped the game" for us.
5. No more thinking that its ok for our men NOT to be fathers to their children -because he's "upped the game" for us.
6. No more thinking that its acceptable for our young people to dress like thugs and hoodlums while using profanity on public transportation - because he's "upped the game" for us.
7. No more thinking that abstinence before marriage is optional, and that its a badge of honor to be a 'player' - because he's "upped the game" for us.
8. No more thinking that eating all kinds of fried foods and processed sugars (which we know will lead to health problems for us) is perfectly fine - because he's "upped the game" for us.
9. No more acceptance of drugs and alcoholism in our community because we're powerless to stop it - because he's "upped the game" for us.
10. No more using the excuse 'the man is holding me back' - because he's "upped the game" for us.
11. No more spending extra money on rims, weaves and expensive clothes when you know it should be put into retirement and savings accounts - because he's "upped the game" for us.
12. No more having 'our' kids think that the only way out of poverty is through dribbling a basketball or rapping mysogynistic lyrics - because he's "upped the game" for us.
13. No more using more slang and ebonics than standard English (or French or any other language you may know) - because he's "upped the game" for us.
14. No more thinking that its humorous to yell at the movie screen in a theatre while the feature presentation is showing - because he's "upped the game" for us.
15. No more thinking that just because a person is caucasian that they're automatically a racist - because he's "upped the game" for us.
16. No more thinking that its ok for our young women to dress like prostitutes at the clubs - because his wife has "upped the game" for us, too.
17. No more thinking that its ok to resort to violence to resolve conflicts - because he's "upped the game" for us.
18. No more thinking that you are 'acting white' when you use proper English and place homework and other studies before sports and video games - because he's "upped the game" for us.
Its ok to celebrate this historic occassion!!! Just remember - the work has just begun. We all have to do our parts, both collectively and individually.
