Look, enough is enough..Yes, the auto industry is in a sad state of affairs and this situation is going to have a serious trickle down effect if something isn't done. However, this situation is mainly due in a large part, to those who head these companies. You have these auto executives who are begging for more money to stay afloat, but what are they doing to help the situation?..For example, I just heard that they all came to Washington on private jets. Is there some reason they couldn't fly commercial?. And why is it that the "little people" have to always lose their jobs?..Why aren't some of these executives who have a big part in the failure of their companies not let go?..Do you realize just how much money that would save these companies?..Or if not let go, why don't they take a pay cut or not reward themselves with bonuses?..
At what point are those who have placed their companies in this situation be made accountable and suffer some sort of consequences?..They saw this coming and chose not to do anything about it until it affected them (the possibility of THEM not having a job) and now they want the government to bail them out. And like one of the Congressmen said yesterday during the proceedings, if you give these companies billions of dollars to bail them out, they're going to come back asking for more.

This morning on the news, I saw that FO5 is asking people to e-mail the station if they have any problems at the polls tomorrow. Then what?..Nothing was said as to what's going to happen with that information. Is FOX5 going to contact the election board or is this just to let the public know?..

I just saw in the news that Maryland is making some serious budget cuts. However, nowhere did I hear any cuts at the adminsitrative level. Is the governor or his cabinet taking a pay cut?..Are they required to be furloughed as was proposed and I think passed in Virginia?..Why must all of the cuts be for those at the bottom of the totem pole?..If they really cared about managing the budget, then I would think that those at the top would set an example and take a cut in their pay as well. And not only do I believe it should be at the local level, how about the president, vice president and those in Congress taking a pay cut?..Yeah, I know..In my dreams..

Although this is old news, was the reason ever disclosed as to why Mayor Fenty was missing in action at the Democratic Convention roll call the other night?..All I've heard is that Eleanor Holmes Norton had to step in in his place.

Weather
This is one of my pet peeves. I find it quite annoying, but I must admit that on occasion it's quite humorous, that whenever there's a hurricane, tornado or some sort of storm, the networks send their anchors and weather people to the scene to endure the severe rain and wind just to get a story. I just don't see the need to place these people in danger.. I've seen more than a couple of reporters practically blown down the street because of the high winds. I saw one reporter actually blown on his behind awhile back. But instead of the network cutting from that scene, they continued to roll the camera while he struggled to get up and stayed with him until he did so. I guess it was mandatory that he finish his report.
The networks must feel that the more wind and rain a reporter can endure, the higher their ratings?. And why can't they direct the camera towards the rain and wind and report from a safe location inside a building?..I saw a reporter this morning out in the wind and rain interviewing three guys who owned a restaurant and decided not to evacuate. Uh, could they not interview these guys INSIDE their restaurant??.. Also, if there's a supposed curfew beginning at midnight, why are these reporters allowed to be out on the streets beyond that time? Well, I'm off my soapbox.

I just read the story of the couple who were arrested for leaving their 4 & 6 yr old kids alone in the house..And the reason?. They believed that the babysitter was on the way..Well, if you think about it, why should the babysitter show up at all after being told by the couple to be careful because immigration officials were in the neighborhood and the babysitter isn't here legally?..Maybe immigration should check to see if this couple is here legally.

One of the bloggers on this site has chosen to filter responses that are posted on his/her blogs for appropriateness prior to allowing the rest of us to read those responses. This person will determine what's appropriate as per his/her guidelines and if a comment doesn't meet those guidelines, none of us get to read them although they may be of interest to some.
Look, people can do what they want on their blogs, but hey, this is just a public website where people share comments, ideas, suggestions and the like. And I'm sure that many read these blogs just for entertainment purposes. Sometimes we agree with each other and sometimes we don't. And I believe that the majority of us are o.k. with that. But to go through placing comments in a holding pattern, reviewing them, and then releasing them once they've been approved seems to be a lot of work. If that is going to be the procedure, then maybe this person should have their own private site where they can list what's considered "appropriate content" including words, opinions, etc. and anyone who desires to post a comment would know what's allowed and what's not.
Not a sermon, just a thought.

I've been watching the Olympics and think that there have been some great events. However, the obligatory interviews with the winning athletes have been almost unbearable and just bring down the whole celebratory mood. Some of the questions that are being asked are so stupid that it makes me wonder if the interviewers have a brain in their heads or are just repeating the questions they're given. How many ways can they ask Phelps how he feels after he wins a meet?..Has anyone else noticed this?

Well, I just read a news article online stating that the director for the Dept of Employment services has been fired. Not that I'm surprised. So, someone else will step into this person's shoes and have to clean up this mess. But get this, as per the article I read, Fenty said that he should've known more about the problems and known about them sooner. Is he serious??!!!..It's been in the news all over the place. Online, on the news and in the newspaper. Where the heck has he been??. That's a lame comment and one that should never have come out of his mouth.

I just read that the "cute little girl" who was singing in the opening ceremonies at the Olympics was not the first choice. Because officials felt that the original girl chosen to sing wasn't pretty enough, she was substituted with the one viewing audience saw. And the one we saw was lip syncing. Now, I can accept the lip syncing as I suspected that as I was watching the show. Plus, it's done all of the time. However, to make this substitution at the last minute for, as they say, aesthetic purposes and for officials to say that the audience will understand that this was done in the national interest just blew my mind. Quite interesting to say the least, huh?

Maybe it's just me, but what's the point of reporting the price of gas on each and every news cast??..I think we ALL have driven or rode past a gas station at least once a day and saw the prices. Reporters go out every single day to gas stations and ask the same questions; "What do you think of the gas prices?", "How are the prices affecting your daily life?", "What are you doing differently because of the high prices of gas?". Look, until it affects someone of importance, nothing's going to be done. I've not heard one congressman/senator, gas station owner, grocery store manager, etc. offer any sort of relief plan for the continued rise in gas prices. Well, let me correct myself. Yeah, mass transit is an option, but that too can be expensive if you choose to travel by Metrorail. Especailly when you don't live near a Metro station. You then must drive to the station, pay for parking and then pay for the Metro ride.
So, those who can afford to fill their gas tanks & buy those foods that have increased in price due to the gas prices will continue to do so. And those who cannot afford the aforementioned will sacrifice and/or do whatever they can to make it through the day. Will the news stations stop reporting this?. No. However, for those who are affected on a daily basis, It's SOOO frustrating to hear this news every day.

Frederick county is holding hearings regarding making English the official language for that county. One objection to this is the increase in the number of Hispanics to the country who do no speak English. And to accomodate this part of the polulation, I think we all have seen signs, documents, etc. in both English as well as Spanish. However, there's a cost associated with having to have this done. Should we have street signs, documents, books, pamphlets, etc. in both English and Spanish?. And what about those who come here from other countries who don't speak English?. Are we going to accomodate them by providing the aforementioned in French, Chinese, Indian, etc.?..What say you?
