Well it took several weeks but my son is finally back with his friends and teacher.

The worst part about this whole thing is he was showing the signs of stress and unhappiness and other things we would be able to express but he can't. My husband had to get involved in order to get everything changed. My son is now happy and back to learning with his teacher.

My opinion of the programs they offer the special needs children is not adequate. It is not that the teachers do not do their job but they don't offer enough technical support such as enough VOD'S which assist and help the students communicate. I can only say that my son learns more at home as far life skills.  The education he gets is ok and it teaches his to socialize. something has to be done to change these programs.

As you all know my son has Down's Syndrome and is in a special education program. Well as usual they are trying to pull a fast one on us. He can't really talk well and has a machine to talk with but it doesn't include issues with the school just the necessary phrases.

As written in an earlier blog he had been home schooled by me since he wasn't receiving any form of education. so we schooled him and he excelled.

He did very well last year with a great teacher and is best friend. He and his best friend challenged each other in their tasks.

Children with disabilities do not make BFF very often but these 2 children just clicked. We were all very happy.

I did not receive any calls from his school and there was no meet the teachers and staff night. So we figured everything would be the same, WAS I WRONG!!!!!!!!

At @ 1:20 pm a call came in, I was sound asleep and this person introduced themselves as my sons new teacher, needless to say I woke up very fast and wasn’t happy at all.

This is unacceptable he had been taken away from his teacher and his BFF!!!

I was at the school the next morning after several conversations with the director of the school.

The details are still being worked out nothing is set in stone as of yet but they are trying to meet his needs and keep the two of us happy. If worse comes to worse he will be home schooled just s he was during the summer and he progressed and didn’t loose any of the knowledge he got last year. But we keep schooling him all the time, he learns quickly and has even been saying a few sentences!

I am so tired if of fighting with special education! They sent home the regular school handbook and actually insisted we sign that we received it, well that’s not happening! A written request was sent back requesting the special education edition we will see what the answer is. They try to give us all these foolish rules as it suits them at the time but what they forget is there are plenty of pages and information on parental rights and that is what I go by.

Lets wish him luck and a proper education!

KNOW YOUR SNAKES MANY VENOMOUS AND NON VENOMOUS ARE ALIKE Many snakes look the same a prime example of this is the water moccasin and the water snakes. They both have what many call a triangular head. The shape of the head can not be an identifying factor. As with the water moccasin and water snake both look almost identical except the water moccasin is short and fat where the water snake is longer and thinner. It can be very hard to identify any snake unless you can see the whole body. It is best to just walk away and the snake will disappear and go on hunting. Many people will ask you the shape of the head but this can not truly identify the snake try and see from a distance if there is a pattern and how long it is. Most water snakes and water moccasins’ look very dark and have very little patterns when they are dry. In the spring when mating season is in full swing you may see more snakes than usual, they are trying to find mates and can be more aggressive than usual. After hibernation and mating they are very hungry and are now in search of food. It is best to leave them to go on their way. There is an example of this in our photo album of the rat snake. Another snake that seems to be confusing are the hognose snakes. They will hood up like a king cobra but this is to bigger to their opponents. A king cobra can grow 8 feet or more where the hognose is a very small snake between 2 and 3 feet. As with all animals they must try and have a defense mechanism against their enemies’.

Snakes shed their skin in order to grow and this is done several times a year in adults and more often in younger snakes. During the preshed the snake may be more aggressive than usual since the eye caps make it hard to see and they may strike out to protect them selves

This is called the blue stage when the skin actually looks a very pale blue covering the snake. Once this stage has past the skin becomes clear and snake is now ready to shed the old skin that is very tight. The skin will be shed head first and usually in one piece you will see all the scales and the eye caps to the tip of the tail. The skin will also hold the pattern of the snake and will make identification of snakes around your home much easier. Due to the stretching of the skin during shedding it will be a bit longer than the snake really is.

Concerning the shedding that was found outside your home with a grayish ting and about 3 feet long could be several different snake a young rat snake, hognose, or several other non venomous snakes. Can you identify a pattern in the snake skin? Could you possibly send us a picture?

A shedding from a snake can tell us a lot, we keep the 10 plus foot sheddings for educational purposes. We dry the skins which makes them very vulnerable to cracking and possible falling apart. These skins have the snakes pattern etc. If the skin is kept in a bag or area where it can not dry out it will smell terrible. When the snakes are ready to shed they give off an odor.

Another important fact is that of a beheaded snake. We recommend you never do this 1 you kill the animal, 2 the snakes head has involuntary muscles and can possible bite for up to an hour after if it is a venomous snake.

Learning to properly handle snakes takes many years, several of the programs out there show professional handlers picking up snakes and handling them. Please do not do this-- these are professionals and know how certain snakes will react to their handling. We have been removing and handling these animals for many years and we still use extreme caution especially with the wild unpredictable snakes. We are glad you are watching these programs and learning about these beautiful animals, we need them to prevent over population of rodents, etc.

TEXAS RAT SNAKES AND MORE

This is the most common snake in the area. They can be found in a range of habitats. The average length of a Texas Rat Snake is @ 4 to 5 feet, but some can reach up to 6 feet and more. The Rat Snake has fairly smooth scales small head the body is not short and stubby by sleek and long these are usually tan and yellow. This snake is a constrictor and will consume rodents with gusto and will eat several at a time. Their diet is not limited to just rodent they will eat lizards, frogs, birds and eggs. The are agile enough to climb trees to reach the birds nests. Unfortunately they have got a reputation of being one the crankier of the rat snakes. If you do get bit you may see some minor bleeding, they are not venomous and do not have fangs. Wash the area THOROUGHLY where you were bitten.

There are many species of snakes in Texas there are 15 venomous snakes in Texas and the rest are not venomous. There are several species of water snakes and many are mistaken for the water moccasin, although they may look similar to many people they really aren't. The water snakes are much thinner and longer and would rather flee but will also stand their ground when cornered. You will smell a terrible skunk like odor this is a defense mechanism stay away. If you are near any body of water or have a koi pond you may run across these snakes and even cotton mouths. If the snake is outside in the grass it is probably hunting for food and best to be left alone it will be gone shortly. If seen sunning to warm up when it reaches the ideal temp it too will disappear.

The next snakes are the smaller ones like the ribbon snake and grass snakes. These snakes vary in colors and are really small compared to the other snakes. They eat a variety of items including those pesky bugs. They move fast to flee away from you and will bite if picked up but these too are not venomous and do not have fangs. Some of these snakes are no bigger than 4 to 6 inches and the ring neck snake eats termites.

The next set of snakes are called the king snakes. These snakes are fascinating they eat other snakes and rodents. The most common in this area is the speckled king snake. It is black with yellowish speckles all over the entire length of its body. The length ranges from 2 to 4 feet and even up to 6 feet. The king snake is immune to the venom of rattlesnakes and copper heads. There is one king snake called the scarlet king snake which is very similar to the coral snake except it is red and black instead of red and yellow although not usually found in this area. There have been a few sighting of the coral snake with white instead of black, they are just as venomous as the normal phase coral snake.

Please remember we must share our space with all the wild animals they were here first. As more new homes and apartments are built there is less and less habitat for the animals and reptiles. Follow the simple rule if outside leave it alone, if it has accidentally ventured inside call a professional. Learn the animals in your area become familiar with what they look like this is very important for your safety and theirs. All snakes have teeth only the venomous ones have fangs, always wash hands thoroughly due to bacteria etc., we welcome all questions and will be posting pictures of snakes and other animals found in this area.

We would like to thank you for reading our articles and becoming informed about the future of our wild life.

What to do if bit by a venomous snake There are 2 types of antivenin, one is produced from the bloods antibodies in horses or sheep. From 1954 the only source for years was the anti venomon from horses. If you are sensitive or allergic to horses you will be strictly monitored to ensure you do not develop a fatal allergic reaction.

In recent years sheep have started to create antivenin for those sensitive to horses. One of the antivenins produced by sheep and approved to us is CRO-FAB it has a special enzyme process used to reduce the risk of allergic reactions. With the new enzyme treatment in CRO-FAB allows the antivenin to be cleared from the body more rapidly, this may result in additional treatments.

Treating snake bites:

Basic techniques are now suggested to be used, no more cutting the skin and sucking out the venom this can do more harm than good.

Stay Calm!

Wash the area with soap and water

Immobilize the bitten area if possible

Get medical help.

Get to a hospital to ensure prompt medical attention.

If you can’t get to the hospital within 30 minutes you can wrap a bandage 2 to 4 inches above the bite to help slow the venom. The wrapped bandage should not cut off the flow of blood from a artery or vein. A good rule is to make the band  lose enough to fit a finger under the bandage.

A suction cup from a snake kit may be placed over the bite which will help draw the venom out of the bite without cutting. These are used only when in a deserted area, hiking, or just exploring!

Snake kits can be purchased commercially especially if you plan on going in the wild. It should be included in all first kits.

If you have been previously treated with antivenom from a horse you will most be likely be sensitive to horse products for the rest of their life.

We are adding pictures of some of the snakes in this area and beyond.

He's 25 and his partner, well, she's 84. In some spots I thought her bones were going to break. She has a bit of limp at the end. It is amazing that she would try something like this at 74 let alone 84.

Lessons in Life

By Regina Brett The Plain Dealer, Cleveland , Ohio

To celebrate growing older, I once wrote the 45 lessons life taught me. It is the most-requested column I've ever written. My odometer rolls over to 50 this week, so here's an update:

1. Life isn't fair, but it's still good.
2. When in doubt, just take the next small step.
3. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.
4. Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does.
5. Pay off your credit cards every month.
6. You don't have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.
7. Cry with someone. It's more healing than crying alone.
8. It's OK to get angry with God. He can take it.
9. Save for retirement starting with your first paycheck.
10. When it comes to chocolate, resistance is futile.
11. Make peace with your past so it won't screw up the present.
12. It's OK to let your children see you cry.
13. Don't compare your life to others'. You have no idea what their journey is all about.
14. If a relationship has to be a secret, you shouldn't be in it.
15. Everything can change in the blink of an eye. But don't worry; God never blinks.
16. Life is too short for long pity parties. Get busy living, or get busy dying.
17. You can get through anything if you stay put in today.
18. A writer writes. If you want to be a writer, write.
19. It’s never too late to have a happy childhood. But the second one is up to you and no one else.
20. When it comes to going after what you love in life, don't take no for an answer.
21. Burn the candles, use the nice sheets, and wear the fancy lingerie. Don't save it for a special occasion. Today is special.
22. Over prepare, then go with the flow.
23. Be eccentric now. Don't wait for old age to wear purple.
24. The most important sex organ is the brain.
25. No one is in charge of your happiness except you.
26. Frame every so-called disaster with these words: "In five years, will this matter?"
27. Always choose life.
28. Forgive everyone everything.
29. What other people think of you is none of your business.
30. Time heals almost everything. Give time time.
31. However good or bad a situation is, it will change.
32. Your job won't take care of you when you are sick. Your friends will. Stay in touch.
33. Believe in miracles.
34. God loves you because of who God is, not because of anything you did or didn't do.
35. Whatever doesn't kill you really does make you stronger.
36. Growing old beats the alternative -- dying young.
37. Read the Psalms. They cover every human emotion.
38. Get outside every day. Miracles are waiting everywhere.
39. If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else's, we'd grab ours back.
40. Don't audit life. Show up and make the most of it now.
41. Get rid of anything that isn't useful, beautiful or joyful.
42. All that truly matters in the end is that you loved.
43. Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.
44. The best is yet to come.

45. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.
46. Take a deep breath. It calms the mind.
47. If you don't ask, you don't get.
48. Yield.

49. Life isn't tied with a bow, but it's still a gift.

50. A REAL FRIEND IS ONE WHO WALKS IN WHEN
THE REST OF THE WORLD WALKS OUT.

Inner Strength

If you can start the day without caffeine,
If you can always be cheerful, ignoring aches and pains,
If you can resist complaining and boring people with your troubles,
If you can eat the same food everyday and be grateful for it,
If you can understand when your loved ones are too busy to give you any time,

(this is a tough one)
If you can take criticism and blame without resentment,
If you can conquer tension without medical help,
If you can relax without adult beverages,
If you can sleep without the aid of drugs...
. .then you are probably The Family Dog!

'I Hope You Dance... '

This was written by an 83-year-old woman to her friend.
*The last line says it all. *

Dear Bertha,

I'm reading more and dusting less. I'm sitting in the yard and admiring the view without fussing about the weeds in the garden. I'm spending more time with my family and friends and less time working.

Whenever possible, life should be a pattern of experiences to savor, not to endure. I'm trying to recognize these moments now and cherish them.

I'm not "saving" anything; we use our good china and crystal for every special event such as losing a pound, getting the sink unstopped, or the first Amaryllis blossom.

I wear my good blazer to the market. My theory is if I look prosperous, I can shell out $28.49 for one small bag of groceries. I'm not saving my good perfume for special parties, but wearing it for clerks in the hardware store and tellers at the bank.

"Someday" and "one of these days" are losing their grip on my vocabulary. If it's worth seeing or hearing or doing, I want to see and hear and do it now

I'm not sure what others would've done had they known they wouldn't be here for the tomorrow that we all take for granted. I think they would have called family members and a few close friends. They might have called a few former friends to apologize and mend fences for past squabbles. I like to think they would have gone out for a Chinese dinner or for whatever their favorite food was.

I'm guessing; I'll never know.

It's those little things left undone that would make me angry if I knew my hours were limited. Angry because I hadn't written certain letters that I intended to write one of these days. Angry and sorry that I didn't tell my husband and parents often enough how much I truly love them. I'm trying very hard not to put off, hold back, or save anything that would add laughter and luster to our lives. And every morning when I open my eyes, tell myself that it is special.

Every day, every minute, every breath truly is a gift from God.

If you received this, it is because someone cares for you. If you're too busy to take the few minutes that it takes right now to forward this, would it be the first time you didn't do the little thing that would make a difference in your relationships? I can tell you it certainly won't be the last.

Take a few minutes to send this to a few people you care about, just to let them know that you're thinking of them.

"People say true friends must always hold hands, but true friends don't need to hold hands because they know the other hand will always be there."
Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we are here we might as well dance

Mothers Who Drugged Us!!!

The other day, someone at a store in town read that a methamphetamine lab
had been found in an old farmhouse in the adjoining county and he asked me a
rhetorical question:

Why didn't we have a drug problem when you and I were growing up?

I replied, I had a drug problem when I was young.

I was drug to church on Sunday morning. I was drug to church for weddings
and funerals.

I was drug to family reunions and community socials no matter the weather.

I was drug by my ears when I was disrespectful to adults.

I was also drug to the woodshed when I disobeyed my parents, told a lie,
brought  home a bad report card, did not speak with respect, spoke ill of the
teacher  or preacher, or if I didn't put forth my best effort in everything
that  was asked of me.

I was drug to the kitchen sink to have my mouth washed out with soap if I
uttered a profanity.

I was drug to pull weeds in mom's garden and flower beds and cockleburs out
of dad's fields.

I was drug to the homes of family, friends, and neighbors to help out some
poor soul who had no one to mow the yard, repair the clothesline, or chop
some firewood; and, if my mother had ever known that I took a single dime as
a tip for this kindness, she would have drug me back to the woodshed.

Those drugs are still in my veins and they affect my behavior in everything
I do, say, or think. They are stronger than cocaine, crack or heroine; and,
if today's children had this kind of drug problem, America would be a better
place.

God Bless the parents who drugged us.

The  first day of school our professor introduced himself and challenged us to get  to know someone we didn't already know. I stood up to look around when a  gentle hand touched my shoulder.

I turned around to find a wrinkled,  little old lady beaming up at me with a smile that lit up her entire being.

She  said, "Hi handsome. My name i s Rose. I'm eighty-seven years old. Can I give  you a hug?"

I laughed and enthusiastically responded, "Of course you  may!" and she gave me a giant squeeze.

"Why are you in college at such a young,  innocent age?" I asked.

She jokingly replied, "I'm here to meet a rich  husband, get married, and have a couple of kids..."

"No seriously," I  asked. I was curious what may have motivated her to be taking on this  challenge at her age.

"I always dreamed of having a college education  and now I'm getting one!" she told me.

After class we walked to the student union  building and shared a chocolate milkshake.

We became instant friends. Every day for the  next three months we would leave class together and talk nonstop. I was always  mesmerized listening to this "time machine" as she shared her wisdom and  experience with me.

Over the course of the year, Rose became a  campus icon and she easily made friends wherever she went. She loved to dr ess  up and she reveled in the attention bestowed upon her from the other students.  She was living it up.

At the end of the semester we invited Rose to speak at our football banquet. I'll never forget what she taught us... She was  introduced and stepped up to the podium As she began to deliver her prepared  speech, she dropped her three by five cards on the floor.

Frustrated  and a little embarrassed she leaned into the microphone and simply said, "I'm  sorry I'm so jittery. I gave up beer for Lent and this whiskey is killing me! I'll never  get my speech back in order so let me just tell you what I know."

As we laughed she  cleared her throat and began, "We do not stop playing because we are old; we  grow old because we stop playing.

There are only four secrets to staying young,  being happy, and achieving success. You have to laugh and find humor every  day. You've got to have a dream. When you lose your dreams, you d ie.

We have so many people  walking around who are dead and don't even know it!

There is a huge difference between growing  older and growing up.

If you are nineteen years old and lie in bed  for one full year and don't do one productive thing, you will turn twenty  years old. If I am eighty-seven years old and stay in bed for a year and never  do anything I will turn eighty-eight

Anybody can grow older. That doesn't take any  talent or ability. The idea is to grow up by always finding opportunity in  change. Have no regrets.

The elderly usually don't have regrets for what  we did, but rather for things we did not do. The only people who fear death  are those with regrets." < /I>

She concluded her speech by courageously  singing "The Rose."

S he  challenged each of us to study the lyrics and live them out in our daily  lives. At the year's end Rose finished the college degree she had begun all  those years ago.

One week after graduation Rose died peacefully in her  sleep.

Over two  thousand college students attended her funeral in tribute to the wonderful  woman who taught by example that it's never too late to be all you can  possibly be.

When you  finish reading this, please send this peaceful word of advice to your friends  and family, they'll really enjoy it!

These words have been passed along in loving  memory of ROSE.

REMEMBER, GROWING OLDER IS MANDATORY. GROWING  UP IS OPTIONAL. We  make a Living by what we get, We make a Life by what we give.

God  promises a safe landing, not a calm passage. If God brings you to it, He will  bring you through it.

How times have changed…

  How old is Grandpa???
Stay with this -- the answer is at the end. It will blow you away!
One evening a grandson was talking to his grandfather about current events.
The grandson asked his grandfather what he thought about the shootings at schools, the computer age, and just things in general.
The Grandfather replied, "Well, let me think a minute, I was born before:
television
penicillin
polio shots
frozen foods
Xerox
contact lenses
Frisbees and
the pill
There were no:
credit cards
laser beams or
ball-point pens
Man had not invented:
pantyhose
air conditioners
dishwashers
clothes dryers
and the clothes were hung out to dry in the fresh air and
man hadn't yet walked on the moon
Your Grandmother and I got married first, . . . and then lived together.
Every family had a father and a mother.
Until I was 25, I called every man older than me, "Sir".
And after I turned 25, I still called policemen and every man with a title, "Sir."
We were before gay-rights, computer-dating, dual careers, day care centers, and group therapy.
Our lives were governed by the Ten Commandments, good judgment, and common sense.
We were taught to know the difference between right and wrong and to stand up and take responsibility for our actions.
Serving your country was a privilege; living in this country was a bigger privilege.
We thought fast food was what people ate during Lent.
Having a meaningful relationship meant getting along with your cousins.
Draft dodgers were people who closed their front doors when the evening breeze started.
Time-sharing meant time the family spent together in the evenings and weekends-not purchasing condominiums.
We never heard of FM radios, tape decks, CDs, electric typewriters, yogurt, or guys wearing earrings.
We listened to the Big Bands, Jack Benny, and the President's speeches on our radios.
And I don't ever remember any kid blowing his brains out listening to Tommy Dorsey.
If you saw anything with 'Made in Japan ' on it, it was junk
The term 'making out' referred to how you did on your school exam.
Pizza Hut, McDonald's, and instant coffee was unheard of.
We had 5 &10-cent stores where you could actually buy things for 5 and 10 cents.
Ice-cream cones, phone calls, rides on a streetcar, and a Pepsi were all a nickel.
And if you didn't want to splurge, you could spend your nickel on enough stamps to mail 1 letter and 2 postcards.
You could buy a new Chevy Coupe for $600. . . but who could afford one?
Too bad, because gas was 11 cents a gallon.
In my day:
"grass" was mowed,
"coke" was a cold drink,
"pot" was something your mother cooked in and
"rock music" was your grandmother's lullaby.
Aids" were helpers in the Principal's office,
"chip" meant a piece of wood,
"hardware" was found in a hardware store and
"software" wasn't even a word.
And we were the last generation to actually believe that a lady needed a husband to have a baby.
No wonder people call us "old and confused" and say there is a generation gap... and how old do you think I am?
I bet you have this old man in mind... you are in for a shock!
Read on to see -- pretty scary if you think about it and pretty sad at the same time.
Are you ready ?????
ANSWER WILL BE POSTED TOMOROW---- CAN YOU MAKE A GUESS LETS SEE WHO IS THE CLOSEST TO THE MANS AGE

Meat from Sick and Abused Cows Ending up in School Lunches! January 30, 2008 11:13 AM

A recent HSUS investigation of a Southern California slaughterhouse has revealed some very disturbing information. Located in Chino, The Hallmark Meat Packing Co. supplies meat to federal aid programs as well as the National School Lunch Program. Video evidence of the investigation shows that Hallmark is guilty of mistreatment and abuse of its animals used for slaughter.

Video Warning: Graphic Images of Cruelty

“Downers” as they are referred to in the industry, are cows that are unable to walk or stand do to sickness or injury. HSUS’s investigation shows that prior to slaughter, many of these downers have been beaten, dragged with chains, shocked with electric prods, sprayed in the face with hoses and even pushed by fork lifts in an effort get them to stand and pass USDA inspection.

Not only is this cruelty horrifying, but it may be putting the food supply at risk--the majority of cases involving mad cow disease in North America have been linked to downed cows. Although many agree that downers should not be eaten, due to confusing regulations set by the USDA, meat from downers is still making its way into the food supply.

Take action now by telling the USDA that you won’t tolerate this cruelty and the threat to our food supply, particularly in our children’s schools.

I have read this story before but really like sharing it!

Subject: Tequila & Salt
Tequila and Salt   This should probably be taped to your bathroom mirror where one could read it every day. You may not realize it, but it's 100% true.   1. There are at least two people in this world that you would die for.   2. At least 15 people in this world love you in some way.   3. The only reason anyone would ever hate you is because they want to be just like you.   4. A smile from you can bring happiness to anyone, even if they don't like you.   5. Every night, SOMEONE thinks about you before they go to sleep.   6. You mean the world to someone.   7. You are special and unique.   8. Someone that you don't even know exists loves you.   9. When you make the biggest mistake ever, something good comes from it.   10 When you think the world has turned its back on you take another look.   11 Always remember the compliments you received. Forget about the rude remarks.     So......... If you are a loving friend, send this to everyone, including the one that sent it to you. If you get it back, then they really do love you.   And always remember.... when life hands you Lemons, ask for Tequila and Salt and call me over!   Good friends are like stars........ You don't always see them, But you know they are always there.   'Whenever God Closes One Door He Always Opens Another, Even Though Sometimes It's Hell in the Hallway'     I would rather have one rose and a kind word from a friend while I'm here than a whole truck load when I'm gone.   Forward to all your friends. And don't tell me you're too busy for this.. Don't you know the phrase 'stop and smell the flowers'? See how many 'bouquets' you end up with!   Happiness keeps You Sweet, Trials keep You Strong, Sorrows keep You Human, Failures keeps You Humble, Success keeps You Glowing, But Only God keeps You Going    THOUGHT YOU GUYS WOULD LIKE THIS

e.org My family and children are always number one, although all my children have left the nest but one and he will be with us for a long time. He has Down's syndrome a severe case but he is the light of my life. We are sure he will live with us as long as we live, and then one of his siblings. He loves all animals as do all my children. They have been brought up with all our rescues. My children have also provided me with 4 lovely grandchildren. Please stop by and learn about the animals and wildlife so we still have them for generations to come.
