Well, as summer winds down here on the beautiful beaches of Ocean City, Maryland...and students pack up and leave for college, foriegn workers pack up and leave for Latvia, Lithuania, Russia, Nepal, etc....I will be packin' up to head to College Park- FOR TERP FOOTBALL!!

Ah, the smell of sausages cookin' on grills, the snap of a cold beer being opened (no more kegs saddens me) , a sea of red clad people (old and young), did I mention the smell of sausage? The season looks promising with a bunch of returning starters and a linebacking corps like no other in the ACC! Jordan Steffy will get another shot to start the season, and will not dissapoint...with the addition of James Franklin as the new Asst. Head coach and running the offence. The FRIDGE can do what he does best oversee the Team and Coaches and take the TERPS to the ACC Championship! Bring on the Blue Hens, California, BC, FSU, Clemson and Virginia Tech...woooo weee what a schedule, it's gotta' be one of the toughest? If you can't get to the games because you are in Ocean City, buying a great condo...here are the radio stations you can catch the games this year: WQMR 101.1 FM Ocean City & WTGM AM 960 Salisbury.

Now, thats a name I am sure not too many people in Adams Morgan are saying while enjoying a beer and talkin' sports? This is the last name of The Heavywieght Champion in a sport more compelling, technically challenging, and just overall better (in my opinion) than stale ole' boxing. The sport is Mixed Martial Arts (MMA).

Do a Google Video Search on this Russian fellow, whos first name is Fedor...and check out some of his fights (none a true loss). Starting as a Russian military champion...then to Japan and PRIDE...winning all the way. He had his second fight this past Saturday with a beast named Tim Sylvia (two time former UFC Champion) a champion himself. Fedor disposed of Tim in less than a minute- UNREAL! This guy would beat any boxer, mixed martial artist around today or ever for a really fun debate!

I hope this sport catches on in the DC area as much as it is sweeping the rest of the nation...a great sport that deserves coverage! BTW- Go SKINS!!

Now that NFL Football is ushering in our fall (or shoulder) season here in Ocean City, the following guide to FAN bars might come in handy. Remember that the bus is the easiest way to and from these long standing local spots-so go have a couple of drinks and cheer on your favorite team.

To start i'll have to begin with my wifes favorite (and her hometown) Steelers so "Here we go..." The two hot spots for terrible towels and a whole lot of Western PA dialects are first; 707 Sports Bar on Rt 707 in West Ocean City, and the "in town" favorite Buxys Salty Dog on 28th Street.

Now, no slight to my beloved "Skins" but we Washingtonians are outnumbered both in numbers and the bars that serve allegiance to us! We do have staunch support and a long standing tradition of singing "Hail to the Redskins" at BJ's on the Water, located on the bay at 75th Street. The tradition could probably be traced back to "Smurf" and "Hogs" days...a long time. GO SKINS!!

Philly fans can find there brethren hangin' at Pickles Pub on 8th Street. However, I don't think the cheese steaks will compare to the City of Brotherly Loves?

Last, and being a Washingtonian, least the Ravens. Well, I 've got to mention them and that they are probably the most represented fan base in Ocean City. Most bars you will find these purple and black, National Bohemian drinking , goateed Ravens fans...but they are in abundance at The Greene Turtle on 116th Street.

Hope this helps on your shoulder season getaway to Ocean City...maybe I'll see ya' out - at BJ's unless my wife or other influence lead me astray?

Sports fans of all types would probably LOVE the largest bill fish tournament in the world...Ocean City's own White Marlin Open. Always held on the first full week of August this tournament is awesome...in every way.

The purse is huge, with the current 71lb. first place Marlin worth $1,300,000+, man -o-man! Tuna, Wahoo, Mako Shark's and Tuna are some other fish bringing in BIG money. Earlier in the week a 560lb Blue Marlin was caught...BIG FISH.

Anyway, this tournament is great and should be covered nationally, an awesome experience for young and old alike. Come on down to see the White Marlin Open next year   or check it out online at www.whitemarlinopen.com. And don't forget to check out www.awisemove.net.

Long awaited news from the Mayor (Rick Meehan) and the illustrious Ocean City Council. Last night (04/16/2007) they passed a "permanent" surfing beach in Ocean City. For years local, as well as , visiting surfers had to deal with rotating beaches throughout the season. Rotating beaches often meant educating visitors as well as surfers, which beaches were open for surfing on any given day.

Well thanks to the combined efforts of the City Council, ESA (Eastern Surfing Association) and local merchants there is a permanent beach at a location desireable for surfers. The designated beach will start at the Inlet(rock jetty) and run a third of the way to the pier. This is a consitant "break" in town and sitting adjacent to the Inlet parking lot, provides ample parking!

So wax up your surfboard, buy some shorts and head to Ocean City for some waves!

Well we all saw it, or heard about it. That is the complete "dismantling" of the almighty Buckeyes. I will keep my comments to myself , other than to ask a question? Who, in your opinion, are the toughest (top to bottom) NCAA football conferences? Top 3 as a minimum...here are mine.
1) Southeastern
2) Atlantic Coast
3) Big Twelve
4) Pacific Coast

Boy , oh boy, the one game (outside of a Terps game) you don't want to fall asleep watching is one that turns out like the Boise State v. OU game. Just listening to the commentary on the radio on my way to work this morning made me gringe. I can't believe I missed it. You can't be anything but happy for a team from the WAC conference defeating the Big 12 Champs, just a couple years removed from a National Championship. This makes me appreciate that Smurf Blue field all Idahoans are so proud of. www.awisemove.net

Quick survey...Do you like the blue field or not?

I stole this idea off the article in the Sports Section. I figure lets throw in an unofficial poll to the Fox5 College Football Fans? Top 5 make it easy.
Best Uniforms?
Mine- 1) Notre Dame (justa classic) 2) Penn State (simple, tough, old school)note: don't confuse me for a Penn Sate fan 3)Auburn (somehow I like the uni's) 4)Miami (? I don't even know why I like the uni's) 5) Oklahoma (again old school toughness)
Worst Uniforms?
Mine- 1) Oregon (horrible) 2) Wyoming (nothing more boring) 3)Florida (strangely close to Auburns, yet I hate 'em) 4)Tennessee (just ugly- and that goes for the end zone design too!) 5) SMU (come on, a five year old could design better).

Anyway, I am a huge Terp Football fan and they fall somewhere in between the two categories, in my opinion. GO TERPS!

I am a native of Silver Spring, Md where I attended Montgomery Blair High School and then George Washington University. I spent every summer of my youth in Ocean City at our families beach house. I got "salt in my viens" and decided that the beach life was more appealing than than life on 495...so I made the move permanent in 1992. The best of both worlds in my opinion, I live at the beach, but I am still firmly planted to my roots in the DC area. My brother lives in the city, and I visit often. My career is real estate, specifically Marylands Beautiful Eastern Shore, from the beaches of Ocean City to the rural appeal of Pocomoke and Snow Hill. This I enjoy due to the constant fluidity of the market and the people, and clients that I meet and continually interact with. I look forward to being a source of some valuable, some not so valuable information for any of you Fox5 fans, interested in the Lower Eastern Shore and Ocean City!Jay Wise website www.awisemove.net email me: jay@jaywise.net
