Jack Kevorkian (Dr Death) the Michigan pathologist who helped with planned suicides has been released from prison.  According to Mr. Kevorkian and his lawyer(s), he has no plans of assisting with suicides any longer.

What are your thoughts?  Do you agree with assisted suicides?  Do you think that Mr. Kevorkian will restart with assisting with suicides?

I think it's up to the individual person to decide that.

that is a personal decision that should be up to the individual. if someone is positively terminal and in unbearable pain, etc. etc., they should have the right to die on their own terms, and assisted by a doctor if necessary.

Funny how the two most natural actions we do on this earth (other than procreation): birth and death, seem to be the most controversial...and expensive (to the point of bankrupting ppl)

From my point of view, he should have been given a medal instead of being sent to prison. When my time comes, will someone please call him for me?

mjb07, you said exactly what I was going to post and this is "he should have been given a medal instead of being sent to prison." As all here have voiced, it's a very personal decision.

I also believe many doctors are afraid to prescribe large amounts of pain medication for fear of losing their medical license. If someone is suffering, due to a terminal illness, I say they should have medication that will alleviate their pain.

i feel the people who put him in jail in the first place should be put in jail. there is nothing wrong with a doctor assisting someone in commiting suicide when they are facing next to unbearable pain. i was angered when i first saw this on the news. i was wondering why the heck is was in jail. apparently our justice system is far from perfect.

Raz, it's because murder is murder, whether it was done during a bank robbery or in a hospital bed.

Assisted suicide is a touchy subject. As I said, it's a personal decision. But until the laws change or are altered, killing someone with or without their consent is still murder.

I/we should all be able to make our own decision as to pur fates.

I think the last two lines of William Ernest Henley's poem Invictus, says it all;

I am the master of my fate,
I am the captain of my soul.

Should say "as to our fates"

Amen. Cancer was no fun, but I decided to fight and to ignore as much of the pain and anxiety as I could. I didn't need Dr. K then, but as I sat with relatives who died of cancer, I wondered if the ends of their lives had to be so brutal. Each of us has to choose what our outlook on it is.
I think a lot more doctors "help" the process along than we know. I think I'd rather be helped out than go through Alzheimers. That is my biggest fear in growing old.

well we got the sweet Doctor operating in Kansas flying under the radar providing his services performing late term abortions for any reason and there's no great outcry ...so why the he=l look at Kevorkian's field of medical specialty as controversial

He should never have went to prison in the first place. If I'm in pain for a long string of time, I'm in a coma for years at a time, or hanging on by a thread for dear life I would not want to be a burden on my family mentally. My family shouldn't be dealing with the mental stress of dealing with me on a constant basis. Take me out of my misary!!! I would prefer to go to someone like Dr. K to do it professionally.

I man, I think over in Poland, just woke up from a 19 year coma. He was injured in 1988 and went into the coma then; woke up to 11 grandchildren, non-Communist country, and "cell phones amaze him."

Can you imagine....look how we look back on how things have changed over the last 20 years- and he woke up suddenly to all of this.

amazing....Rip van Winkle, lol.

I believe that God is the only one with the RIGHT to decide who dies and who lives. Anything else is murder, period! Don't like it, too bad. We didn't create the earth and all that is in it!
