The House voted today to expand federal hate crime categories to include violent attacks against gays and people targeted because of gender. 

 

Rep. Lamar Smith, R-Texas, said the legislation would mandate different penalties for the same crime.  “For example, criminals who kill a homosexual will be punished more harshly than criminals who kill a police officer, a member of the military, a child, a senior citizen or any other person.”   

 

First off, I don't approve or endorse anyone being ostracized, threaten, beaten or killed for their beliefs but I do have a problem with this bill.  From my initial research and interpretation, we have pre-existing laws that address hate crimes.  Frankly, I don't think we need to have a particular bill of this sort. This creates discrimination.  This bill caters to one group of society and not the population.  A crime is a crime and should be handled accordingly and with fairness.  There should not be a special bill created for a part of society that make the choice to live a certain way.   What next, are we going to create other sub/specialize bills to fit another element of society?

How long before it will be a crime to speak out against Homosexuals? (Think of Rosie's free ride). Too bad Imus isn't gay.

No one points to Rosie as an example of how NOT to live your life. Oh well, maybe people will still get their emotional release by calling the president anything they want to! Doesn't this seem backwards?

I know, I strayed from the subject. Sorry.

I too, think we have enough laws to cover everyone. Just enforce the laws we already have! But then we enter the world of liberal judges. Oh well.

SO, BECAUSE SOMEONE CHOOSES TO LIVE AN UNNATURAL LIFESTYLE, THEY SHOULD GET SPECIAL/BETTER TREATMENT FROM EVERYONE ELSE? SOMEHOW KILLING A GAY PERSON IS WORSE THAN/MORE SERIOUS THAN KILLING A CHILD OR A SENIOR CITIZEN- THE TWO MOST VULNERABLE SETS OF PPL IN SOCIETY?
WHAT IF SOMEONE KILLS SOMEONE AND THAT PERSON'S BEING GAY HAS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH THEM BEING GAY; THEIR GAYNESS WAS JUST INCIDENTAL TO THE WHOLE SITUATION?
RIDICULOUS.
AND AS FAR AS GENDER, I GUESS THAT WILL MAKE SERIAL KILLERS THAT TARGET SPECIFICALLY WOMEN OR SPECIFICALLY MEN AS ONES WHO NO LONGER COMMIT SEXUAL CRIMES BUT HATE CRIMES. OH BROTHER.
I'MMA LEAVE IT AT THAT FOR NOW, BECAUSE THIS HAS REALLY REALLY MADE ME ANGRY....

A hate bill means that the Speech Nazis will be having their hate speech bill going to Congress soon. And then in about 2 years; you will not be able to criticize anybody publicly and especially gays and lesbians and illegals!! And if you say anything about your wicked and corrupt government or its leaders; you will be taken to jail and you will eventually be in concentration camps if you speak against the one world government of the New World Community!!

And I can't wait until it is all over and those of us who know Jesus as our only Lord and Saviour will be living and enjoying this renovated and gloriously rebuilt Earth!! As Jesus Himself will be our All Conquering Lord and God and King of all kings!!!

Very good Gazoom!! Soon they will be coming after everybody that refuses to take their zombie making beast chip!! At first the Mark of the Beast chip will be a great benefit!! It will have great advantages!! But after 2 or 3 years; they will change its frequencies and codes and make you all brainless zombie slaves of their ONE WORLD GOVERNMENT!!

NOW WHAT WILL THEY NAME IT!!?? Probably something like; The New World Commmunity or something like that!! Or; The World Community of Nations. Or; One New World!! But whatever they name it; it will be used to eventually enslave you and bring you under their total 1984 type of Orwellian existence!!

I agree with you all.

We elect these officials to do what's right for the country, many take it upon themselves to get in office and push their own personal agenda.

For me, if I do/don’t like what my government officials are doing I tell them. These are elected officials.

I’ve come to the conclusion that it's so important that people stay in touch with their government officials and keep their eyes open to what is happening. These guys are passing and modifying laws that can affect us and our families. I realize that everyone has busy lives but if that busyness keeps us so oblivious to what’s really happening around us, we are in trouble.

jadeddude, I agree with you 100% and have you noticed that when someone hetrosexual makes a comment that is derogatory towards/about someone who is homosexual, that it is the hetrosexual that is deemed the one with the problem/the one that needs help and has to go for therapy/counseling/treatment of some kind.

W. T. F. IS THAT? Or, I mentioned this in another blog, they can have their public flamboyant outrageous deviant gay pride parades and it's no problem. But on the other hand, look at how many ppl who are against that deviant abnormal lifestyle get fined and banned for speaking out about how they feel about homosexuality.

ok so now we will have a bill introduced about gay hate crimes..we will recognise that.. but we won't let them get married and have rights..how would that make the Jewish community feel when the Aryians start the hate crimes.some thing is surely getting out of whack..the gay community should have their own laws.. but not if you kill a officer, child,or elderly..there are cops killers out there.. how many have been shot just for pulling someone over for speeding.well it may not have been a hate crime..I want my rainbow back!!!

NOW, let's look at the dictionary definitions (tho there are times when I disagree with a dictionary definition and focus, lol, this wouldn't be one of them): 1) The choice between two mutually exclusive possibilities. A situation presenting such a choice. Either of these possibilities. 2) One of a number of things from which one must be chosen. 3) Allowing or necessitating a choice between two or more things. 4)pertaining to unconventional choices 5) necessitating a choice between mutually exclusive possibilities.
That will suffice as far as definitions go.

As far as 'gay animals' PLEASE. One male dog humping another is not 'homosexual' behaviour, it is dominance expressing behaviour- not trying to actually mate with the other dog! Same thing with other animals. Mounting is a dominance display, nothing more nor less. Male and Female were created to reproduce the species; the instinct to reproduce was created via sexual urges. That is natural law. Male/Male and Female/Female can't reproduce, hence any same-sex sexual urge is against natural law. One more thing: too many hypocrites when it comes to this subject: Tired of men that say "I don't like gays but two females are ok." Doesn't work like that because it's the same concept; it's still against natural law and thus is just as bad as bad. If one dislikes gay men but doesn't have a problem with gay women, one is still an apologist/supporter/encourager of unnaturalness.

LOL LOL Hey, I'm sure you see me get 'slammed' on this site quite often- and I'm also sure you see I could care less what these ppl think of me/what I have to say too, lol. :)

my thing is this too: sometimes in a situation things are just incidental to the situation and have NOTHING to do with a situation, be it skin color, reLIEgion or sexual orientation. So because an incident happens between two ppl of different ethnicities, sexual preferences, gender, etc., doesn't necessarily mean the difference was the reason for the situation which doesn't make it automatically a hate crime....

and back to the sexual predator example.....so now sex crimes wouldn't be sex crimes they would be hate crimes, if one is talking about gender hate crime laws. ***sigh*** Do I really need to break this one down, lol.
