I was dumbfounded and sickened when I heard that a DC judge is suing a small drycleaner for 67 million dollars over a pair of lost pants.  What is more amazing is that the court system is going to accept this claim and waste tax payers money on it.  If this type of pathetic lawsuit is taken seriously, every loser in America who wants to make a free dollar will be bringing these types of suits against businesses.  Isn't there some type of cap against what you can sue for based on the original cost of the item?

I can't believe that there are people out there who would try to put someone out of business and ruin their lives over a pair of pants.  I am just sick about it.  There are people out there who have had true offenses done to them, and that is what the court system is for.  I hope that the courts don't end up taking this type of lawsuit seriously or we are all in trouble.

Yeah, I saw this on the news last week...this is so rediculous. $67 million civil lawsuit for "mental suffering, inconvenience and discomfort." He says he was unable to wear that favorite suit on his first day of work. He's suing for 10 years of weekend car rentals so he can transport his dry cleaning to another store. He believes he is entitled to $1,500 for each violation (apparently they lost another pair three years earlier), each day during which the "Satisfaction Guaranteed" sign and another sign promising "Same Day Service" was up in the store -- more than 1,200 days!!

How would you like to take a case in front of that judge? Anyone have a clue who appointed him as a judge?

the arrogance of this pompous a=s …pardon us all for living judge ...throwin’ his weight around like everyone should bow down in his presence …be interesting to learn on what merit’s and who in the court even decided upon allowing the suit to go forward …them’s some special pants you can be sure when you turn down a $3,000 settlement offer ...what kind of insanity is goin' on here?????

It’d be interesting "eye" to learn who's a proud member of this judge's circle of professional supporters / endorsers ...maybe the "crack head" even???

this is one officer of the court I think we can afford the risk of being without and what I'd give to be the one to tell him "to take a walk"

If you want to let him know what you think:
Pearson, Roy L Jr
3012 Pineview Ct NE
Washington, DC 20018-1617

Or leave a message on his answering machine ('cause he doesn't answer his phone directly anymore...wonder why???): (202) 269-1191

Or send him an email: roypearsonjr@verizon.net

Here is his Bio:
Judge Pearson has been active in the Washington, DC community for decades and has served as counsel or board member for such organizations as the Columbia Heights Youth Club, the Fort Lincoln Civic Association, Inc., Black Seeds, Inc., the Washington Council of Lawyers, and the DC chapter of the National Council of Black Lawyers.
Judge Pearson earned his undergraduate degree from Lake Forest College. He earned his JD from Northwestern University School of Law. After graduation, he was first a graduate teaching fellow, and then assistant director, of a clinical program at the Georgetown University School of Law. The clinical program provided legal research, policy analysis and drafting assistance to committees of the Council of the District of Columbia, to the Mayor, and to various District of Columbia agencies. Judge Pearson has been a member of the District of Columbia Bar since 1978, and of the US Supreme Court Bar since 1985

This is the first I've heard of it; but this kind of thing is one reason of a few reasons why after all these years, I want to leave the legal field.

Interesting that someone felt the need to put his bio up there tho......to keep the peace I won't say where I'm going with that one, but it doesn't take a rocket scientist.

I keep trying to write something constructive and witty, but when I re-read my reply I realize it will only get me thrown off the Blogs.

You know tees, I don't even know how to respond to your accusation. Beagle Buddy mentioned that he would be interested in knowing more about this guy and outside of pages and pages of articles on the current lawsuit this is all I have seen about him. This is his official bio and I can swear on my mothers life that I had no alterior motives for adding it. I am too angry right now to say anything more about your insinuations.

I have a question for the DC residents. Are your judges elected or are the appointed? In Maryland some Judges are elected and some are appointed by the Governor.

Sam, I humbly and genuinely apologize- and NOT because you're angry but because I apparently was wrong. There ARE some ppl who would have posted that for no other reason.... the problem is knowing someone's motive, especially someone you don't know. Sort of like when someone is accused of 'race-baiting' on a blog when they're not.
You see, this is something that some don't understand, respectfully, I'll try to explain: because racism/prejudice/etc is so rampant both obviously and disguised, and if one is someone that has been negatively impacted by racism and experienced it first-hand not a few times, it is very very hard to tell when it is and when it isn't. I will be the first one to say 'NO it's not always race sometimes color of skin of the parties involved is just incidental' but unfortunately history thru the present shows that usually isn't the case.

cont'd.
"Sort of like when someone is accused of 'race-baiting' on a blog when they're not."
Didn't have room up there to say this:
For example, GrandmaM in another blog made a comment on a topic unrelated to this; about when ppl thought the earth was flat. Nothing to do with race or anything. It made me think of some historical info I know pertaining to her comment and I really wanted to share it b/c it's interesting & most ppl aren't aware of it. However, and HONESTLY, I typed the info, but didn't post it because I KNEW I would get accused of race-baiting, or trying to bring up race, or SOMETHING when neither nor would have been the case. It was just historical info that had nothing to do with enmity between ppls, slavery, civil rights, etc.; but because it involved Africa/Africans history (which in the bigger picture is also world history), I could just see the comments rolling in with the accusations.... so sadly, I didn't share tho I would love to share.

Get real, as there are not any pants in the world worth this much even if they were made with the most expensive of diamonds! How can any court in the world allow this type of case to go forward, we as people really need to get a grip and try to convict real criminals.

THE JUDGES PANTS (had to see it in print cause it’s humorous to read)

Somehow prejudice or racism is getting read into this??? is someone tryin' to race bait discussion of the issue???

…what does the act / conduct of instituting a law suit for the ridicules sum the good judge is seeking following his rejection of a settlement of an overly generous offer of $3,000 have to do with anything??? …this begins in nothing more than an exceptionally questionable example of grossly unacceptable behavior of anyone let alone a judge

“cow” …I believe Maryland has a panel that recommends appointments to judgeships when they’re either created or a vacancy occurs …after that the judge must be elected to remain in office

Send this fool judge down to the men's Warehouse and buy him two pairs of pants. The news said that the cleaners already offered the judge 18,000 dollars to settle this, and the butt-plug judge refused..

C-C: Pearson is an adminsitrative law judge. These people are federal employees appointed by Executive branch department heads to resolve intra-agency disputes. ALJs are NOT affiliated with the criminal or civil justice system at any level.

Incidentally, DC Superior Court and Court of Appeals judges are appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate.

Tees, why do you get testy when someone mentions AAs? It seems everytime someone, anyone, writes something remotely attached to an AAs, it always gets on the race track ... just curious ...

I wasnt even aware of this man's race and it shouldnt matter ... he's a jackas+ I can almost see him drooling at a potential payday while he ruins everything those people have worked hard for. They should throw it out of court! The buy him a pair of pants from walmart for his fat, dumb as+!

Thank you Sam for posting his bio. I'm going to let him know what I think of his stupid lawsuit!

Philly, I can just see the Bush haters coming out of the closet foaming at the mouth at your last remark, anxious to pin this too on Bush! Someone get the stun gun ready, for we are about to be attacked by the Bush hating rabid dogs! Who appointed him anyway?

I hear after Judge Pearson resigns over this he will be taking a job as a special advisor to Attorney General Gonzales on Judicial ethics and Tort reform.
