Baytown has recently had the new addition of several red light cameras LOL! I find myself almost coming to a stop at the GREEN light for the fear of it turning from YELLOW to RED in a split second!!! I know it’s not safe LOL--but I don’t want my picture taken on this kind of camera LOL!

So do you find yourself doing the same?? Or do you come to a “rolling stop”? Have YOU ever been ticketed due to your “picture” being taken at one of those red lights??? C’mon…..fess up LOL!!!

I TOTALLY understand where you're coming from! I find myself doing the same thing. There is no way we need a 'surprise' in the mail that has a $$$ fine attached to it! Sure makes me think of that book '1984' I read when I was in high school. 'Big Brother' is watching - LoL!!!

Ah, our 17 year old new driver has been caught in the flash of the light! He came to us and told us that he thinks he saw the "flash", he said he wasn't speeding, but he along with 2 other cars were in the intersection when the light changed. Yep, "got 'um" $75!! so glad he has a job. I have noticed them more now. I saw one "flash" on a vehicle that did "no" run the light. Call me up, I'll be your witness "-)

Here's how the red light cameras are SUPPOSED to work, just so you know.

If you enter the intersection on YELLOW and it turns RED while you're in the intersection, you're okay.

If you enter the intersection (by crossing the thick white line IN FRONT OF the pedestrian cross-walk striping) AFTER the light has turned RED, you are in violation.

They should have a video so you can see where your vehicle was and what color the light was at the time.

Don't be jamming on your brakes just because there's a red light camera. Some studies show the addition of such cameras actually INCREASE the number of REAR-END accidents at any given intersection!

And you're sooooooooo right Ned about the brake thing LOL! I've thought about that too believe me!! Thank you for a very clear explanation---too bad the City didn't tell us this...I wouldn't have been so scared...but I do avoid even going to those particular intersections now!! I go the other way!!

kenswife - those intersections make me very nervous, as well! I've definitely slammed on the brakes a few times, when I probably shouldn't have! I DO NOT want to get my pic in the mail. lol.

That's a negative Ned, state law mandates you must completely traverse the intersection BEFORE the light turns red, meaning if even your rear bumper is still in the intersection, you can still receive a ticket. Also, there is another TxDOT regulation that specifies a yellow light must persist for at least a minimum of three (3) seconds before changing to red.

Guy's.....It's all about the money. It will always be about the money! I got my first, and hopefully my last letter in the mail about 2 months ago. In Sugarland I approached a light on the 59 feeder. It went to yellow for 1/2 of a second and RED. B U S T E D ! They do this for the same reason that they program the lights to nail you if you go over the speed limit. If You drive the speed limit you will find yourself stopped at every light in town. If you go over the limit you will make it through the light just in time to get the radar gun. We have two choices, Drive the speed limit like I do and wait for every red light OR take your chances on a speeding ticket. Either way "Cha ching!" they are going to get paid. Happy motoring!$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
