Recently, I got raked over the coals on another board for objecting to the way someone referred to Barack Obama's inexperience.  They called him "a boy trying to fit in his daddy's suit".

Yes, it's a metaphor.  I get it.  It's still wrong, and even with the best of intentions, you don't ignore your audience just because you want to refer to an adult black male as a boy.  The history of that word being used to refer to black men doesn't go away just because you wish it away.

If you think Barack Obama is inexperienced and looks like he needs to grow into the possibility of being President, SAY that.  There is no excuse for using a metaphor that evokes the disdain many whites have held for the humanity of blacks in the past.  Using "boy" in any context to refer to an adult black male is disrespectful and rude at best, even if you're not harboring any racist intentions.

Barack Obama is 46 years old as I write this.  That's hardly a boy.  If he evokes that image in your mind, you need to look inside your own heart.  I'm not the bad guy for objecting to someone calling him that.

How about ex coke user? How about naive and not qualified in any shape or form. He's a jr.Senator who has not completed his first term in the Senate? How about arrogant and unrealistic. What gaul for him to even run with his altra liberal/socialistic views for his one sided agenda! As for you lambasting us on the history of the use of the word BOY!It is your assumption that it was used as a racial metaphor! We are not going to delete or omit words in the dictionary because you feel slighted at something that just doesn't sit right with you!Grow up and quit looking for racism behind every bush or statement. He will not and should not get the dem. nomination. If he does there will be a Rep. in the White House for four more yrs. this country is not in the habit of putting inept candidates into the most important job in the world! Not even if Oprah thinks it's cool!

What does he and the liberal left really have to offer? Their leaders have been wrong on Iraq. they have been wrong on all social plans. They have presented nothing but a slap in the face of Turkey for something that happened about 100 years ago. They have been unable to pass any legislation, enve when in a majority.

Tell us, WHAT DO THEY OFFER? WHAT CAN THEY DO TO MAKE OUR LIVES BETTER???

Yes *EX* coke user, who admitted it. And when John Edwards was John Kerry's running mate, he also had not completed his term, yet no one cared about that....

You don't even know what Barack Obama's views are, and you're just labelling him as inept as an excuse to hide your racism.

Apply the 'boy in his daddy's suit' metaphor to John Edwards and I might take you seriously...till then, get lost.

and Y3Y3, you can do something to make all our lives better...when you shave tomorrow morning, take one step closer to the razor.

Oooh. never use the term 'boy' when addressing any black male at all (of any age). It is perhaps a 'hate crime'. You can use the term boy for anyone else, but not for black males.
Please....Or view the WAMU commercials which take continual potshots at 'old white men' who are 'free targets' commercially (and are depicted as running the banks [any problem with that?]), and always 'defused' by the young black male. It's 'funny' and apparently no offense to anyone (?). You can't do those kind of commercials to any other segment of the population.
As an 'old white man' I can deal with most of this. We need to be able to laugh at ourselves somewhere. If it takes the older white male population to do provide this, I can handle it.

JD -

obviously you don't care what kind of people represent us. other than the stupid remark, do you actually have an answer to my questions? Other than Duuuuuuuh, lets say.

Liberals like you don't HAVE answers. Thats why I was asking. You prove my point, yet again!

JD blathers:

"you're just labelling him as inept as an excuse to hide your racism".

NO.

Obama IS A newbie, and has NO experience. Big deal, everybody has the ability to stand around running their mouths to hear themselves talk. Thats all he has actually done so far. Same for that bag of pupe Hillary. Same for all the Democratic JA's. Listen to their un-informed opinions, crafted just for fools like YOU JD! You'll fall for any liberal nonsense, and have no concept of how anything actually works.

JD

It' sad. The man is not prepared or experienced in any way to be the president. As a matter of fact neither is Hilary.(One term senator But the thing that bothers you is the word "BOY" Maybe we should re-right the dictionary. (How ever the N word seems to be used by blacks) when referring to other blacks which seems to be OK. Then we can ban rope because we wouldn't want someone to hang a noose or perhaps white sheets. Just because a word or an item was used a certain way (100 years ago) doesn't mean they have the same meaning in today's society. GROW UP.

JD is ASSuming everyone is a racist, and using this misconception, blames the white race for his own shortcomings, flaws and low performance. Typical. HE is the one who has the problem using and hearing certain words. He is using them and understands them from the context of the racist black.

Ok let's call him Jnr.

JD, stop with the racial BS! This is the reason why blacks are still slaves .. They are slaves to their past, to their inability to move forward ... as long as they continue to harbor these views, believe in it, live it, they will always be slaves!

So stop blaming other races for the collective stupidity of some ignorant blacks!

I cringe at the thought of Hillary being in office. Obama does not have the experience to make balanced decisions on foreign policy and will rely on others to help him to make choices much like GW did. Who exactly has any descent qualities to run our country? Should it be Rudy? Who used tax dollars to hire security for his mistress? Then there is John Edwards dual personality.
McCain is strong and willing to make his own choices but no one in the media thinks he is pretty enough to push. So the media kisses up to Hillary and the masses seem to follow along.
It would be nice to have someone with fresh ideas and a strong conviction not easily swayed by the lobbyist or willing to bring their buddies along with them.

I WOULD VOTE FOR ANYONE BESIDES RUDI...Can you imagine all the crime families he would have in or around the white house? Don't beleive me? Me my previous blog about Rudi. Read the names. That is a crook waiting to happen.

Yep, Bush WAS a coke user. He was also an f102 fighter pilot. Obama was once a youngster, so "Boy" would fit as well as your comparisons.

Barak HUSSEIN obama, has good experience. Experience smoking Crack cocaine and sniffing coke as detailed in his book. He has no chance in hell of winning the presidency. Hes also Muslim. His Middle name is Hussein.

Agreed Starrman1.

The good news is that with about 11 months left of campaigning, We may JUST get to see Hillary blow up, scream, and show us what a Bee itch she really is.

The more we listen to Edwards we understand just what kind of IDIOT our VP might have been, and how bad Kerry's character judging skills are.

The Democrats just HAVE to be kidding if they are fielding this group of losers...or IS THAT their best?!!?!?!?!? (Jeez)
