If McCain wins this election, he has a lot of people to thank. But the main one is the media, the liberal media, to be exact.

Allow me to explain.

John McCain BSP(before Sarah Palin) was just another old white dude politician. He was drenched in the stench of George Bush. He was the typical Capitol Hill crony that a lot of people did not want to see in office. He was labeled as the same old same old.

Barrack Obama was the young upstart, the underdog going up against big bad Washington D.C.  He was leading in every imaginable poll, by a lot.

Let us fast forward to ASP(after Sarah Palin). John McCain, or somebody in his circle, made the smartest decision that could be made. They picked a young, out of nowhere upstart of their own. It was an attractive, down to earth woman that wasn't afraid to stand up to anybody. Every man's fantasy is a sports loving hottie with a sailor's mouth. Well at least where I come from. Sarah Palin has a lot of those qualities.

All of a sudden, the media, the loonie Hollywood idiots and Obama's camp were terrified. McCain had a bona fide superstar in his corner. A woman. A liberal's dream...minus her beliefs of course. They had to do something about this.

The campaign was on.

A funny thing happened though. The more the liberal media dug up stories, made up lies and attacked her family, the more McCain's poll numbers rose. The more Matt Damon, Lindsey Lohan and all the other Hollywood idiots tried to force their opinions on us, the more McCain's poll numbers rose.

Their campaign is backfiring. America loves underdogs. The most popular movies are the Rocky movies(all except 5). The media has succeeded into turning McCain/Palin into underdogs. Everyday you turn on the Communist News Network(CNN), they are bashing Palin or her family and putting Obama on a pedestal.

Now they are all screaming, "FOCUS ON THE ISSUES." Their memories are short though, because not too long ago they were just focusing on Obama's iconic status. Its not working, so now, they are trying a new tactic. It's the same thing that the media, and the so called black leaders always try...racism. They are attempting to guilt American's into voting for Obama.

The sad thing. I was going to vote for Obama until the media and Hollyweird put a huge spotlight on what is wrong with politics. Now I will cast my vote for McCain.

Great choice Jay. Are there any issues you agree with McCain-palin on?

I heard her say this morning that she wants Americans to make everything we need ourselves, or something like that. I know they both want to bring jobs back to America, that's one thing I like. I hope they actually do it.

I would've still liked ya and respected you the same if you chose Obama :-)

I just wanted something different, and Obama appeared to have that. But now his true colors have come out.

I like McCain's economic plan, but what I really like is he is more bipartisan than Obama. He is not afraid to cross party lines to get something done.

Thank you, that’s exactly how I feel. I even convinced my husband to vote for Obama by singing his praises during the CA. primaries. Oops.
I guess the wrapping was misleading, he's no prize.

I'm voting for Obama. From the information I've gathered, he has a better economic plan than McCain.

For example:

Obama said he could “pay for every dime” of his spending and tax cut proposals “by closing corporate loopholes and tax havens.” That’s wrong – his proposed tax increases on upper-income individuals are key components of paying for his program, as well. And his plan, like McCain’s, would leave the U.S. facing big budget deficits, according to independent experts.

He said McCain would fail to lower taxes for 100 million Americans while his own plan would cut taxes for 95 percent of “working” families. But an independent analysis puts the number who would see no benefit from McCain’s plan at 66 million and finds that Obama’s plan would benefit 81 percent of all households when retirees and those without children are figured in.

McCain claimed that Obama’s health care plan would "force small businesses to cut jobs" and would put "a bureaucrat ... between you and your doctor." In fact, the plan exempts small businesses, and those who have insurance now could keep the coverage they have.

McCain attacked Obama for voting for "corporate welfare" for oil companies. In fact, the bill Obama voted for raised taxes on oil companies by $300 million over 11 years while providing $5.8 billion in subsidies for renewable energy, energy efficiency and alternative fuels.

McCain said oil imports send "$700 billion a year to countries that don't like us very much." But the U.S. is on track to import a total of only $536 billion worth of oil at current prices, and close to a third of that comes from Canada, Mexico and the United Kingdom.

McCain has repeatedly claimed that Obama would raise tax rates for 23 million small-business owners. It's a false and preposterously inflated figure.

We find that the overwhelming majority of those small-business owners would see no increase, because they earn too little to be affected. Obama's tax proposal would raise rates only on couples making more than $250,000 or singles earning more than $200,000.

McCain argues that Obama's proposed increase is a job-killer. He has a point. It's true that increasing taxes on those at the top would leave them less money for other purposes, including investment and hiring in the case of business owners. But the number of business owners who would see their rates go up would be only a small fraction of what McCain says. Many would see their taxes go down.

The McCain campaign claims that Obama voted to raise income taxes on individuals who earn as little as $32,000 per year. That's wrong.
The resolution Obama voted for would not have increased taxes on any single taxpayer making less than $41,500 per year in total income, or any couple making less than $83,000. The $32,000 figure is approximately the taxable income of a single person making $41,500 per year, after all deductions and exclusions.
Obama's vote (for a non-binding budget bill) does not change the fact that his own tax plan would provide a tax cut of $502 for a non-married taxpayer earning $35,000.
Update, July 11: After this article was posted the McCain campaign and the Republican National Committee aired a radio ad in two states repeating the bogus $32,000 fi

bogus $32,000 figure. The campaign also sent an e-mail to reporters defending it, but failing to note that it refers to taxable income and not total income.

It's probably THE toughest job a man or woman could aspire to, especially right now. In fact there is no maybe about it. It will be a monumental task to un-f@#K the near inexorably ubiquitous damage the Bush /Cheney administration has caused this country. It's no job for a 73 year old who is approx. 10 years older then both his father and grandfather when they died.

I respect your right to your opinion, but I will vote for Obama.

crafty, I agree. The media is trying so hard to get him elected....it's smoke and mirrors. As for the Congress, I can't believe they are getting a reprieve. They promised so much, yet have delivered nothing but idiotic quotes from a crazy lady(Pelosi) and psychotic ramblings from a senile old man(Harry Reid).

I think it's only fair to look at what President Bush tried to do in order to get Congress to reform Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae.

2001
April: The Administration's FY02 budget declares that the size of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac is "a potential problem," because "financial trouble of a large GSE could cause strong repercussions in financial markets, affecting Federally insured entities and economic activity."

2002

May: The President calls for the disclosure and corporate governance principles contained in his 10-point plan for corporate responsibility to apply to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. (OMB Prompt Letter to OFHEO, 5/29/02)

2003

January: Freddie Mac announces it has to restate financial results for the previous three years.

February: The Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight (OFHEO) releases a report explaining that "although investors perceive an implicit Federal guarantee of [GSE] obligations," "the government has provided no explicit legal backing for them." As a consequence, unexpected problems at a GSE could immediately spread into financial sectors beyond the housing market. ("Systemic Risk: Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and the Role of OFHEO," OFHEO Report, 2/4/03)

September: Fannie Mae discloses SEC investigation and acknowledges OFHEO's review found earnings manipulations.

September: Treasury Secretary John Snow testifies before the House Financial Services Committee to recommend that Congress enact "legislation to create a new Federal agency to regulate and supervise the financial activities of our housing-related government spo

sponsored enterprises" and set prudent and appropriate minimum capital adequacy requirements.

October: Fannie Mae discloses $1.2 billion accounting error.

November: Council of the Economic Advisers (CEA) Chairman Greg Mankiw explains that any "legislation to reform GSE regulation should empower the new regulator with sufficient strength and credibility to reduce systemic risk." To reduce the potential for systemic instability, the regulator would have "broad authority to set both risk-based and minimum capital standards" and "receivership powers necessary to wind down the affairs of a troubled GSE." (N. Gregory Mankiw, Remarks At The Conference Of State Bank Supervisors State Banking Summit And Leadership, 11/6/03)

2004

February: The President's FY05 Budget again highlights the risk posed by the explosive growth of the GSEs and their low levels of required capital, and called for creation of a new, world-class regulator: "The Administration has determined that the safety and soundness regulators of the housing GSEs lack sufficient power and stature to meet their responsibilities, and therefore…should be replaced with a new strengthened regulator." (2005 Budget Analytic Perspectives, pg. 83)

February: CEA Chairman Mankiw cautions Congress to "not take [the financial market's] strength for granted." Again, the call from the Administration was to reduce this risk by "ensuring that the housing GSEs are overseen by an effective regulator." (N. Gregory Mankiw, Op-Ed, "Keeping Fannie And Freddie's House In Order," Financial Times, 2/24/04)

His warnings go on and on and on including 17 warnings in 2008 alone. But since it was a Democrat program started in 1969 and put on steroids by Clinton's 1999 Community Redevelopment Program which "forced" the mortgage community to underwrite bad loans. It's all on record.

Isn't funny how our economy gets blamed on the current president when it was the former president who started the ball rolling? Clinton took credit for the boom caused by Reaganomics... in fact it seems to me that he even complimented Reaganomics in many ways. Except in the ways that we are presently paying for.

But I am woefully ignorant of economy for the most part...

ArtistEd, thanks for that information. I've believed that McCain was the best choice for our country and have predicted his presidency since January of 2007 as can be seen in my blog archives.

I moved here from Nashville about a year and a half ago. I am an aspiring writer. I currently write articles for SoCal Sports Hub, about the LA Dodgers. I also am working on a side project - an essay novel with stories that could only have happened to me. I am fascinated by how I can take a story or a blog and post it and see the many different opinions. I do come across as nasty sometimes to other people, but let me assure you I respect just about everybody's opinions.
