The recession is here and even the Fed admits it! Does anyone see any similarity to this period in time to say the late 20s early 30s. Part of the reason the Great Depression happened was the extension of credit secured and unsecured for the first time on a large scale! Because there was no Fed regulations or insurance lenders could call in their dept whenever and loan at whatever percentage they felt like! It was largely the result of personal debt by the average citizen that could not be paid back to the banks and the downward spiral gained momentum until there was a financial collapse across the board! Is this country smart enough to see the writing on the wall, and can we save ourselves from a similar fiasco? When are we as a people going to stop giving away our tax money to countries who despise us and take care of our own! What as a Nation can we do to stop this current economic decline that seems to be gaining steam! This is not a red or blue issue but an issue for every citizen who will feel the economic bite and the repercussions that are already evident! We as people DO NOT want to experience one scintilla of what happened in the 30s to this country that only a World WAR could fix! I can only hope that as a people we can find a unified resolve together and help ourselves before it is to late! Because my American brethren no one else will?  We are always left to ourselves when it comes to help in any form when it comes to the rest of the world!

Jadedude: I have an uncomfortable feeling that, perhaps, our economic situation is intentional. How else can a bunch of fools get us into a another war? Buying on margin was THE major cause of the stock market crash of the 30s. For the uninitiated, a philanthropist would buy stock without paying for it on Monday because he knew it was going to increase in value by the following Monday when he would sell the stock, pay for the original cost of the stock, and pocket the rest. Well..when the market dropped...stock value went thru the floor, these same people could not pay for the stock and lost all that they had..many were so distraught that they jumped off sky scrapers. Yes, I do see the VERY same events going on right now. I am fearful that THIS ECONOMY IS NO ACCIDENT. Bush wants a war with Iran..that is why no one is at the helm. Americans have to get it together..I don't think we can survive another regime like the current one..we need another Bill Clinton presidency to get this economy jump started, get us out of debt, rebuild the infrastructure, on and on.....

But, but our President just said a few weeks ago that there was no recession. Oops, thats right...He was the same guy that said "turrist" were in Iraq.

Whatever happened to the windfall profit tax?

I think Exxon/Mobil in the times of record profit need to pay thier share not get a tax break!

How can profitable US companies all have thier headquarters in Dubai or share the same condo address in the Caymen Island?

How come we no longer benifit from US corporations production?

Why do we continue to deregulate busniess at a cost to the taxpayer?

Why does congress borrow money from China to stimulate the economy so we can buy more Chinese junk from Wal-mart?

Why do we privatize corporate profit and socialize it's losses?

Why do I let this happen? Because I'm a modern day Americian, fat dunmb and happy, an armchair activist. I have a TV remote control in my air-conditioned house with my pea-pod home food delivery. I buy for a dollar and try to sell for two without leaving my house. I'm generally disengaged unless someone is in my sandbox taking my toy's, I'm entitled, arrogant and am sitting quietly waiting for our President and Vice President to jump out of the plane we call The United States of America with thier golden Parachutes. I will watch with a smile happy with the knowledge they protected me from Gay marrige still let's me have my gun.

If we are in a recession I am particial to blame.

Comparing now with the Depression of the late 20's and 30's is apples & oranges. Jade... You either haven't done your homework, or this is just more of your stupid lib brainwashed BS.

You also seem to forget that Bush isn't the only leader required to pass legislation.

Right now you seem to be in a fairy tail world. Get a clue dummy!

HURRAY!!! FINALLY, someone with a modicum of intelligence! Thank you for that! I have been predicting these events for several years now and it has always fallen on deaf ears.
Our Government MUST stop giving our country away. We need to rectify our own financial situation before extending any financial assisstance to those who are not citizens of the US.
Do you think China cares what happens to the US? NO! How about Iraq? NO! How much of our TAXPAYER dollars have been handed over to our enemies for use against us? TRILLIONS!!!
Our enemies are not only abroad folks, they are right HERE living in the US and laughing all the way to the bank!!!
When the US is suddenly caught up in a financial crisis it cannot extricate itself from, the US becomes extremely vulnerable to a military invasion.
This is something that MUST be taken seriously or we may one day find ourselves in a very grim situation.

WAKE UP AMERICA!
