JACKSONVILLE, Fla.  --  A Florida school board voted late Monday night to keep the name of a Confederate general and early Ku Klux Klan leader at a majority black high school, despite opposition from a black board member who said the school's namesake was a "terrorist and racist."

After hearing about three hours of public comments, Duval County School Board members voted 5-2 to the retain the name of Nathan Bedford Forrest High School. The board's two black members cast the only votes to change the name.

"(Forrest) was a terrorist and a racist," argued board member Brenda Priestly Jackson, who is black.

Betty Burney, the board chairman and the board's other black member, also voted against retaining the name.

"It is time to turn the page and get beyond where we are," she said.

Board member Tommy Hazouri voted to keep the name and said it is difficult to know "who the real Forrest is."

The board listened to passionate arguments from those on both sides. More than 140 people crowded into the meeting room, with another 20 watching the meeting on a television in the lobby.

Many urged a name change, saying the Forrest name was an insult.

"Nathan Bedford Forrest was part of the Ku Klux Klan, no matter how you put it. Nathan Bedford Forrest needs to be changed," said Stanley Scott, who is black.

But several spoke favorably of the general, saying the perceptions that Forrest was an evil man who ordered the massacre of Union troops were incorrect.

June Cooper, who graduated from Forrest in 1970, said some people wanted to wipe out Southern history.

"He was a good man," said Cooper, who is White. "He was a military genius."

Despite her opposition, the board's chairwoman noted that the intensely debated issue could distract from students' education and had even prompted one person to receive death threats for wanting the name changed.

"The naming of a school should not take precedence over someone's life," she said.

Some had suggested naming the school after the street it sits on, or honoring a graduate whose plane was shot down in 1991 over Iraq on the first night of Operation Desert Storm.

Forrest High School, which has received two consecutive "F" grades on state assessment tests, opened as an all-white school in the 1950s. Its name was suggested by the Daughters of the Confederacy, who saw it as a protest to the U.S. Supreme Court ruling that eventually integrated the nation's public schools.

But now more than half Forrest High's students are black.

The issue has come up several times during the past half-century, but the School Board has never changed the name. Jacksonville has three other schools named after Confederate generals, but it also has schools named after civil rights icons.

Born poor in Chapel Hill, Tenn., in 1821, Forrest amassed a fortune as a plantation owner and slave trader, importing Africans long after the practice had been made illegal. At 40, he enlisted as a private in the Confederate army at the outset of the Civil War, rising to a cavalry general in a year.

Some accounts accused Forrest of ordering black prisoners to be massacred after a victory at Tennessee's Fort Pillow in 1864, though historians question the validity of the claims.

In 1867, the newly formed Klan elected Forrest its honorary Grand Wizard or national leader, but he publicly denied being involved. In 1869, he ordered the Klan to disband because of the members' increasing violence. Two years later, a congressional investigation concluded his involvement had been limited to his attempt to disband it.

After his death in 1877, memorials to him sprung up throughout the South, particularly in Tennessee. A mounted statue of Forrest and the graves of the general and his wife are in a Memphis park bearing his name.

As far as I can tell the only racist here is Jackson, she obviously has a problem with white people. Whether or not you like the past it is a part of our history. I will never agree with getting rid of the confederate flag or changing Gov. Building names. This is our history; forget it and we may repeat it.

The castration scene aired on Thursday, September 17.  The viewer is spared little as the main character, Clay, uses a cattle castration knife to remove a rapist’s genitals, which are then shown lying in a pool of blood on the ground.

“This graphic castration scene that FX chose to air on its basic cable network is the ultimate reason why consumers need the ability to choose and pay for only the cable networks they want.  This horrific and sickeningly violent scene demonstrates the depths of depravity of some cable networks to shock and offend while knowing that their product bundle insulates them from any consumer recourse,” said PTC President Tim Winter.

The PTC is one of the worst org. in the nation. There motto is "we shouldn't be forced to watch shows we disagree with" yet what they do is exactly what they protest. I guess what their saying is. Our rights are more valuable than your rights. Most of the ridiculous crap they complain about is resolved as easily as CHANGING THE CHANNEL. The above scenario as described by the PTC or as I refer to them NAZI's seems to leave out one important issue. The person castrated was a rapist. There for he was punished appropriately. I find it disturbing that the PTC doesn't seem to have any opinion on the rapist. From what I can see it's ok as long as it's not on their TV. I think these are the same people that fight teaching sex ed. in schools or condoms in school bathrooms. How many more people are we going to allow them to condemn to death because their self righteous BS. This is America, if I choose to sit in my living room in my underwear eating a greasy burger while drinking an ice cold beer and smoking a cigarette and watching a piece of crap get his balls cut off for raping a young girl, THAT'S MY RIGHT if you chose to sit in your house and crochet an afghan while sipping iced tea and watching TV Land THAT'S YOU RIGHT. Other than that piss off. Your rights don't out weigh my rights GOT IT!!! Change the channel jackazz.

And yet once again China exports poison. Tainted milk and milk products laced with melamine the same poison responsible for the death of hundreds of pets in the US. The problem was first reported to the Chinese Gov. on Aug. 8th. But no one was told because of the Olympics. China would rather allow children to die then to tarnish its reputation? What reputation "as murders" How many people should we allow die at the hands of this devil. When a company or a country allows people to die in the name of PROFITS it’s a crime against humanity and the punishment should be death. The Chinese Gov. is guilty of murder. The American companies NESTLE and just as guilty. Nestlé’s point if view is obvious. Americans are too stupid or to expensive to work for Nestle but were the perfect customers. If you intend to sell your product in the US but and are a US company that has all of its products made in China (so we can make the max. profit) then we as consumers should put them out of business. GLOBAL ECONOMY = US businesses shifting their operations to India wages = 1.50 hr. but raising the price of the product to maximize profits. Hopefully no one thinks that this whopping 1.50 hr. pay is benefitting the people in India. However the US Gov. is just as guilty. Do you actually think there’s no solution to the illegal immigration issue? There’s a solution but the solution means that the companies guilty of these offensives who are friends of the law makers would have to hire US the citizens/tax payers of the US. We have allowed the politicians and companies of the US to sell our country off piece by piece for the past 20 years. Now the US Gov. is allowing these same companies and people to kill innocent people in the name of PROFITS. The Gov. looks out for its self and its friends. However we the people have the power. Its up to us to change the direction were heading in. Do not buy products imported from China and don't by products of American companies manufactured out side the US.

Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae are getting ready to go on another roller-coaster ride.

The two companies have rented the Six Flags amusement park in Largo for separate employee appreciation events next month.

"The purpose is to reward employees for their hard work, and we felt that was particularly important given these challenging times and the fact that our employees, you know, have in fact been working very hard," Freddie Mac spokeswoman Sharon McHale said.

It's nice to know while people are sleeping in the park that these A-holes whom are responsible for this mess are parting it up. AT THE TAX PAYERS EXPENCE. I suggest we all contact our local reps. This bail out needs to be squashed. If there unable to keep the business running then too BAD so SAD, Bye Bye. New companies will emerge. No need to try and save a dead stick, especially at the behest of the people.

McKinnon was caught in 2002 after some of the software used in the attacks was traced back to his girlfriend's e-mail account. The U.S. sought his extradition, a move his lawyer Claire Anderson claimed Wednesday was motivated by the government's desire to "make an example" of a man who humbled officials in Washington by hacking into their systems using off-the-shelf office software and a dial-up modem.

Each and every year the agencies at the Fed Gov. get D's and F's for the computer/network security. Here we have a computer admin using basic software anyone could purchase from CompUSA and a dial up modem. McKinnon simply showed the world how antiquated and unprotected the US Gov. Systems are. So instead of fixing the problem they'll spend the money prosecuting. This will solve nothing because someone else will pick up where McKinnon left off. If anyone should be prosecuted it's the Fed. Gov. for failing to protect the network or the people of the US.

And to think they created an entire dept. (Home Land Security) but obviously there’s nothing secure about it.

Turtle Leads Police to Marijuana Field; Teen Charged

It's sad that the news media (FOX 5) can't just report the new. Instead they pay people big bucks to create eye catching headlines. 10 Plants do not constitute a field. I think Fox needs to practice responsible journalism.

"Senator McCain has yet again fallen in line with President Bush while middle-class families are falling by the wayside," Clinton said in a statement following the vote. "Women are earning less, but Senator McCain is offering more of the same."

This shows just how inexperienced Hillary is. The bill proposed by the democrats did nothing to help women other than make it easier to sue. It would not have increased their pay one cent yet Dilliray thinks it's a good bill. Of course she does. She's an attorney and the only one's that stand to make money off this is the lawyers. Not the women.

I always new these people we're full of s%*t. ROCKVILLE, Md. (AP) -- Labor leaders are recommending that Montgomery County ration toilet paper for inmates to help save costs.

The request comes as council members try to resolve a $297 million budget deficit.

The president of the union that represents Montgomery County government employees has given council members a six-page memo of recommended budget cuts suggested by some of the workers.

The recommendations include limiting inmates to two or three rolls of toilet paper a week. Union officials say inmates often deliberately clog toilets to cause problems at detention centers, wasting taxpayer money on both the toilet paper and the cost of fixing toilets.

The director of Montgomery County's department of corrections says he doesn't find the use of toilet paper excessive.

Police received an emergency call and when patrol units reached the suspect to take him into custody, Gonzales fought back. He hit some of the officers while trying to be subdued.

I watched the video and it tells a different story. Looks like police brutality to me. The suspect didn't do a thing until he was kneed by one of the officers. Cops are the biggest liars in the country. Everything that spews from their pie holes is a lie. No wonder no one respects them. At least this was caught on tape.

UN Chief Warns World Must Urgently Increase Food Production

Maybe it's time for these useless, worthless countries to take care of them self's. I don't care if they starve. How is it that the US and many other countries we're able to farm, grow food and build a country. Yet these same countries in Africa have been starving for a 100 years. Who cares. Let them take care of their self's. If you can't then that's your problem. The UN is a complete waste of time and money. The US would be better off breaking away from the UN considering ALL the problems lie on the other side of the ocean. 100 years and they've done nothing. To bad.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- D.C. police are boosting patrols in part of northeast Washington where five people have been killed since Monday.

It's sad to think that the death rate in DC is worse than the death rate in Iraq. I am so tired of hearing complaints about the war when the sad truth is, Your safer in Iraq than you are in the nations capitol.

Dutch Court Won't Ban Quran Film Last Edited: Monday, 07 Apr 2008, 7:19 AM EDT Created: Monday, 07 Apr 2008, 7:19 AM EDT or just enabling jstl so that we can just write ${bean.property} and jsp takes care of the new lines. -->By The Associated Press

THE HAGUE, Netherlands  --  A Dutch court has refused to ban a lawmaker's Internet film criticizing the Quran.

A group representing Dutch Muslims sought an injunction banning right-wing lawmaker Geert Wilders' film "Fitna," which links terror attacks by Muslim extremists with texts from Islam's holy book.

A civil judge at The Hague District Court says in a written judgment published Monday that the lawmaker's right to free speech allows him to criticize radical Islam and passages of the Quran.

The case is largely moot because Wilders posted the film on the Internet the day before lawyers representing the Netherlands Islamic Federation argued that the film should be outlawed because it is insulting to Muslims.

The only thing more insulting is the Muslim religion. These BLEEP feel they can do what ever they please. Every time something upsets them the kill rampage and burn the flag. Maybe one day you stupid azz will figure it out. We owe you nothing and if it's insulting TOO BAD. That's the way we feel when you burn the flag. Go back to the desert to your little mud hut and shut the F up. F,  U and the piece of S#*T you call the Quran.
