I am a student at Benjamin Banneker Academic High School. Today, Monday May 12, 2008. We had a power outage and we still had to attend school. The faculty is already aware of what happend when it rains at our school. The roof is leaking and parts of our ceiling was on the ground. We had no lights for three entire class periods and that is unacceptable. For lunch we were having cereal and thats not something that will maintain us for an entire day. We had no heat and all students walked around with coats all day. The Mayor was the one who made the decision to keep us in school all day. That was an irresponsible choice because the school had no emergency plan for this. No electricity meant that class did not go as planned and teachers could not teach properly because of all of the inconvenience. Children are supposed to come first. So why don't we have a safe environment to learn in? This is a problem that should not be ignored and should be fixed as soon as possible.

Actually you three....Banneker students are the most intellegent in this region. They are not really considered the same as the other high schools you see and hear about in the district. You can not make less than a "B" on your grades. In fact, MD and VA parents attempt to enroll their children in there because it's one of the few schools in the region that carry a IB program. It also boast the last student to ever receive a PERFECT SCORE on the SAT.

So...Priveye...education isn't an issue with these students. Y3Y3...we all know your last sentence is really how you spell. LoL

Thanks BigSmoov for the comment. Those three just make me sick sometimes..... Everyone from DC is not from the hood nor on welfare. Banneker is an excellent school.

Newsbuggy...I really enjoy thier comments sometimes. One day they ATTEMPT TO SHOW their intellegence...the next day (like today), they show us how smart they really are.

Some people will rather stay submerged in their own ingnorance rather than make the effort to swim towards discovering the truth. They are doomed to drown someday.

That day has come! I can't understand why certain folks think they know absolutely everything.... We all have opinions, but everything is not always black and white, some try to make it that way.... Pitiful!

BigSmooov and Newsbuggy:

Everything is not about black and white, nor is it about DC. There are really some sad sacks out there who wait for the opportunity to belittle our children, our school system and anything pertaining to DC. I wonder what they might do if one of these folk who do not meet their standards have to make a 911 call for them, or perform cpr, if they'd feel the same way.

Y3Y3: It's pretty obvious that you haven't been too exposed to mankind, just your kind. Scary thought!

dc_girl - my suggestion would be to write a letter to the mayor about the deplorable conditions of your school. I would have as many students and faculty as possible sign the letter. Then I would mail a letter every week until something is done. And I might also copy my weekly letter to Fox 5 so that they might help with getting your school and others repaired. These letters might not make a difference but at least you will have tried...good luck!

dc_gurl...why not try calling attention to the dreadful mayor wanting you to learn by blogging on the non-racist fox5 site myvoicedc.com?

So, if everything is SO GREAT with the BLACK RUN schools in DC, why is she complaining?

You fell for the political promises of yet another lying batch of politicians. DC is famous for it. THE HISTORY IS THERE FOR YOU TO READ.

THIS is an example of what a nice school is in DC:

"when it rains at our school. The roof is leaking and parts of our ceiling was on the ground. We had no lights for three entire class periods and that is unacceptable. For lunch we were having cereal and thats not something that will maintain us for an entire day. We had no heat and all students walked around with coats all day. No electricity meant that class did not go as planned and teachers could not teach properly"

WHO IS RESPONSIBLE??? DC Government.
WHO ISN'T DOING ANYTHING to correct it? DC Government.

y3y3 - if you're not a part of the solution, the you're a part of the problem.

and looking at your profile (circa 1950s) you were probably part of the ignorance that Americans like Obama want to stomp out of our society today.
