A study released today by the Pew Research Center says that black people have grown less optimistic over the past five years. They think life in general is getting worse, not better. The majority of black people say racism is pervasive in everyday life. Ask white people and they say they don't think there is much racism these days. What do you think? Are you surprised by the findings in this study?

Dear Beth;
Do you ever take the time to read the blogs here? Evidently not! In the last month or so there has been a cessation of racial blogs and attacks. It has been quite nice lately. Now you come along with a blog like this? What are you thinking? Just what is your goal here?

Here's a solution if you are really genuine about your final question above. Go back about 20 or so pages and spend a little time reading comments right here on this site. News section!

Everyone here knows the answers to your questions. Now you can also.

Now I know that I probably won't get an honest straight up answer to this question. In fact, like a dozen times so far I will probably be given the run around as well as being called a racist just for asking it.However, here goes.
Black people,is it possible, just possible, that Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton and their ilk have drilled the idea that racism is still widespread and that anything that even questions blacks and their thinking is racist so deeply into your psych that blacks have developed a fear of failure type complex? In other words is it possible that blacks have been fed this tripe for so long that they're afraid to succeed because success might mean contradicting "the norm"?
Sorry black people but you are a victim of the oldest political ploy in the books. It's called endless repetition. It's a known fact that people will eventually come to believe anything you say if you just say it often enough.History has proven this over and over again as well as the fact that what you say doesn't even have to make sense.

as grandad said, we have discussed this topic so many times that it is tiring, old and boring. mountaineer's question has been discussed as well, with several differing opinions and responses provided.

next.......tired of talking about this.

the mountaineer is living in the shadows...should blacks also not believe that less than 50 years ago lynchings were perpetrated with impunity in the south and other parts of the US? Have they also been brainwashed to believe that any black public figure that so happens to be embroiled in a scandal suddenly becomes representative of the entire race by the media? While the race associated with scandals like Enron are never asked if this is representative of them? Is that brainwashing too?

Simply saying or aluding to something that you don't believe exists does not disqualify whether or not it exists in fact. Many black experience discrimination everyday in the workplace or at school. Just because some of you choose conveniently to ignore it does not mean that it doesn't exist or that blacks are too sensitive about it. The holocost DID actually happen...or do you think that was brainwashed too?

Excellent blog doublestandard2, Mountaineerfan is a prime example that racism still exists today. Going forward, I will ignore all of his/her post I would suggest you do the same.

Well as a WHITE person, I know there is still racism. But as a white person, I also don't believe it to be just aimed towards those with darker skin tone then myself either. Until each generation can teach their kids to be different then the one before, racism will and always will be around due to ignorance and unwillingness to change.

An after thought, the Fox5 news reporters must be getting bored because we are acting like civilized adults on the boards. Just as I thought, some of them get a kick out of it when we are going back and forth, this blog by Beth Parker is a prime example of that.

“double standard” you comment, reminding all about lynching 50 years ago …my knowledge of lynching was that it was epidemic in the 20’s-30’s …that would be 70-80 years ago ???

Was my last comment in response to madsMom deleted? It appears so.Like I said I have never gotten a straight up response from any black person on a racial issue.

Now as for you Newsbuggy would you care to explain how it is that you consider the asking of a question to be "racist"?

As for you doublestandard the question regards so called "racism" today.Let's see if you can give me an example of how YOU(or any black person) are being discriminated against just because they are black and NO OTHER REASON.I dare you to anser this.BTW,nice try at trying to redirect focus but switching from racism today to stuff that happened 50 years ago.Perhaps you would also like to give an example of a media article or story where the writer or reporter has said this black person is typical of their race".Go ahead and show me one.Like I said it's in your head.

Doublestandard,I really hope like hell that you are not black.First, you shouldn't use the term "black" but instead African American. How long have you been a racist like that?

Now as for the holocaust, you should be ashamed of yourself!Where the hell do you get off even using the holocaust as a comparison to the black situation?

Oh this is perfect.Doublestandard said "Just because some of you choose conveniently to ignore it does not mean that it doesn't exist or that blacks are too sensitive about it."

Ok,let's hold you to your own words by having you answer this other question I keep asking yet never get an answer to.How do you feel about the dozens of African tribes that thrived for a thousand years before white people ever stepped foot in Africa by selling their fellow Negros to the middle east? How do you feel about the fact that the whole slave trade is usually pinned on the white race, yet the mention of the black slave traders who did the rounding up and selling is always missing?Shouldn't these peole as well as the middle eastern people's have to pay restitutions?

I don't know the truth, but I see signs that worry me.

Resentment and baiting still occur in all races.

People are more PC in public than they were 50 years ago, but one hears terrible things when people think they are in a group that "understands" their prejudice.

Racism will never end. Prejudice will never end. As humans, we make progress one day and take terrible set-backs on another.

If we cannot believe that God made everyone, and that He doesn't make mistakes, then we cannot love each other and leave discrimination against anyone else of another group behind us.
And it can't just be lip service; it must come from our hearts. I don't know if humans can ever step up and become better.

mountaineer - i never saw a response to me on this blog, i did see one on another, and i did respond to you. as for your never getting a so called straight answer from anyone, i can only assume that you havent read all of the discussion of this topic on previous blogs. i dont have a reason to give any "shaded" or ambiguous answers so you either didnt or wont read with any understanding, thats on you, not me. once again, dont intend to discuss this any further, tired of the subject at this point, and we continually reach an impasse for several reasons, depending on who we are discussing the subject with.

Grandma - your response is quite appropriate. BTW, i havent had an opportunity to purchase Clarence Thomas' book yet, all of this house selling and moving stuff has taken up all of my time lately. we go to settlement next week, i have to be moved out by 11/30. im exhausted!!

...the abiding principle the divine creator expects of me, as I imagine it, is to treat others no less or more than I'm entitled to receive...in my youth, parental training I had could have been enormously off the mark but it was expected that I not lean on excuses and forget the whining ...look ahead, be ready to deal with challenges and keep your eye on the ball ...time's to precious to get bogged down dealing with slackers, losers, quick buck types or the like ...your example will help those who want to be helped, anyone else is a waste of time ...those who bear ill will to others will get their due sooner or later...if they drag you down the world's got one more loser ...I haven't yet found that counseling to be off the mark...

...it's not practical to build the whole story but I recall at about 7 yo an experience that's stuck with me all my life and created a respect in me for those of color and raised questions of why others had issues with race as it went to AA, Negroes, blacks or what ever term is the politically correct reference to use is ...

...a lady of color named Addie King gave me that experience and that memory of her has been a balancing against the racial behavior, unrest and attitudes of the past 40 yrs or so ...I still don't understand much about race attitudes today but Addie made it possible to see the side that counts ...at my age I'm sure she's passed on and very likely her life was a humble one that she none the less made the best of ...attitudes today could well have denied me a chance to have Addie’s example influence my life for the bette

(contd) better …her simple acts of attention and interest shaped my life for the better far greater than all the demonstrations, civil rights laws, affirmative action policies and political correctness …all the “beagle buddies” of the country should have had an Addie King in their lives and I’m convinced we’d far better off today than we are…

"Buggy" I'm not tryin' to learn anything here as much as understand from the perspective of a black person why little has seemed to have changed in black attitudes toward whites ...is it yet the slavery history??? ...is it that blacks view the worlds of whites as against them enjoying having opportunity come there way??? ...is it that there still hasn't been enough leglistative acts and laws created to fairly 'level the playing field' ??? ...that's all I interested in hearing!!!

At age 9 I decided I wanted to be a reporter and here I am. I've been at Fox5 for 8 years. Covering all kinds of news - investigations, features, you name it. I've had the privilege of meeting a lot of fascinating people. Many have been kind enough to share their stories with me. In the news business, every day is a new adventure!
