Once again the Veterans Administration has let down the people whom they are suppose to help. The government has become a place that has taken advantage of the ones who keep and have kept this part of the world safe. We hear everyday of the way this system has lets us down and as a veteran I am mad as hell!!!!!! This system has to change or we are going to end up with a military that we will not be to proud of. I had the pleasure of talking with Congressman Robert Wittmann's office this morning and found out that our Congress has no jurisdiction over the VA. So who does, is all the talking they do a dog and pony show, since they can't help us. Hearing the news this morning shows that the veterans are not high among the list of wrongs that need to be fixed. How can the government continue to ask our military to defend our country when you don't give us what we have earned or deserve? I have been fighting this system for 18 months and all you keep hearing is about the back-log of claims. What happens when our volunteers figure out that this system is not working, will the draft return? Through the whole campaign process the issue of Veterans care has not been touched. How is this possible, we have got to fit into this somehow. Everyday veterans are losing their homes, families and lives do to stress and strains of trying to get claims approved. This makes no sense, food, gas and the cost of living increase daily and the veterans can't afford to live. This government has no problems taking care of itself and the vet's should fall under the same system as the politicians. It is time for someone to take this serious and stop playing games with peoples lives. I have been out of work since October 2006 due service connected issues, and is ridiculous what I have had to go through. I have had to submit the same paperwork over and over again, which they said they still have not received it. You can't keep sending people out to do a job and not take care of them if they need your support or help. We gave our support to a government we believed in and now you are turning your back on us. This is going to eventually bite us where it hurts and the government we once served and honored is going to wonder why no one wants to serve. To all the politicians, this system is not working and you should see where our military is headed. Also why should veterans have to show a financial hardship in order to have claim expedited? This is a position no one wants to be in and should not have to face. I was not facing this type of hardship when I joined the Marine Corp and should not be put in that situation now. As a marine I was always told that putting yourself in a financial hardship is cause for disciplinary action!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is time for the politicians to put as much time into protecting the veterans as they do in their campaigns.

I know you are frustrated. Anytime you have to deal with a government office, you must remember one thing...Murphy's Law. Every time you complete a document, make at least 10 copies. When you send it through the mail, send it registered or certified mail so that someone has to sin for it. When you hand it to someone behind a desk, ask for their name, title, and the date..keep a copy...and write it down in a special notebook. Remember to smile even though you'd like to smack the dickens out of them. When someone tells you what you need to do, write it DOWN. People who document will get through the system better and quicker. Most of the people you will have to deal with know that they get paid the same whether they process zero paperwork or bust their keesters on 1,000 documents...so, you are going to have to be the brightest thing in their lives. NEVER let them see you get angry or YOUR forms will go to the bottom of the stack. However, if you are really nice, they may dig through the stack "just for you." I know it is frustrating...try to relax and take your time because if you don't THEY will. Good luck and hope all will go well.

lost..people make me crazy, too. When my son was in grade school he had a teacher that kept saying that he was not turning in his homework. Since my husband was checking his work each night to make sure he understood the subject at hand, he would check for proper headers...i.e. NAME, class, and date....so, when his grades were low and the teacher "justified" the low grade by saying he was NOT doing homework, we went out and bought a small copy machine. I made 10 copies of each homework assignment each night. When the report cards came out with the same statement, I took a complete stack of his homework and plopped the entire stack on the teacher's desk and said, "That dog won't hunt.. it NEVER did. Now, I have 9 more copies for the principal, the school board, our attorney, our congressman, the local newspapers...and anyone else who needs one. Now, you get off your adz and "fix" the lie you've told on my son's report card and no more will be said. However, anytime you see that he is REALLY not doing his homework, you call me and I'll bring you a copy." That was the end of the lying by the teacher. Another mother had the same problem with the same teacher and she took our advice. The teacher stopped doing that to her daughter as well. Just thought you'd like to see that doing something positive for yourself is such a good thing.
