Congress still chasing speculators.
Barack Obama still chasing a windfall profits tax.
John McCain still chasing windmills...In this case, a $300 million offer for whoever comes up with the best car battery.
And every politician of every stripe still chasing big rescues...Just today, a $300 billion dollar budget buster for housing.
All pushing points that make no point.
On a day oil makes more records.
And the folks who depend on it hit more lows.
In the case of UPS, five-year lows, just today.
Still just more of the same today.
No...to more drilling here, which would help.
No...to cutting oil subsidies, which don't help.
And no...to being more brutally frank with the Saudis, which could only help.
So right now, all I have to say "is" help.
On a day we're told that home prices fell another 15% from last year.
And gasoline prices are, in some places, double what they were last year.
No wonder Republicans are extra fidgety "this" year.
The electoral math looks daunting.
But surprisingly, not that daunting.
Surprisingly competitive.
Surprisingly tight.
Surprisingly, well, surprising.
