While I do not care for either of these guys I have to agree with Timmy here.

Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley is against drilling for oil off the state's coastline.

However, his neighbor to the south, Virginia Governor Timothy Kaine says he supports looking for oil and gas 50 miles off shore. Kaine says he would decide on pumping if oil or gas is found.

Both of Maryland's senators also say they are against drilling. Senator Ben Cardin says a spill from an offshore platform or pipeline could mar Assateague Island and the beaches at Ocean City, two popular tourist destinations. At the rate gas prices are rising now, there wont be ANY tourists able to drive to ANY Maryland "tourist destinations" anyway.  Don't you just love that "what if" menality. What if an asteroid hits us, what if tornadoes run amuck through the largest cities, what if all working American oil rigs broke down tomorrow? God forbid we try to plan a little bit ahead.

Because of the recently lifted executive ban on offshore oil drilling by  President Bush, energy experts say drilling is unlikely to start anytime soon.
Before drilling could begin, Congress would have to reopen long-closed parts of the Atlantic floor.

Yeah, lets keep on sending all of our oil money OUT of our country, until they run dry....THEN maybe consider drilling here, sounds like a wonderful idea to me..............NOT!

To hell with oil,to hell with windmills and especially to hell with corn.More nukes and hemp for methanol and other things. These are the two resources we have that have the most potential to be used on a mass basis.Their use could free up a lot of other resources for other things.Hemp fiber for fabric, pulp for alcohol and seed for cattle feed.Don't worry y'all it won't get your cows high and besides,it used to be the #1 crop in America anyways. Not marijuana but hemp.Huge biomass per acre.

an example of what's put us in the position we're in Starr ...a DEM controlled congress had the abilty to have steered us away from the financial chaos we saddled with four years ago ...and it looks as though they have no intention of avoiding REAL CHANGE...

Starrman1; The late great George Carlin did a whole comedy/social comment routine about what he called NIMBY (Not In My Back Yard). Of course, he was referring to adult homes for the mentally challenged and half-way houses for former drug users. The comment was that these were socially necessary facilities and should be constructed but NOT IN MY BACK YARD!

It appears that Gov. O'Malley is of the same ilk, we need oil but NIMBY!

It's time for this kind of mentality to come to an end, we are in an ENERGY WAR with the Arab States who are playing Japan, China and the U.S. off to get higher prices for their precious crude.

I concur with mountaineerfan that we should forsake crude oil for sources we control! In the end I want to see these Arab sheiks drink their oil when they cannot sell, or trade, it for grain and rice.

That is one thing I want to live long enough to see, Middle East oil wells rusting, or rotting, in the hot sun with zillions of gallons of oil still to be pumped and no market for the product. I want to see what goes around come around!

I think we should all pay attention to T. Boone Pickens' proposals. Wind and solar are free and renewable. The present state of the technology is such that they can be made practicle and - especially if oil/gas prices keep rising - affordable. Even if new sources of oil and natural gas are located and exploited, we don't have the refinery capacity. It's been decades since new refineries were constructed.Besides, foreign suppliers aren't the only culprits with their hands in our collective wallets; Not only would I like to break their stranglehold on our economy and lives, I'd sure like to escape from the clutches of the oil companies.

Wind and solar are part time sources. Nuke plants are needed ASAP. We switch the rail systems to pure electric locomotives, and as many coal plants as we can should have nuke plants to replace them. Hydro power is a good 2nd tier power generator too.

Perhaps if All those rich butt plugs like the Kennedys' et al who say "Not in MY back yard" are branded as the ones keeping you from that cheaper energy source LIKE THE WINDMILLS that the Kennedys etc stopped from being built, perhaps the BAD PRESS and higher taxes might just change those shallow liberals teeny minds???

there's no "policy" mappin' out this nation's energy needs and use of available energy resources or in what time frame we set goals for any type of technology development ...goals take you into the employment and use of new technology ...we have no policy with a program of goals!!!! ...so the continued talk keeps takin' us closer and closer to financial doom and social/cultural decline...

...if you think oil isn't a significant source of energy production for present day requirements and at the very least the near future, say the next 20-30 years, you're foolin' your self...

The refineries can be up and running and producing within a few months. it's call technology. we do have it. they don't want to use it or admit it. they ( the demo green people) want to be able to control. Come on people, wake the hell up. There is plenty out there and easily accessible, they just don't want you to have it. They would loose control.
About 97% of everything you use or own is made with some kind of petroleum product. Even these new "eco friendly cars" they make. We use it everyday. Things you would not even think of contains it. It is one of the things that we take for granite everyday. But until the media quits hypin up the Obama and Democratic circus this is the way it's going to be. It is the biggest charade of a presidential election in history. I have never seen so many nut jobs in control in one political city at one time in my life. It is shameful.

If it's going to result in more domestic gasoline production, they can drill on the BEACH, or even in my backyard as long as I get my cut and not have to think twice about topping off the tank in my Hummer.

Fully agree SuperRight! Although I do not have a Hummer, I do have a van that is necessary to accommodate me and the wheelchair. And that $90 to $130 plus dollars to fill that 35 gallon tank is killing me.

I look at this way...I don't buy all that environmental garbage. And even if I an wrong (which I doubt), I could care less if the planet is is some sort of environmental turmoil 30 years from now. I will likely be dead or close to it. I don't live my life to take care of other people. They call that communism. I live my life for me, so give me what I want now. I work hard and I deserve it!

We desperately need to build a few more refineries and begin drilling here in the USA and offshore while we work on those other "cleaner" forms of energy.

The construction of refineries and nuclear power plants would create hundreds of jobs which would help boost our economy.

I can't believe that our gov't can't see this...so why do they wear blinders? We have got to drastically cut our dependence on foreign oil, and we've got to stop giving them our money...we need it to pay off the debt to China and Japan :(

We need to start building Explosion proof silos for poop. Thats right! Our number one source of energy. Just install one out in the backyard of the local Raw Sewage Plant in every locality. You can run anything off that gas. Methane Gas is free energy. Problem solved...

AccordingtoGeorge, sounds like a LOT of c-rap to me!

LOL!!

Seriously methane is an excellent source of almost "free" energy, and I am certain, just like in the movie 'Thunderdome', it will be utilized.

Made it to 66 this year, and that was a feat in itself, if you know me. Still waiting to hear ANY action plan for removing illegal aliens from America, and everyone seems to be blowing smoke.
