Here's something you probably don't need to be told... 9 out of 10 people say gas prices are a hardship.  Two thirds now say gas prices are an extremely important issue.  They're cutting back on expenses, driving less and turning down the heat or AC.  The poll from the Associated Press and Yahoo also shows-- it's ruining our vacations!  About 40-percent now say they're spending less on their vacations because of high gas prices.

Those who are taking vacations are cutting costs by packing their own food-- no fast food stops (probably better for our waistlines anyway), mapping the lowest gas prices on their trips, having a barbeque instead of going out to eat, crashing with relatives instead of a paying for a hotel, or shorter vacations because you don't have the extra money to stay any longer.

These oil companies are turning into funburglers.  Gas costs so much it's robbing people of a small luxury.  We all need a vacation sometime and now many can't afford one.  That's a shame.

I myself am sticking close to home this year.  We've taken trips to visit family-- a free swimming pool at Granpa's for the kids-- is cheaper than a beach vacation.  Grandma is a short drive away from the Jersey Shore so no need to rent a beach house.  I'm off for the  4th of July but staying home.  Why not enjoy fireworks on the Mall for free.

Are your vacations suffering-- either because the gas prices have eaten up everything you already make or because the cost of driving some places is too astromical to make it reasonable?  If you are vacationing are you doing things differently to save money?

At these gas prices-- it's no vacation!

This took its toll on my family last year. We cut back on everything, not that we splurged or spoiled our selves. We are going to try for a Beach trip at the end of the summer. Sticking around the homestead, joined the local pool and fishing in the close by pond. Grass-Roots Summer like the good old days.

Sorry to agree with you on this one Starr, but it does look like it is only going to get worse.

MCGRUNT, although I do not do a lot of "vacation" travelling, I did enjoy my few trips back and forth to the Atlantic for fishing. Those trips will be missed.
Like you, and a LOT of others I am sure, I am sticking closer to home and in the process of finishing and adding new tools, to my workshop.

BTW, don't tell the wife about the new tools, LOL!

Well...Sherry...be careful at the fireworks... remember what happened in Vienna, Va. a couple of years ago. Be safe and have a nice 4th.

Hey, Starrman...Shhhhh. We won't tell anybody. You know, I think all husbands are tool thieves.. my husband takes every single screwdriver, pliers, measuring tape...you name it. I started dipping my tools in pink paint...darned if his tool box didn't suddenly sport pink tools. So..I went to pink tools with FLOWERS...and, so far, these haven't disappeared to the manly toolbox. If you take your wife's tools we WILL tell on you.

AveMaria22, my wife "borrows" a tool, then forgets where it came from. I know and understand well NOW, why my Dad used to get so upset years ago. He would say, "Use all the tools you want, BUT, put them back where you got them."
Nothing worse than reaching for a tool you know was there just yesterday, and lo and behold, not there today.

Starrman1,I only wish I knew where my husband kept his tools. He's got three tool boxes none of which seem to have the right tool I'm looking for. We have about 4 hammers but I can never find it when needed. Likewise on screwdrivers. He claims to have a system but I haven't figured it out.

Sherri_ly, Yeah, it's definitely a "guy" thing. Afew years ago I got upset and bought 5 brand new claw hammers, 1 for her shed, 1 for my shed, 1 for the workshop, 1 for the "kitchen tool drawer", and 1 for the small toolbox in the family room. And right now I cannot find ANY of them. I can't get mad at her though, because she puts up with me 24/7. LOL!
