A Frederick County Commissioner wants to count the number of illegal immigrants in public schools and withold some money from the school board budget if it doesn't comply.  Supporters say illegal immigrants are a drain on the schools and they need to get a handle on the costs.

What do you think about this?  The Supreme Court ruled schools must provide an education to anyone who resides in the US and they are forbidden from asking about immigration status.  It seems to me, if this proposal passed, the school boards' hands are tied.  It's illegal to ask students and yet if they don't they lose money.

I don't know if putting schools in the middle of the immigration battle is the right thing.  This is a matter between the local and federal government to hash out.  The NAACP also worries kids could get profiled.  Consider this too: If the school board loses money it's not only the illegal immigrant students who pay-- everyone does.  Schools don't have enough money as it is...

Then again those who oppose illegal immigration say schools would have more money if they didn't have to spend so much on illegal immigrants.

It's a difficult issue and one the answers are not always so black and white.  What do you think?  Is targeting school children the right thing to do?

Why is it difficult to stop giving money to people that break the law every day?

Would you give more money to a person that just robbed your bank; would you give more money to a person that just broke into your house?

From what I understand, they are just trying to figure out how much of our money is going to educate the child of an illegal alien. They only want to withhold funds if the school refuses to provide this information. Is that an unreasonable thing? Of course not. As a taxpayer in Loudoun County who is asked to pay more property taxes every year to build more schools, hire more teachers and fund ESL classes, that is something I have been wanting to know myself, something I deserve to know. But instead, I am to shut my mouth and open my wallet so as not to make things too difficult for the children of the lawbreaking illegal aliens.

All they have to do is change the law from Anyone who resides in the US to any one who LEGALLY resides.
I love how everyone makes things so difficult nowadays!
If there are children in the schools who shouldn't even be in the country, WHY should they be allowed to attend? They shouldn't.
If this country made it a little bit harder for illegals to blend in MAYBE JUST MAYBE they wouldn't be coming here in truck loads!

Hey Smoove...when it comes to wasting tax money by giving it away to illegals we will probably always be on the same page.

You right about that bro!!! A certain amount of residence in a county brings in a certain amount of revenue for that county. If the need for services FAR EXCEEDS the funding then someone is taking more than their fair share!!!

You ALL know where I stand, (sit) on this subject!! Screw those criminal illegal aliens.

Sam_in_DC said it all, "I am to shut my mouth and open my wallet so as not to make things too difficult for the children of the lawbreaking illegal aliens."

This is exactly what those bleeding heart, illegal loving liberals want us all to do, STFU and keep forcing the taxpayers to keep shelling out, so we don't upset the illegals. U-F-B!!!

When this country comes to its knees, and its happening already, then our government might realize, we can't keep giving illegals a free ride. With the ever rising cost of gas and cost of living now, skyrocketing, just how much more are we the LEGAL people of this country expected to put up with when it comes to paying the way of those who are here illegally? I am all for better education, but I want my money spent on those who are here LEGALLY. We have millions of schools in this country, DC is a good example that are left to just run down, where are the funds for these schools? If we can't take care of schools that aren't harboring and educating illegals, then we do we want to see those schools that are receive that money? I really think the government needs to repeal the "born here you are a citizen" clause and make it "born to AMERICAN CITIZENS, you are then AMERICAN CITIZENS."

I think all of you are racial mother BLEEPers and I am a US citizen. Americans will support addictions that cause cancer by purchasing cigarettes from cigarette companies and will not BLEEP complain where there money is spent...but yet when the opportunity comes to racially discriminate people, and at that young kids, for BLEEP attending public schools to get a better education..they are the first to cry like bitches and point fingers and ask "where is my money being spent" you are all full of BLEEP! Whether you like it or not illegal or not, we all pay taxes. Only because you are legally in the US does not mean you are the only people paying taxes. Keep it up, eventually because of your lack of treating humans like god would want you to, with a giving hand. That same hand is going to be shoved up your ass and slap you on the face for discriminating your own kind. We are human beings first, before color or legal status.

I am a black american and I think illegal immigration is unfair. It is also ruining this country. I ,also, don't follow the NAACP and their views. They haven't been significant since the 70s. The only group that has benefit from illegal immigration is Mexicans and those Latinos who have come up through the Mexican borders. Other groups deserve the same fair chance. It is ,however, nearly impossible to come here illegally when you are separated by the Atlantic ocean. It is also difficult doing it legally . When Mexicans do it illegally ,they are not only cheating ,they are ultimately denying other immigrants who too would like to become American citizens. The illegal system that we have encourage over the years have , in its very nature , proven to be more costly than implementing a fair legal solution. The opportunity to become an American citizen should not be monopolized by one group of people. Nearly 80% of the illegal immigrant today are primarily coming from Mexico and their souther border! That's unfair and illegal.

Sherri ...it slays me you subtly make your way into a sympatric position for the ILLEGALS issue …it’s done at the expense of creditability accorded to those of us who are citizens expressin’ our enragement over the whole dam thing ...

…not undocumented persons, illegal aliens, illegal immigrants, ...they're selfish, disrespectful, law breakin' ILLEGALS!!!! ...how bout we exercise takin’ some action that’s “creative” but legal, exposing ILLEGALS ...they can ready their kids and get their selfish, law breakin' butts out of here and the education system can focus on providing benefits created for citizens and those who have a legal status in this nation...

…when the media adopts a determination to cast the issue in a negative light then I think we’ll have made a constructive step dealing with a minority position whose agenda embraces advocating the open borders ideology BLEEP, encouraging ILLEGALS to pour into our communities and cause resources to be diverted away from providing the full strength of benefits intended to serve citizens …

…what about a journalistic endeavor to investigate the network of supporters who encourage these hoards of ILLEGALS???? …how about questioning why these “supporter” people choose to throw their resources into supporting ILLEGALS getting established throughout this nation instead of, say, donating those resources to supplement the educational experience of those who are citizens and already here in our communities???

First, Humankind2008, Illegal Immigrant is not a race. Those Illegal Aliens and their supporters who don’t have any intelligent argument tend to try to use the race card and name calling to make an argument. Yes, I point my finger and say “where is my money being spent”, that is my right as a citizen and something that any responsible person would want to know.

We are talking about the children of illegal aliens in our schools not cigarettes and cancer, two real issues that are in no way connected here.

Illegals pay taxes too…Most illegal aliens work under the table and do not get tax deductions. Those who do pay deductions are working on fraudulent/stolen social security numbers (which opens a whole new ball of wax for Americans) or lied to get a tax ID number. Even so, their meager income is not enough to pay for the public cost, medical expenses and the public services given to all their children. The counties fund schools through property tax collected from homeowners. Most illegals are not homeowners. Oh, I know, they pay rent and taxes are paid by the homeowner through the rent. But first off, they have more children than most Americans; they live multiple families to a home so the county is collecting tax from a single family home to cover multiple families within that home. Plus there are extra costs to the school for the extra space, ESL classes, multilingual teachers, correspondence in multiple languages for parents who do not speak English, etc. These are just some of the facts that you choose to ignore but my space is limited here so I’ll lea

(continued) so I’ll leave it at that.

The topic of this blog is the fact that they want to figure out how many students come from illegal alien homes and figure the costs. If my points are all wrong and the facts show that your simple minded “they pay taxes too” point wins then why worry? Let them do a head count, punch the figures and in the end you and your illegal alien friends will be vindicated.

A cruel solution is to break into any house that houses ilegals, and spread the house contents all over the neighborhood. WHO would they complain to??

in too many communities, the cops, Y3 and get satisfaction ...lets not forget the two border patrol officers who intercepted an ILLEGAL smuggling a 700 lb marijuana load …he attempted to escape, the agents shoot him in the a=ss and look who the government found fault …they buddy buddyed up with the ILLEGAL making him a witness then helped him return to his homeland just to show up again...he’s caught and this time around the government decides he’s lost whatever character quality they saw in him and are not holding him in custody…as you may know the border patrol officers are in solitary for their protection after one was savagely beaten and the government is still balkin’ to act on their fight for release …haven’t noticed any sanctuary providers, open borders advocates or the like railing over the officers treatment ….

A couple of thoughts on these threads. One thing I think that's missing is that the Supreme Court ruled it's illegal to ask students about their immigration status. So what is the school system to do? They have no legal way of collecting this information. Witholding money from the school system for failing to do something it's forbidden from doing in the first place just seems wrong. Although the proposal only calls for witholding the money it would take for a study, that's still money that goes to all students. Not just illegal immigrants. So your kids suffer too from the loss of funding.

Should something be done about illegal immigration? I don't disagree. I just think there's a better way than attacking schools which have no choice by law but to educate all children regardless of immigration status.

By the way. I keep seeing everyone talk about the hispanic immigrants. About half of all illegal immigrants to this country overstay their visas and many of those are European and Asian. Not all illegal immigrants are Hispanic.
