History in the Making...

On this last day of the presidential primaries, the associated press, FOX News and a number of other news organizations have all declared Barack Obama the presumptive, Democratic nominee for President.

This is an historic day! It's the first time in our nation's history that a Black person has won the presidential nomination of any party.  (I know Senator Obama still needs the official votes of delegates at the National convention to be declared the official nominee.)

As a teenager, I never imagined a black person, nor a woman becoming President of the United States. Today, as a grown woman, I am proud that our county has come this far. I'm proud that we could have a woman or a black person running for the next President of the United States.

For me, it's a great example to my three sons. It lets them know that someone who lookes like them, can become the President of the United States of America. It lets them know that they too can become President of the United States. I don't have daughters, but if I did, Hillary Clinton's success would also serve as an example that women can become President of the United States too.

I'm curious, what does this historic day mean to you?

This historic day?
I feel the only reason he is in the position he is in right now IS because he is a black man.
He certainly has no experience or any type of leadership skills.
I have yet to hear a straight up answer from him on any issue!
The man thinks the COKE theme would be a better National Anthem for Christ sake!
He won't wear a flag symbol because it's a sign of oppression?
He won't put his hand to his heart during the pledge of allegiance because it symbolizes a country of war?
A historic day indeed.
A sad one.

I forgot to add in my original post.. that Barack Obama will accept his party's nomination on August 28, 2008...

exactly 45-years to the day... after Dr. Martin Luther king Junior delivered his I have a dream speech on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial.

We're one step closer to Dr. King's dream

Is the same day 1963, on the Capitol Mall, with a crowd of

Perhaps the USofA will become one big welfare country ... Perhaps the Blacks will be expecting a real big hand out if their 'boy' were to become the Prez.... what a joke ... It will be a sad day indeed ...

If he does become the Pres. we will all have to watch over our shoulders anything we say will be construed as racist. Now you know how sensitive black folk are when they are referenced.... but its okay to slam every other culture and get away with it ... somehow in their twisted minds they find a way to justify it .... Darn is that a watermelon vine on the North Lawn and what is that smoke out the Kitchen door? Geez .. smells like stale Kentucky Fried Chicken ....

Didn't you mean the first interracial candidate?? As I become older and try to learn more about the strange world I live in,it astonishes me how blacks are quick to point out "the first black" when in many cases that person usually has just as much "white" in them than they have "black". The true realization here is that after 400 years of a black people in this country, suffering and climbing their way up to the top, the one that got the highest consideration was man who was the son of some one who was not born here(the saying is black americans argent as other blacks form Africa ,and the Caribbeans) and a white lady. !!!A white lady of European genetics and culture. But her son is now being revere as black. How is this? Obama ia a heck different from the traditional black american( most of their mothers are black)and did not live Indonesia. You mean to get to the highest office in nation a black guy must have a white mother ,father has to come from another country and he had to have live in Indonesia. To me, life is too short and there is not enough time to figure this one out. But this a good example of the irony in you celebration. As a an american (black) I find it astonishing...

Bottom line:
Obama is the child of a NON-American Muslim, born to a Atheist white woman who raised her interracial child out of the country in the muslim ways.

Historic!

Historic day? Voted for by every liberal guilt ridden"AH" who thinks they must be a racist, and want to prove otherwise, and voted for by every black racist, and every young "C" student.

Obama has no record of accomplishments, so you have to see who his friends are. Terrorists, Muslim extremists, Calypso Louie, Chicago mobsters, Union(mafia) types, and racists preachers. Very sad. His horrid judgement in choosing his friends, and his vacant mind otherwise makes him a danger. He HATES whites, Jews, conservatives, but supports Hammas, and farrakhans nutcases. The Democrats are trying to use a subliminal race card to get you to vote for 0bama. I think I'll KEEP using the ZERO instead of a capital "O" to spell his name.

Can anyone find even a SINGLE SENTENCE in his speech yesterday that gave ANY SPECIFICS on any subject?

everybody's doin' terrific at contributin' counter views Shawn ...I'll add that it’s a shame when the voter stock is so superficial and shallow on values that Obama can eclipse the class and example of a black politician like Michael Steele (Maryland‘s former Lt. Governor and Congressional office seeker)...that's the quality of a political candidate I choose to rally to ...

...Obama doesn't get my congrads for foistin' on the American public the historically longest candidate bid our nation has ever known ...there are more reasons than a single one why this has happened ...Liberals both extremists and fringe left committed themselves to launch a presidential bid that if successful would insure that they could compliment a Congressional majority and begin in earnest to tear this nation apart and rebuild to their likeness…Christopher Dodd Jr, of the Dems and a rabid, frothin’ at the mouth Lib, told us about four years ago I believe it was and it went much like this: politics is a battle for political domination and anything goes even if the rules are bent to accomplish it, dirty mouthin’ and all…

…this is what confronts American voters in deciding how we will ALL live and I believe the caution that needs to be examined is whether we’re gonna let radical ideological philosophy and the looniest collection of special interests I’ve yet seen or known of carry the day….

Historical??

I would categorize it more like Hysterical.

RED-DOG1 sums up Obamaman completely.
"Obama is the child of a NON-American Muslim, born to a Atheist white woman who raised her interracial child out of the country in the muslim ways."

We are on the the "Highway to Hell", and going at full throttle.

Hey lets look at it this way. If a black man is elected to the most prestigious office in the land, at least the black people won't be able to still cry that the WHITE man is holding them back. Perhaps Obama will set the example of where you can go in this country if you WORK WORK WORK! But on the other hand, I'm sure there will still be some that will call him "Uncle Tom" because their lazy asses feel left behind.

luvmybroom said Osama is raising his toasting his friend Obama.

If I'm not mistaking, it's BUSH that has dealings with the bin Laden family? Correct. It's nice to see the conservative ignorant fear tactic is still inplace that helped re-elected Bush back into the White House in 04.

Fear and ignorance that you all are displaying is what fueled ignorance for centuries.

Now...what this means to me and people throughout the world is that American is not the racist, arrogant, and ignorant place that it set itself up to be. Thank you Mr. Bush! Obama shows that there is opportunity for anyone that applies themselves to acheive what they want. No one ever gave this man a chance to (at least) last a long time in the primaries. Winning the primary? OMG!

Gooberpug...I agree...it will show young black men that you can achieve whatever you want. But let me let you in on a little secret. Are you listening? Good. There is still an economical divide in this country that will allow some people to acheive some things that others can't. I figured I would tell you that.

Y3Y3...don't mistake my typos with my intellegence. Just like a concervative. Concentrating on "how" things are said vs. the content of what's being said.

I'll make a deal with you right now Y3Y3. You tell me what McCain is doing different than refurbishing the same old Bush BS. Than I will break down (just for you) Obama's proposed agenda.

Smooov, words mean something. YOU are not using the language even close to correctly. How does one tell what you mean? The content of YOUR posts is nonexistent. It seem you only impress yourself.

Shawn, you are taking me back to the 60's and earlier.

Wow - why is it that we have to have people in various roles to say to our kid(s) "see, you can do it"? To me, we should be preaching to our kids that the sky is the limit.

I could care less who is the President (man or woman) - I just want them to be able to come in and do the job!!! Nothing else matters.

Obama/Hillary ticket in 2008!
