President Bush has some of the lowest approval ratings of his presidency, but congress' numbers are even worse.

When Republicans controlled congress, it seemed like nothing really got done. Demoracts campaigned on the promise, they'd be different. Now that we have a Democratic congress, it still seems like nothing is getting done.

So, what's the real issue? Are we too divided politically to ever get congress to do what the people want?

I feel like politics is mostly double talk.  I am not looking forward to the barrage of compaign ads in 2008.

Ugh!

And this would surprise you how? Nothing ever gets done because they can't get past their party affiliations to get anything done. They all need fired. To bad we can't just tell them all to pack their bags when Bush leaves and put all a whole new crop of liars in.

Sometimes I think that no two-term President will maintain popularity with the American people. We just get tired of our leaders, no matter what they've done. It just seems to be the American way.

As long as we keep voting for under employed lawyers who otherwise would starve as our senators, and car salesmen, shoe store owners and soccer moms as our congressfolk instead of intelligent statesmen we will get what we deserve. The medias shallow reporting, and the resulting outcry is why the qualified don't want the job.

I agree with Goober. The two parties are only interested in keeping power, nothing else. The games they play are sooooo obvious. Look at Maryland and the slots issue. 4 years ago a Republican governor wanted slots, the Democrats in the legislature opposed it and the REpublicans supported it. Now a Democratic governor wants slots, the Demos support it and the Repos oppose it.

They play political games and waste our tax money.

...Congress has become a highly sought after feed trough for politicos and those that join the faternity don't have a strong interest to be too noble and risk losin' their slot in "wonder land"!!!

There's another reason. No one but an egotistical idiot would run for office in America. Why? Because none of us is a saint, and the instant anyone announces his candidacy, his background including all the skeletons in his closet, become fair game. His children, his Mom, his second cousin appear on TV and in the tabloids immediately, especially if any are goofy.

Remember Gary Condit? He didn't kill Chandra Levy, even if she was his side interest. He was ruined as a politician. He also had the last laugh, because the yellow journalists have been paying through the nose after he sued or threatened to sue them.

"Ma" ...no evidence to this day exists makin' him the murder but his troubles arose over his lying, false and misleading investigative responses and stone wallin' ...that layered over his standing record of foolishness and indiscressions influenced voters enough was enough!!! ...that's the recollection I have of Conduit's woes...

Still got to agree with Grandma to a point. Why would anyone really want to put themselves through all that, were it not for some hyper-ego. Can't be the money. It's got to be the spotlight.

You’ve pegged most of what it is …and added view is conduit and those like 'em ain't got the ability to take up a real challenge ...politics is to easy a mark to pass on as it goes for those who recognize the difference between work of demanding effort and labor that’s under rewarded against the political arena where talents of suck up and a=ss kizzin' come easy and natural...oh they call that the art of negotiation, skill to deceive and too often the privilege of being brought to accountability!!! …now when a new face comes on the scene in politics with ambitions, what great faith is “hairy homeowner” to expect of ‘em ???

If the question is about the work performed by Congress, I ask;
What work? Just what have they passed in the last year? Seems like their focus is on slamming the President every chance they get. Is that their job these days? If so, I guess they are ,indeed, doing a great job! The world sees all out dirty laundry! Just ask Susan!
