I'm sitting at my desk preparing for the 10pm news... and also watching the Olympic opening ceremony right now.  I'm blow away! The detail, the precision and the artistry is amazing.

I don't usuallty get caught up in these kinds of things... but  whoever put this together deserves a gold medal!

Laura Evans says this is better than Greece. I think it's better than Sydney too!

Love to hear what you think!

I first noticed it during the last school year... after my teenage son asked me to read an English paper. It was littered with (made up) text abbreviations. Instead of the word some, he wrote the word sum. UGH! And he didn't realize it!

It's not just teens, it's adults too! Our new wave of fast impersonal communication is ruining how we write and how we communicate with other humans.

Instead of talking face to face, teens and adults have taken to TEXTING! That means no feeling, no emotion, no need to pay for excessive cell minutes, but a must for unlimited text messages.

Just my thoughts? What do you think?

TTYL...

Shawn

It's a simple question that no doubt has many different answers!

What's your excuse?

Father's Day is Sunday. Unfortunately, I won't be able to spend time with my dad becasue he lives in Indiana. But, I'll make sure I call him.

I will spend time with my husband and our kids here!  My kids have a few 'special' things planned that I won't reveal in this blog, so it won't blow the surprise.

What are you giving your dad!

We tell our kids the best gifts are from the heart and don't cost a thing! We encourage our kids to use thier own creativity and come up with poems, paintings or whatever they think will make thier dad smile. Of course, the best gift is spending time with dad and letting him know how much you love and appreciate him!

Here's to all the dads out there... Happy Father's Day!

History in the Making...

On this last day of the presidential primaries, the associated press, FOX News and a number of other news organizations have all declared Barack Obama the presumptive, Democratic nominee for President.

This is an historic day! It's the first time in our nation's history that a Black person has won the presidential nomination of any party.  (I know Senator Obama still needs the official votes of delegates at the National convention to be declared the official nominee.)

As a teenager, I never imagined a black person, nor a woman becoming President of the United States. Today, as a grown woman, I am proud that our county has come this far. I'm proud that we could have a woman or a black person running for the next President of the United States.

For me, it's a great example to my three sons. It lets them know that someone who lookes like them, can become the President of the United States of America. It lets them know that they too can become President of the United States. I don't have daughters, but if I did, Hillary Clinton's success would also serve as an example that women can become President of the United States too.

I'm curious, what does this historic day mean to you?

Since when did it become funny to joke about a presidential candidate being assinated?

First Mike Huckabee's comments to the NRA, that Obama was ducking for cover from bullets.

Then Senator, Hillary Clinton's justification for staying in the race until June... becasue that's when Robert Kennedy was assinated (implying something similar could happen to Obama).

The latest comment comes from TV News Analyst, Liz Trotta. She went so far as to act like she was confusing OSAMA and OBAMA. She said "...some are reading as a suggestion that somebody knock off Osama, uh Obama. Well, both, if we could."

WHAT?!?!

Like Huckabee and Clinton, she also offered her apolpgy saying she didn't mean to harm anyone. Too late, the damamge is done.

What in the world is going on? I know during election years, people can be nasty, and vindictive, but I would think people like Huckabee, Clinton and Trotta (former Washington Times editor) would have more sense then to make such senseless remarks.

I'm curious to know what you think?

Is this "just politics"?

Is it a race issue?

Or is it just an issue of really stupid comments?

Now that America has crowned David Cook, the new American Idol, what did you think of season 7.

Do you really think this year's singers were the best group of talent ever?

What about the show's themes? Did you enjoy the Beattles and Neil Diamond night?

How about Fantasia and Mariah Carey's performances?

I enjoyed the change... allowing the talent to showcase more than just their voices. It was nice to see them play the piana and the guitar.

I didn't like that fact that Jason Castro stayed on the show as long as he did! He didn't even seem to care one way or the other.

What do you think producers should do next year to make the show even better?

Facebook, Myspace and other online social networking sites have become popular ways to keep in touch with old friends and meet new ones. They have also become popular places for anonymous predators and unsuspecting victims.

Today a grand jury indicted a Missouri mother (Lori Drew) for her alleged role in a MySpace Hoax that lead a 13-year old girl to commit suicide.

Police say she helped created a 'fake' profile and pretended to be a 16-year old boy... and started chatting with 13-year old Megan Meier.

Drew is the mother of one of Meier's former friends. She's accused of creating the profile to find out what Meier was saying about her daughter behind her back.

Investigators say Megan hanged herself after receiving several cruel messages from the so-called, teen boy... including one telling her the world would be better off without her.

The Missouri mom (Lori Drew)... denies she was involved. Now it will be up to a jury to decide!

This is just one of the many cases of people misusing social networking sites to abuse others. As a parent of a teenager who has multiple social networking accounts, I've also joined. My goal isn't to police him, but to make sure I stay on top of the latest technology and to make sure no one's trying to take advantage of him. (To my surprise, he friended me!)

How many of you know who your kids are talking to online... or more importantly, who's talking to them?

I love this time of year!  Not because of the snow, but because of the hoilday cheer and the spirit of giving that seems to take over between Thanksgiving and New Year's Day!

When I woke up and saw the snow... I thought "how beautiful". Now that it' been here for a few hours, I'm ready for it to melt.  People in our region don't seem to function (drive) well in this weather. I'm always surprised when schools close over a few inches of snow. I grew up in the midwest, we didn't close school unles there was a blizzard on the way.

So for all of you who don't like to or don't know how to drive in this mess... I hope this is all the snow we get this season. ( I know it's unlikely, but I can hope)

It's been a while since my last blog.

I've been caught up in the coverage of Sean Taylor's death and farewell.  It was heartbreaking to watch his sister and his babygirl at today's funeral... knowing that they'll never see him smile back at them again.

It's sad that Redskins fans will never get to see him crush another apponent on the field.

It's sad that his family will never get to see him grow old.

But we can all find comfort in knowing that Sean is in a much better place!

I know hundreds of you have logged on to share your thoughts, memories and wishes for his family... keep them coming.

As the Thanksgiving Holiday approaches, many people are reminded of the reasons they're thankful.  What tops your list?

I'm thankful for my husband and my 3-sons. I'm thankful that God wakes me up and carries me through each day.

When I look outside, I'm thankful for the beautiful leaves falling from the trees. I'm thankful for the sunshine and the days when the temperatures stay above 60 degrees. (i'm thankful for the other days too. I just like warmer weather better).  I'm thankful for beaches, mountains, oceans and flowers. I'm thankful for the time that I have to spend with my family and friends!

I am thankful to live in such a wonderful city with a rich history surrounded by a diverse group of people.

What are you thankful for? Please feel free to share your thoughts with us!

President Bush has some of the lowest approval ratings of his presidency, but congress' numbers are even worse.

When Republicans controlled congress, it seemed like nothing really got done. Demoracts campaigned on the promise, they'd be different. Now that we have a Democratic congress, it still seems like nothing is getting done.

So, what's the real issue? Are we too divided politically to ever get congress to do what the people want?

I feel like politics is mostly double talk.  I am not looking forward to the barrage of compaign ads in 2008.

Ugh!

It's funny to hear people talking about "getting Bill Clinton back in the white house".  I guess they believe that voting for Hillary is really a vote for Bill.  It's probably one of the key reasons Hillary is ahead in the polls.

Do you really think if Hillary Clinton becomes the next president of the U.S. she'll let Bill pull the strings?

Just curious, is your vote for Hillary really for Bill?
