There are two sides to every story....and it's my job as a reporter to try and get them both...

Tonight...I followed a story we first reported last week.

Allegations from former members that a branch of Alcoholics Anonymous (The Midtown group) is run like a cult.

We haven't been able to get anyone from Midtown to talk.....So I tracked down a meeting tonight....

Left the camera behind....identified myself as a reporter....and asked someone from the group to respond to the accusations.

I was told they couldn't...citing AA's tradition of not speaking publicly about group issues.

It's very frustrating for me as a reporter.....I'd love to hear from viewers

Roz....

you should have gone in there undercover.. and not say who you were.. most good reporters do.. like Chris Hansen.. he goes undercover and gets the bad guy.. did you think they would open up to you..aa is just what it stands for anonymous ..no body wants any body to know they are there.. you went in there big deal with out a camera wow.. then got up and said i am a reporter..just send someone in there who no one knows and get your story..go get the story or send someone who can..actually this is the dumbest thing i have heard today.. going to AA and saying i am a reporter,, like they would answer your questions ,, then get upset they didn't..college is sure handing out degrees to any one who pays

I disagree partially with your criticism of Roz. It is understandable that members of an organization dedicated to privacy would be non-responsive to questions from a reporter. However, Roz took the high road of integrity and honestly folled up on the story. As a journalist myself, I appreciate hearing about integrity in reporting for a change.

As far as the story is concerned, addictive behavior is something that many of us do not fully understand. some addicts (and yes, alcoholism is an addiction) are harder to treat than others. some conventional treatment methods do not work. Some hard core methods seem extreme but the most important thing here is to save a person's life.

Roz, keep reporting!!!

I believe in honest journalism but sometimes you have to go in discretely to get the facts.

I live across the road from a MNCCP Recreation Center, that has AA meetings on Friday nights. In the winter months it is not to bad, but as soon as it is warm enought to ride their motorcycles, and none of them are those little crotch rockets, we are talking about big loud Harleys.and there are a good 15 to 25 on a good night, After the meetings are over all he-- breaks loose! They fire up their motors and race up and down the road at speeds that are so fast, you can't gat a tag number. And no, the county police don't ever seem to be available to stop by and check them out at end of the meeting time.

ok you know how many Chris Hansen caught.. the bad guy,, child molesters..geraldo,, well not geraldo.."honest journalism"that's not honest.. she was looking for a story knowing she was going to a place called alcoholics anonymous key word there..then don't be surprised if you come out without a story...

BTW, I love motorcycles, but this is totally out of control, the county will probably intervene when there is a big accident, and someone is killed.

Roz, kudos on taking the high road, but I believe it will get you just about nowhere on this one. These folks are on high alert and have been for months. Some local AAs have known for at least four months the Newsweek article was coming. This situation is unusual in that the folks speaking out actually did go to the press. The has been brewing for years.
