Nessiemonster's Blog

I find it interesting that both bloggers who wrote posts about the browns and their dislike of the rules at SMCA have chosen to not allow anyone to respond to their blogs. What's the problem? Afraid of a little debate?

My child does not go to SMCA, and I understand the need for rules. My problem stems from many of the "rules" that so-called Christian schools have. I don't know anything about SMCA and I am not saying they don't have good intentions, but I think a lot of private schools go overboard with rules. Honestly, it's hair! It grows, it gets cut, colors go away. If the WORST thing my child ever does is want a weird haircut or to dye her hair pink, I will consider myself blessed! As a born-again believer in Christ, I believe it is our job as parents to prepare our children for the REAL world, which is not in the majority, Christian. I think many Christian parents over protect their children and then when they are turned loose into the world, they are incredibly UNPREPARED.

With young children, I believe the boundaries must be tight, but as a child grows they must be allowed to make their own decisions and their own mistakes. Then they have to clean up after those mistakes. It build character. Even if it's just pink hair.

I guess I'm not surprised at Paris Hilton's early release, but that doesn't change the outrage I feel! A RASH! ARE YOU KIDDING! THAT'S the big medical emergency that gave her a get out of jail free card? She's probably allergic to not having designer clothes!

Oh, but she has to stay at her home! She's not released! Give me a break! She is back at her 2700 sq. ft. Beverly Hills mansion, with all of her servants, her pool...basically she just has to shop online and have house parties instead of going out...I'm crying, really, can't you see my tears!

I guess being born into super richdom, without a brain in your head and sensitive skin gets you ANYTHING you want!

For once, I'm actually with Al Sharpton, and if I had the money to waste, I would be standing outside her mansion protesting with him! Of course, she will probably think he's there in support of her. That is, if she even knows WHO he is!

There has been a song on the radio for quite some time and has even been sung on "American Idol" recently called "Waiting for the World to Change" by Jon Mayer(sp?). This song's message really bugs me. Here is a sample of the lyrics.

Me and all my friends, we're all misunderstood.

They say we stand for nothing and there's no way we ever could.

We see everything that's going wrong with the world and those who lead it,

We feel that we don't have he means to rise up and defeat it.

 Chorus:

So we keep waiting, waiting for the world to change.
We keep waiting, waiting for the world to change.
One day our generation is going to rule the population,
Til then we'll keep waiting, waiting for the world to change.

It's not that we don't care, we just know that the fight ain't fair. etc., etc.

The song continues in this same whiney, "poor me, I'm such a victim" kind of mindset.

My question to my fellow bloggers is this... am I the ONLY person annoyed by this song(which has become quite the anthem for our youth) which just seems to perpetuate an apathetic, "just going to wait around and see what happens" attitude?

I am only in my thirties, but I grew up being taught that if you wanted things to change, you had to change them. In my opinion, the ONLY way things change is if the "little" people band together and change things. In fact, isn't that how this country came to be free from english rule? The colonists certainly didn't sit back waiting for the King to decide to give the colonies to the colonists. They FOUGHT for what they desired. It was HARD WORK and people died, but they got what they wanted.

Anyway, I am babbling on and on, so I will stop and hope for some intelligent banter to come along;)

So here it goes. We are in the middle of A.I. - season 6 and the rules are the same.

NO OLDER THAN 29.

So, who decided that when you turn 30 you know longer have talent or are worth a record deal. Taylor Hicks may have been 28 when he auditioned, but he certainly didn't win on looking young! Besides the fact that most people who sing, do not come into their prime until they are OVER 30!

HERE'S MY PLAN - We all saw the sweet elderly gentleman who had people sign a petition that would allow him to audition. His voice was OK, but it was more his story that got him on.

I would like to start my own petition.

Here's my story:

I want to audition to represent all of the over 30 crowd who have talent and have been working hard at their craft, but has been left out of everything. 30-something's have been forgotten about! Especially, women!( I honestly think they are scared of us)

I am 33(34 in March) and have been singing  for as long as I can remember. Professionally since I was 18. I have done a couple of recording projects(nothing big) and did the coffee house circuit for quite a few years. 5 years ago I stopped traveling and had a baby. Since then I have been a stay-at-home Mom and wife. I still sing quite often at church and weddings. This past summer I was scheduled to sing at the Franklin Graham festival at Oriole Park at Camden Yards, but due to the change of schedule and Billy Graham's last minute appearance, I was unable to do so(though I am not complaining, it was amazing).

I believe Simon, Paula and Randy need to give me a chance. Yes, I am 33(and proud of it!), but I look younger than Taylor and I have just as much energy!

My musical styles tend toward Jazz standards and Big Band, as well as Celtic and folk. These are my preferences, but I have done just about everything(except Rap. You DON'T want to hear that).

If you would like to get behind me, let me know. Us 30-and-over's need to stick together!

I just heard that Texas has mad it mandatory for PRETEEN girls to get the vaccine against the Human Papilloma Virus(HPV). This goes WAY beyond the scope of government interference in parental rights and the children we as parents are responsible for.

I am not a proponent of mandatory vaccines at all, but even so, HPV is not a disease you get by being sneezed on! It can only be contracted through sexual contact! To mandate a preteen girl to undergo a medical procedure that is this controversial and goes against so many religious beliefs is completely incomprehensible! Why aren't we teaching our children responsibility instead of giving them a false sense of security!

I can just see some horny teenage boy now using this as a lure to some low self-esteem girl. "It's okay baby, you've been vaccinated, you can't catch anything". This is something that needs to be each family's personal decision. What's next? Mandatory birth control for teenage girls? When will the promotion of the unhealthy(emotionally, spiritually, and in some cases physically)lifestyle of CHILDREN having sex end?

I plan on fighting tooth and nail to not allow it in my state(MD) and instead, actually teaching my daughter to respect and love herself enough to not give in to the mentality of "everybody's doing it".

I think Hillary is showing her true colors. Her comment had nothing to do with specific men, but all men. Hillary Clinton is a man hater. She not only hates men, but any women who has a different opinion than hers. Don't get me wrong, I think it's high time we had a woman in the oval office. Just not this woman!

As a woman who has CHOSEN to stay at home and raise my own children, instead of letting someone else do it, I am continually offended by her remarks that stay-at-home moms are wasting thier intelligence and time. Considering the fact that my kid is way ahead of the game academically and emotionally compared to children whose mom's aren't home with them, I think I've chosen the right path. When she is grown, there is still plenty of time for me to have a career if I CHOOSE to, but right now I've chosen my career as a parent. If my child(ren) grows up to be a successful citizen with a strong moral compass, then that's worth all the pension plans anyone could offer.

Hillary Clinton does NOT speak for the majority of women in this country. Most of the women I know(democrat or republican) believe that we should be respected and supported in whatever CHOICE we make in our career paths. Hillary doesn't get that.

I believe hazing is a ridiculous and completely unnecessary ritual that needs to been banned. What does it have to do with being a part of a fraternity or sorority? Especially one that is a "so-called" social action based fraternity. If they wanted to "haze" someone for that kind of fraternity, why not give them so many hours of community service? That would prove a dedication to what the fraternity is about, not getting beat up by a couple of thugs. I for one am glad to see that these guys got a stiff penalty. Outside of the "frat house" that's not hazing, it's assault and they deserve what they've been given.
