I am very much against the gun ban in Washington, DC.  I am a native Washingtonian and have lived here all my life, with the execption of my time in the military and college. The argument that lifing the gun ban would put more guns on the street is rediculous. As far as what I know and from what I have read, criminals and those wishing bad intentions do not have any problems when they wish to acquire a firearm.  I want a gun in my house to protect me from those who would break-in, kick open my front door, to take what I have worked hard for. I had years of experience handling all kinds of weapons while in the military. I will re-take safety courses. I go to the range with my son. Must I too acquire a firearm illegally?  I am hoping, deeply, that the Supreme Court overturns the gun ban. Those wishing ill will on DC residents in their households might think twice about breaking into someone's home, someone's castle, someone's private sanctuary.

Good for you Mykul! In nearly every case where gun bans are enacted crime almost always goes up.On the other hand when they are non-existant or previous ones are lifted crime rates are much lower or tend to drop.FBI Uniform Crime Reports as well as many others show this to be true.

It's nice to know that people are coming to their senses. The question of gun ownership is a matter of logic. If guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns. Some people may say that the criminals will not be able to get them because they will not be made for civilian use anymore if they are legalized. However, drugs are illegal, but criminals still obtain them easily.

bornindc12, amen!
The people that think that, "Some people may say that the criminals will not be able to get them," are the same fools that still believe in Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, etal.

I am a lifelong, native Washingtonian a 74 graduate of Woodrow Wilson. I am proud having been a DC resident all my life. I take honor in having served my country in the US Navy as an Operations Specialist (retired due to disabling injury), at one point for five months sitting off the coast of Iran while the hostages were being held, waiting for rescue operation to start. I am a certified scuba diver, the pic is of me scuba diving in Belize I have made trips to many countries, while in the Navy and since I was retired, all over the caribbean, and many countries in Central and South America (I am fluent in Spanish). When I bought my house, I looked specifically at SE Washington, having spent some childhood years on Douglas Rd, walking along Nicols Avenue. At that time many white Jewish families lived in Anacostia and I used to cut grass and trim hedges on the weekends to make money. I remember the first black history museum that opened in the old theater, and even though the exhibits didn't change much, we'd go every weekend. I remember when John Kennedy was assasinated, he had just come to my school the year before. I remember the riots when Martin was killed, and I feared for my grandmother who was very light skinned, that she would be mistaken for white. She had to walk home from downtown to 8th and Kennedy street NW and I was so releived when I saw her. I remember her love and it sustains me, even to this day, God Bless her soul!
