In a Washington Post editorial, a call for support of the initiative to give full congressional representation to the District of Columbia, there is an indication that this president "who appeared unfamiliar with the issue when he was asked about it at his news conference..." can only be called an all too usual twist of the truth. One of Mr. Bush's first acts when he took over the White House, was to have the tags with "No Taxation Without Representation" on them removed from all White House vehicles. Did he order the removal without knowing what it meant? I doubt it, but it is a consistent vein in this administration of "aw-shucks, I didn't know that" ignorance on issues regarding the political, social economic, and health issues of the U.S. Cheney didn't know that AIDS affects so many women of color, Rumsfield is famous for poo-pooing his way out of serious answers to serious questions and the entire administration refuses to admit that something is seriously wrong with our policy in Iraq.

Don't forget that Eleanor Holmes Norton didn't know she was suppose to pay taxes until she wanted to run for office.

Not true, like so many other "women of the house" in the years that she had tax problems, she allowed her husband to complete all the tax returns and then "present" them to her only for her signature, not for her to view. It was not uncommon for this type arrangement in many, many households and it still takes place today.

Are we speaking of a woman that is smart enough to be a lawyer as well as a law professor at Georgetown University? Is that the same woman that is not smart enough to read the tax returns?

I am a lifelong, native Washingtonian a 74 graduate of Woodrow Wilson. I am proud having been a DC resident all my life. I take honor in having served my country in the US Navy as an Operations Specialist (retired due to disabling injury), at one point for five months sitting off the coast of Iran while the hostages were being held, waiting for rescue operation to start. I am a certified scuba diver, the pic is of me scuba diving in Belize I have made trips to many countries, while in the Navy and since I was retired, all over the caribbean, and many countries in Central and South America (I am fluent in Spanish). When I bought my house, I looked specifically at SE Washington, having spent some childhood years on Douglas Rd, walking along Nicols Avenue. At that time many white Jewish families lived in Anacostia and I used to cut grass and trim hedges on the weekends to make money. I remember the first black history museum that opened in the old theater, and even though the exhibits didn't change much, we'd go every weekend. I remember when John Kennedy was assasinated, he had just come to my school the year before. I remember the riots when Martin was killed, and I feared for my grandmother who was very light skinned, that she would be mistaken for white. She had to walk home from downtown to 8th and Kennedy street NW and I was so releived when I saw her. I remember her love and it sustains me, even to this day, God Bless her soul!
