guncam Since last fall, police in New York’s Orange County have been using experimental gun-mounted camera technology that begins recording the moment a police officer’s gun is pulled from its holster.

The technology was adopted after a public outcry surrounding the 2006 shooting of a Newbugrh, New York man in which, “the street version of the story differs massively from the one told by the cops,” according to The Register.

Washington, DC NBC News affiliate WRC is now reporting that a bill has been put in front of the DC Council that “would require police service revolvers to have miniature cameras to record how the weapons are used” in order to “provide a clear record for both police and citizens on how police weapons are used.”

The system that’s currently in place in New York is just being tested and isn’t widely deployed yet. The DC bill would likely call for a more widespread adoption, though.

Mountaineerfan, I think if this lunacy is passed, then the perps need to have cameras on their guns too. I mean, what is good for the goose is good for the gander, is it not?

Oh brother...just when you think you've heard it all!

I think if DC were to reinstate the death penalty it might bring down the skyrocketing crime rate.

This would clear a lot of police officers.

Sorry Starrman,I know we usually connect on most issues but this one I gotta disagree with you.As bad as the crooks are there is one thing they don't do and that is call themselves "authority".With authority come the potential for abuse of that authority.

Given the runaway levels of police corruption and crimes these days I think this is a great idea. After all, speaking of the goose and the gander,if they're not doing anything wrong then they don't have anything to worry about, right?

Imagine this in the Middle East. Wouldn't that be interesting? North Korea and in South America? Then part of the wireless network. Problem is it would take away interest in all those video games. TV and reality games, wow!! This could hurt the toy industry. It would bring families together and save gasoline.

It would help to clear officers and avoid frivolous lawsuits.
IF DC would enforce the Death Penalty, perhaps it would decrease the crime rate.
Hell, they should bring back public executions! Let the scumbags see what will happen to them when they get caught!

Honest1inVA...NEWSFLASH:

Not all the crime in DC is commited by people that actually live in DC. A large precentage of people that commit crime in DC live in either VA or MD. More from MD though. So please...if you want to start to execute the "scumbags" in "DC", start by looking in your own backyard.

O.K. Smooov,I'll call your bluff. What percentage would that be and where did the info come from?Funny that when I hear about arrests for crimes in D.C. the perp is usually from D.C.
