I'm wondering if any of you either heard on the news or read the article where the manufacturers of Aquafina and Dasani water identified the source of their water. Their water is sourced from public reseroirs, i.e. TAP WATER. I admit that I'm one of those who buys and drinks bottled water on a regular basis and as a matter of fact buy Dasani the majority of the time. To me, what I liked about it was it's freash, clean, crisp taste. And now I'm finding out that all the time I've been drinking tap water.  Brands such as Evian, which is spring water, are shipped from locations with notably "clean water" (as per an article I read).

So, what is the take home message here?..Have those of us who have been buying and drinking  Aquafina & Dasani been duped??. Do we switch to "spring water"? Or do we just drink tap water?..I know that growing up, we always drank tap water. My mother would fill up a jug and place it in the refrigerator. And from what I remember, it was quite tasty and would really quench my thirst on a really hot day.So, if these companies are only purifying tap water, then maybe I should just invest in a water purifier and purify my own tap water. What say you???

That's what we do at our house. We bought water filters at each sink we drink from. It's been great! FYI don't forget to filter the water which goes to your icemaker in the frig.

Most big companies run their water through huge filters. Not just the two mentioned above. Just flag down a driver and ask him what he sees before they load up his truck.

LMAO @ at all those I've heard say "I ONLY drink Dasani!"

WELL, lol, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure this one out.

I surely cannot be the only person who has seen the water taste tests on tv, lol, wherein people are asked to taste some unmarked cups of water and indicate which they think is best. One cup has tap water, the rest contain different brands of bottled water.
Every time, it seems, people pick the cup that has.......TAP WATER as the one which tastes the best.
It's also said that bottled water doesn't contain the adequate amount of floride to keep teeth healthy, as tap water does, which is one of the causes of the rise in tooth decay in children- drinking bottled water.

I think it really depends on where you live. I lived in a community that had well water for several years and I bought bottled water for my kids and us to drink because no one liked the taste of the well water or the associated issues that come with it. If I lived in DC I would probably still buy bottled water knowing that it is tap water because it has to be a better quality that the water coming from the faucets in the district.

allmine, glad to see/read you are back.

Even though I have city water now, just like Grandad1, ALL of our drinking and icemaker water is filtered. I think it just tastes better .
The first 20 plus years I lived here I had a well, the water was was so acidic that I was ALWAYS replacing copper pipes. Although the water did not really taste that bad. I ended up filtering and using an acid water neutralizer system, at the holding tank before the water went into the pipes. What a PAIN that was!

I found this "revelation" amusing. This isn't really anything new or earth-shattering -- Consumer Reports (among others) did a study on bottled water safety back in 2003, and mention that Aquafina and Dasani use "municipal supplies."

Is anyone actually surprised by this? It is just like people who only drink Remy and talk about how it tastes better than other liquors when you are actually serving them "Old Rot Gut." Folks, we need to wake up and look at the water.

I was watching John Stossel on ABC the other day and Aquafina water is from the Detroit river ....

I never bought bottled water as a primary water source. I have water filters and drink off the tap.

This is a good reason to have a good taste of Heiny instead!

I have water filters too, because the tap water here tastes nasty.

I buy bottled water ONLY if I have to go on a trip where my belonging will be searched, like at the National Mall. Otherwise, I carry my filtered tap water in a reusable container.

I grew up in PA and we were surrounded by Springs, there are several locations where it runs through a pipe right out of the side of the mountain, spring water is all we ever drank. One of my daily chores was to grab the jugs and go get 4 gallons of spring water. Now that I live here, I buy my water because I simply can't stand the taste of tap water. I have heard people who were used to tap water say that they can't tell the difference but when you grow up on spring water you certainly can. There is no way I would choose tap water in a taste test if it was drawn in any of the areas that I have ever lived or visited. Although I have seen reports on the news of some areas having very good drinking water, Northern Virginia and DC are not on that list.
