The declination of ( rock ) music as we know it , is evident when we , as a nation, vote for talent from TV shows like American Idol, Nashville Stars, and the like. Generations of music past were not determined purely by looks, but TALENT, the real kind, not just some thrown together junk we have today. Bands or singers spent long, hard hours practicing on their performance, not just showing up at an audition ( loose term ) on TV, in front of judges, and in most cases, screeching out a song that the person has no vocal range for. Sure, we had rock bands that had lead singers screetch, but more could actually carry a note. Nowadays, a mixing board makes complete songs, without a singer, But rock, and I mean TRUE rock, had guitars, bass, and drums. In ten years from now, your voted AI "flavors of the month" will all but disappear, and probably never get voted in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, where the real music lives.

Most totally awesome male rock vocalist ever: Geoff Tate of Queenryche.A vocal range like no-one else.See the ABBA post below for my thoughts on females.
One of rock and roll's biggest losses was when Johnny Lang became a wuss and then sold his azz to Nickelodeon. What a waste! That was one o rock's best chances to carry on the Stevie Ray style of heavy blues guitar oriented rock.
If you wanna hear a band that not only jams well but actually knows the meaning of the words "guitar solo" then the best bet right now that I know of is....are you ready?.....The Donnas. No foolin'.
Three Doors Down,Nickleback,Seven Mary Three and other such bands are some of my modern faves. They ain't like they used to be but there are new(er) bands with talent you just have to keep your ears open and give them a chance.

Can't disagree with your logic there. How about Freddie Mercury of Queen? I have been listening to the new stuff you mentioned above, and actually like most of it. It might sound strange, but I like Marilyn Manson, Korn, and some of the "attitude" rock. Whatcha think, Mountaineerfan? I never would have guessed a girl band for the "guitar solo".

Yes Mike freddy had an awesome voice, too. The worst thing about Queen was that they got plastered all over the radio all of the time.I'd like Bohemian Rhapsody a hell of a lot more if I hadn't heard it fifty million tims already.Same goes for a lot of old classics.
Now as for his lifestyle well that was his business.Over the years i've come to expect at least a little weirdness of some sort from just about every musician.I've learned to separate the songs from the people and to just take evrything one song at a time.I've even tried to do that with rap but I just can't get into it.Closest thing to rap for me is Kid Rock and Rob Zombie.MC Hammer and a few others over the years haven't been bad but there's just never been enough there for me to become a big fan of the genre.Nothin' personal to no-one but it just ain't me.

I have to admit that I've never heard anything from Manson.Korn is pretty o.k. although I have heard a tune or two by them that just sounded kinda "noisy".
As for the term "attitude rock" I gotta say that's a new one on me.Who else would you say falls under that heading?
While I'd bet that I probably wouldn't like Manson it's o.k. if others do.I didn't have much room to talk when I was young.I was Ozzie when Ozzie wasn't cool.I have been a fan of his since about `78 or `79.It was when I finally got myself a radio good enough to pick up D.C. 101 way out here in the valley area.First really hard rock song I ever heard was Iron Man by Sabbath.Been hooked ever since.Beatles?Beatles who?
Remember what I said about some songs by some groups getting was too much airplay?Sabbath is a perfect example.I once sat down and made a list of my top 20 fave Sabbath tunes and only one was on the "We Sold Our Soul for Rock and Roll" album.
As for the girls in rock thing I'm gonna do a special post on my fave women in rock.Since Mausergirl has covered many of the points i had planned to cover in a special post on assault weapons I feel as if some of the pressure is off to complete that.I think it can wait a bit.

My definition of "attitude rock" is a jam that tends to buck authority, with more of a pounding beat. I was Ozzy before MTV. Lita Ford is a good example of women rockers. Since there aren't a lot of girl bands now, the list will probably get whittled down quite a bit. All of our rock heroes are senior citizens. (sob) Forgot to ask, Greg Allman, did a song called "I'm No Angel", whatcha think about it. I also like 38 Special.

Oh!You mean grung rock?
Lita is one but I can name about 300 plus bands with women as the front and probably around 200 or so all girl bands throughout rock history.I have to admit that many I know nothing about but I just know of them.Women in bands is becoming a very popular trend even in "women fear to tread" territory like Goth and Death Metal.
"I'm No Angel" is pretty cool.Greg and his boys are another bunch that I can take or leave.I like `em pretty well and all but just not enough to call myself a big fan.I probably like 38 Special just a bit more though.
