There are so many great restaurants in the DC area... sometimes you may not know where to begin. We found a website where you can ask any question about dining in the DC/Baltimore area... and other users will get back to you with answers or recommendations asap. Check it out on this week's My5!

As Paul says I 'love' food (I really do enjoy learning about and sampling different wine and cuisine... but you get the point either way I suppose ha!)... so if you have any recommendations or questions for that matter, shoot them my way!

First off, what kind of restaurant recommendations do you want? Fine dining restaurants, mom-and-pop neighborhood restaurants, store-front carry outs?

oh all of the above. i'm always excited to hear about new spots to check out! i can tell you as far as fine dining one of my favorites is Obelisk near dupont. But it can be hard to get reservations and the the small menu changes regularly. As for more casual spots, I love 2Amys on Wisconsin Ave for pizza, and Jaleo is always a fav. because I can't get enough of that white sangria!
I don't know too many mom and pop restaurants... have a good one?

Seriously? I won't go out to eat in DC. To high of a chance of geting mugged, beaten, raped or worse in this city.

Please!!!! I must take humbrage to that statement. Do you have statistics to back that up? I really dislike when people make assumptions about DC and do not support them. You are no more likely to be raped, robbed or mugged in Downtown, K Street or Connecticut Ave corridors than anywhere else in the area. This is the same myth that has been spread whenever there is a mass shooting at a high school in suburbia or rural America and some parent comes on and says, "I thought this only happened at inner city schools," although it has never happened at an inner city school.

With that said, McCormick and Shmicks, Georgia Brown's, Legal Seafood, Mr. K's, Tony Chang's, any "real" Ledo's (not the franchises), is that enough?

Kelly - So do I and have lived here for the last 58 years. I know that there are some areas where it is very bad (all cities have them) but that is not normally where the good eateries are anyway. I am just saying that DC gets a bad rap and other areas in Alexandria, Arlington, PG and Montgomery counties (just speaking locally) are as bad if not worse. I am very well aware of the ills of the city and do not seek to downplay them. Let's just not say that DC is soooooo bad.

Tom - I agree with you. All cities have good/bad areas. I personally haven't had any bad experiences going out to eat in DC, nor have any of my friends that I have heard about. Also, I agree with Lauren, Obelisk is one of the best. In Potomac, MD there is a small Italian restaurant Amici Miei off Seven Locks Road. Great food, excellent service. Zaytinias is a great small plate restaurant.

I think LadyEgret summed it up pretty well. Though it is true, you need to be aware of your surroundings in any big city. As for the food, I have yet to try Zaytinya, but it's on my list. Another good small plate restaurant is Mezze in Adams Morgan. It's Mid-Eastern/Mediterranean. This past weekend I went to La Tasca in Chinatown, the food was great but sorry, Jaleo's sangria blows their stuff out of the water!
Also, you bring up service... it really does have a big impact. If the staff isn't hospitable it can definitely ruin your night. And if you're dining out in this area you're likely paying pretty well for it, so that can be disappointing.
