Really!! There is a website where you can search any song and create and save playlists for free. The library seems pretty extensive but if they dont' have what you're looking for you can even put in a request for it. It reminds me of itunes... but you don't actually download the music... so while it doesn't take up space on your computer, you can't put the music on a portable mp3 player.
For a link to the site check out this week's My5

There are so many great restaurants in the DC area... sometimes you may not know where to begin. We found a website where you can ask any question about dining in the DC/Baltimore area... and other users will get back to you with answers or recommendations asap. Check it out on this week's My5!

As Paul says I 'love' food (I really do enjoy learning about and sampling different wine and cuisine... but you get the point either way I suppose ha!)... so if you have any recommendations or questions for that matter, shoot them my way!

We have a great 5 this week!
BUT sigh... I embarrassed myself. Not once, but twice ;)
First, we talk about this great site where you can search items on ebay that the poster spelled wrong. Since they're spelled wrong they have hardly any bids so you can get a pretty good deal on some stuff. Here's where my dear friend Paul decided to pop quiz me on spelling. YES I am a writer for a living... and YES I spelled a word I see EVERY DAY wrong. (and didn't even realize it until after we taped our segment!)
Second, well I knew this one going in, but it was pretty funny so I decided to share it with all of you. We had a special guest star this week-- Steve Buscemi. He is one of my favorite actors so I was really excited... and let's just say apparently I turned into the queen of corny while interviewing him. I showed Paul the tape horrified at myself but after watching him crack up I figured I may as well own up and give everyone a laugh. By the way... Steve Buscemi is SUCH a nice guy. Totally down to earth, and didn't mind at all that I hijacked him after his interview with our anchor Steve Chenevey. Also a big plus in my eyes... he used to be a firefighter in NYC and I think still volunteers at times. Shout out to my family because it's full of New York firefighters and after growing up in Staten Island I've always had a ton of respect for the FDNY!! Buscemi's movie 'Interview' hits theaters this weekend.

I think I'm spelling that correctly...

Anyone remember zany golf?  When I was younger we had that game on our computer.  I'm talking big floppy disk, oregon trail days.  Anyway Paul had no idea what I was talking about so maybe it was just a Staten Island thing (that's where I grew up).  But... my point is the game on this week's MY5 reminds me of it.  Fun and easy to play.    It's just one of five good web sites... Check it out!

Lauren Nelson (Miss America 2007) stopped into our studios by accident! She was slated for an interview on Fox News Channel but there was a mix up so we ended up feeding the interview to them live.  I actually met her when she was here a few months ago and I know she is very sweet.  While she was here I grabbed the opportunity to quickly ask her about her favorite web sites... you can check it out on this week's MY5.

and here's something extra... Lauren told me that she is constantly on the go.  She travels about 20,000 miles a month by plane!

To see MY5... you can look for the link under the 'entertainment' tab at the top of this page-- or just copy and past this link:

Just a reminder that restaurant week began Jan. 8th in the District. It runs through the 14th. Restaurants offer a 3-course fixed-price lunch special for $20.07... and 3-course fixed-price dinner special for $30.07
It's a great opportunity to experience some of the area's best restaurants on a budget. If you haven't made reservations yet, there is still some time...
Just keep an open mind. The most popular restaurants are most likely booked, but there are 170 locations on the list. Also, it will be easier to get reservations for a party of two than for a large group. And, as far as dinner, if you're flexible with time that helps. Try for early.. 5:30 or 6... or 8:30 and later.

To book a table, copy and paste this link:

Good Luck!!!
Let me know how it goes!
And I want to hear about your dining experiences... love it? hate it? was it the food or atmosphere? Any recommendations for next time??
Happy Restaurant Week ;)

Our last "What's Cooking" segment featured a chef at one of my
favorite Georgetown spots, and an event to help combat hunger right
here in our area.
The chef was Tim Elliott from 'Mie N Yu.' It's right on M Street,
east of Wisconsin Ave. If you haven't been there, check it out! But
this is definitely a place for the trendy/adventurous. Interesting
ambiance, good food, and a creative (but kind of pricey) drink menu.

Now Elliott is one of the ten chefs who will battle it out at this
year's Capital Food Fight. It sounds kind of like the Food Network's
'Iron Chef.' The chefs compete with surprise ingredients, while
guests watch and sample dishes from 40 area restaurants. Tickets are
$125, and benefit DC Central Kitchen. This year, it's November 15th.
I plan to go, with some Fox 5 coworkers! If you're interested, you
can buy tickets, or donate online.

Imagine... there is only one Italian Restaurant in your entire country.
Are you thinking Sbarro? If you lived in India you would be. (How weird is that?!)
A group of brothers started an Italian Deli in New York 50 years ago, and now they have more than a thousand stores world wide. This week the Executive Chef of Sbarro joined us on What's Cooking. Joe Borruso has worked for the company for more than 30 years... back when they had only a handful of locations. He's so into pizza, he showed us cell phone pictures of an enormous brick oven he built in his backyard.
During the segment, Borruso taught our anchors to spin pizza dough. Hilarious! If you missed it and would like to see how it's done, check out the segment clip under this web site's "fox morning" tab and look for the What's Cooking Archive.(or see link below) A word of warning... definitely messy. (I guess that's why when this guy is home, he does it in his backyard.)
Ok, so you see Sbarro everywhere... shopping malls, train stations... everywhere. What's the secret? Big surprise here--- quality ingredients. Borruso says don't skimp. The better the ingredients, the better the final product. Other than that, he says the hotter the oven the better. Apparently his outdoor baby gets so hot it cooks a personal pie in two minutes flat.
So this What's Cooking got me thinking about pizza toppings. So hard to pick a favorite... there's white pizza with baby clams (not exactly the most popular but I love it)... zucchini, mushrooms, olives...
Another producer here... Dan Brown just brought up bbq chicken... mmmm.
But ok, if I had to pick one, I go with meatballs!

A very unique "What's Cooking" this week... the chef came all the way from Iceland, and brought a "brand new" dairy food. Well, new to the US anyway.
Skyr is apparently very popular his country. It has a similar taste and texture to yogurt, but is actually a type of cheese.
It's pronounced SKEER, and Chef Siggy Hall made "skyr-amisu." That's Tiramisu with skyr as a substitute for marscarpone. Not bad actually, and the good news is this cheese product has a bunch of protein, but no fat.
So why all the hype? Well this stuff is a staple in Iceland. The Vikings brought it into the country more than a thousand years ago... and now it's found it's way down the Atlantic to a little place we call Whole Foods. The company began introducing skyr in stores this month.
So, the Lauren DeMarco take:
At first it tastes pretty sour. If you've ever had Greek Yogurt (also available at Whole Foods) it has that same kick. Now, I went to Whole Foods to see if it was available and found it in the dairy section. There were two flavors... vanilla and blueberry. I've tried both, and it's definitely growing on me. I think adding some chopped fruit or berries would make an excellent breakfast. The only thing is, it's not cheap... about $2 for a 6oz container... AND while there's no fat, there's plenty of sugar. If you're interested, try Non-Fat Greek yogurt as a comparison. (much less sugar) In any case, "Skyr-amisu" or any tasty snack that's fat free, is a winner with me.
Now, on a side note- I went to the Whole Foods on River Road in Bethesda. They had just re-done the salad bar and guess what's found a home next to the cottage cheese... skyr and strawberries!
If this stuff catches on-- you heard it here first :)
