Whether you agree with her politics or not, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has quite and incredible story... and she sat down with me to share her story.

Nancy Pelosi, a local girl from Maryland,  went from the kitchen to Congress in the most untraditional of ways.  She recalls spending most of the 1960's pregnant.  She had 5 kids in 6 years.  She was a stay at home mom...  a housewife.... and proud of it.   It wasn't until she was 46 years old that she was first elected to Congress.   She'd never considered running for office.  20 years later, she would make history as the first female Speaker in the nation's history... 3rd in line for the Presidency.

Pelosi cares deeply about underserved, poor children... that, she says, is what drives her.  The Speaker has several legislative wins under her belt in recent weeks, many of them a result of that drive.... many of them family focused.  However, the American public is not happy with Congress... the majority of those surveyed saying Congress is on the wrong track.

Monday 8/11, on Fox 5 News at 10, I invite you to watch my interview with the Speaker.  You'll hear what led to her run for Congress  and how she responds to those historically low Congressional approval ratings.  Plus...  her take on the Obama/McCain race for the White House.

Please join us Monday for Fox 5 News at 10.  We will also post the entire interview on myfoxdc.com.

"The Speaker has several legislative wins under her belt in recent weeks, many of them a result of that drive.... many of them family focused."

Laura you don't have a clue do you? When Nancy was voting in California to allow strangers to transport minors across state lines to have abortions without the consent of the parents was THAT family focused too?How about when she marched in SF's gay parade a couple of years ago right beside NAMBLA?Was THAT family focused?

Laura why don't you ask Pelosi why it is that she is so quick to defend a woman's right to choose wether or not to kill a baby yet when it comes a woman's right to defend her own life the right to choose suddenly doesn't matter.Ask her why it is that she seems to think that a woman being rendered defensless and then being raped and murdered in a dark alley is morally superior to a woman using a handgun in her own defense.Did you ask her that?I didn't think so.

Laura the next time you get the chance to interview this liberal communist skank why don't you try doing something that other reporters don't seem to have the balls to do and ask her some real questions. For instance ask her why it is that she keeps trying to make it illegal for grassroots organization to even converse about political issues while allowing others like law firms and labor unions(her biggest contributors) to do and say whatever they want, all done under the guise of "lobbying reform".http://tinyurl.com/2gv9e8

While you're at all that you can ask her too why she is a member of the Progressive Caucus or,as they're better known, the Democratic Socialists of America which is the American arm of a pro-communism group called Socialist International.
On top pf all that why don't you ask her why it is that she championed so hard to establish Mexican I.D. cards(used by many illegal Mexicans)as appropriate and valid I.D. to replace a valid U.S. I.D. for gaining access to fedeal buildings and for voting.

8/10 at 11? Looking forward to it. If I miss it, hope it will all be textually printed somewhere. Well, even if I don't miss it, come to think of it.
For some reason, I feel more free speechwise since she became the House leader. Probably because I realize she's mixed it up East and West USA. Makes a huge difference. Worked for me. Especially the metro DC area.

Mrs. Pelosi's history is an interesting one, Laura. Her father, Thomas D'Alesandro, was the mayor of Baltimore and a former US Congressman. He was a close political friend of the Kennedy family. Mrs. Pelosi was educated in private Catholic schools as a youngster. She also attended college at Trinity University in DC, which was a VERY exclusive private woman's college.

She was surrounded by politics her entire life. So promoting her as the "typical American housewife turned Congress woman", would be like promoting Kathleen Kennedy Townsend or Hilary Clinton as the same thing.

By the way, I'm not attempting to discredit or demean Mrs. Pelosi's accomplishment. However, I don't think it's journalistically ethical to promote her in a way that isn't backed by the historical record.

caffeinated-cow, please feel free to demean her. She is a self serving opportunist that was born with the proverbial silver spoon in her, uh, lets say mouth.
If BS were gasoline, half of California could run their cars for a year off of the BS that Pelosi spews out.
Your last paragraph in your first comment above says it all.

I guess you have figured it out by now, I do NOT care for her at all!!

No, Starr, I won't demean her. Mrs. Pelosi has accomplished something many women politicians have not---to become Speaker of the House of Representatives in a relatively short time.

However, her journey to that seat has be portrayed correctly. She did come from a privileged family---a powerful, political family (her brother was also a mayor of Baltimore.) She did attend a very exclusive private womens college. She did set aside her political ambitions until her children were older. But to intimate that she was some sort of bumpkin, middle class, pollyanna-hausfrau is not historically correct.

simple and to the point Laura ...Pelosi is a PUTZ!!!!! ...why are you tryin' to give her a much needed "ata boy"? ...she's so popular and revered that her book is a full fledged flop...for the publisher that is ...Pelosi collected her bounty and ran with it...bet she didn't share any of that money with the underserved kids you note ...I hope the station doesn't think this a "score" for it ...it'll bring as much interest as her book has brought us ...across the nation we've all watched the miserable failure she's led over the past four years now how could you possibly sense an interview would serve us any better? ...you think she was prohibited from takin' the inatitive during the past four years inspiring her fellow party members to develop an energy policy? ...what's the chances, you tell us, had she acted to relax the drilling restrictions her party has created over twenty five years this nation would have been so financially devestated during the past three months ...we remain reliant on a huge oil import yet we don't have to ...make sense of that for us ...by earlier time tables the Dem prez candadiate indicated had they turnaround on their drilling policy OUR oil may well have been flowing ...the effect of that unless I misunderstand the knowledge I have of economics is that oil would've been trading for sixty dollars or less a barrel ...yes Ms Pelosi had been stellar!! ...NOOTT!!!

Here are some questions for her:

1.why she went on vactaion to spend time with her family when most Americans cant do so and gas prices need to be dealt with before the general election??

2. Why is she afraid to put the vote on the floor to drill ?(afraid she will lose)

3.Why is it that, in Canada , gas is only 1.44 $ a gallon ( SUVs are not an issue in Canada!)

4.Why does she blame BUSH when congress has an even lessor approval Record?? what does it say about them??

5.Can she offer an alternative that will go in effect within the next 2 years and will it be a cost as if we used gas @ 1 50$ per gallon??

6.Why does she feel the country is on the wrong track?? Due to the previous democratic (Clinton)administration wrong and liberal thinking 911 was inevitable!!.

It is stupid to say drilling wont solve things. It's call supply and demand .Maybe a former house wifes don't understand how those numbers work. But the more you drill, the lower the market price will go. Just that simple! All she has is BS about alternative energy but don't know how that can or will come to being the reality within thew next 2 to 3 years.

Also, Pelosi is living in a dream land if she thinks America must look weak in the eyes of the world just so we can be like by people who want to kill us because they hate our wonderful traditions and freedom!! To try and please them would be totally insane!!! !!!!

Laura...You are a chump!

If she cared about anyone but her own wrinkled sour self she would have made sure to do something (call the vote) on drilling for oil.

Her Marxist lawbreaking supporters in ThanFran Thisko wouldn't hear of it. They are to busy letting the illegals kill all the citizens in SF.

Just saw it on my laptop, all four segments. Loved it all. She really did explain how Congress works. I say my life is just dumb luck. Seems hers is too. Lucky for all of us USA'ers. Thanks heaps, Laura. Great interviewer.

Lightbulb, reviewing the past two years here in Metro DC. First of all, I lived in Garland, Dallas, TX from 1990-2005 and when I moved "back home" it was to another "foreign country", Prince George's County. So I've had a whole lot of relocation adjustment in the past 3 years. Just occurred to me, I owe a lot of freedom of speech to two political females: Hillary and Nancy. I'm grateful to them and their husbands.

Frankly, Bootsy, I and every other man, woman or child in the US do not owe our freedom of speech to Hilary Clinton or Nancy Pelosi. We owe that to the founding fathers.

As for how Congress works---that should have been explained to you during Civics class in junior high school.

I think if Laura wants a good story, she should do one about Mrs. Pelosi's college. See, it not only graduated Mrs. Pelosi, it also graduated Mrs. Sebelius, the current governor of Kansas, and Kathleen Black---the president of Hearst publications. Obviously, that school has done something right if it has graduated impressive women.

You're quite wrong. Women and blacks were not considered 100% humans by the founding fathers. Thomas Jefferson envied Jews and didn't understand that Hebrew was the original language of his bible. We've come a long way we Anglo-Saxons. Your type can't ban me any more and even if you can, I don't care. I'm all posted out to two simple facts of eternal life.
InterLinear Qur'an: Arabic 2 Hebrew
Battery power: Care and Disposal
So there:)
