In this business it's a hardfast rule to always assume a mic is "hot".   Reverend Jackson broke that rule today causing a firestorm after comments he made "off-air".

Here's what he said:   "See, Barack been um, talking down to black people on this faith based...   I want to cut his n*ts off..."

He muttered those words while waiting for a live interview on Fox & Friends.  Then,  hours before Fox aired the comments Wednesday night, Jackson came out apologizing to the public and to the Obama campaign.

He said Obama's speeches "can come off as speaking down to black people" and there are other important issues to be addressed in the black community.   He's referring to one recent speech in particular on Father's Day in which the Democratic Nominee was critical of absent black fathers.  Don't forget Obama himself grew up without his father.

The Obama campaign tonight is saying the Presumptive Nominee "will continue to speak out about our responsibilities to ourselves and each other"  and that Obama accepts Jackson's apology.

What is your take on all this?  Is Obama on the right track in his speeches on morality?  Do you agree with Jackson that Obama should "broaden the message"?  And.. do you think this will hurt the Obama campaign?

Obama says what he has to say to each group he is addressing at that time to get the pep rally going.
I believe Obama's mother did remarry didn't she? Didn't he have a step father?

As for Jackson, he speaks out his rear 99% of time anyways. Who really cares if a mic is on or not? Just goes to show you how he thinks for real when he isn't pointing out what everyone else says is wrong.

Why would cutting off his nuts make him more appealing?

Can someone please tell Jesse Jackson to shut his mouth. Maybe Jesse is just mad because the mirror was held up to him when Barack talked about Absentee fathers being that he fathered a child through an adultress affair. I am tired of black people (and yes, I am black!) tearing other black people down. Barack is doing something that Jesse couldn't do! Jesse could run but he couldn't win! Back up Jesse, Stay in the shadows and let the young try to succeed without you tearing him down.

I find it funny that Rev. Jackson make the comment of cutting off Sen Obama's N_T's. I am sure that is what his wife said when she learned he had fathered a child out of wed lock and paid child support out of the Rainbow Coalitions payroll. So it seems to me Senator Obama struck a nerve. It seems that 80% of all kids in AA homes are being raised by single parents. No longer can we worry about sugar coating our message. Our young women are dying from HIV at a alarming rate. So these convesations are needed and necassary. The problem is that we all want to hear the positive message the feel good message but no one wants to hear the truth. I beleive any time he ruffles feathers then it diminishes his chances of winning.

Call me a cynic, but since Barack Obama has recently been trying to move toward the center politically, I think Rev. Jackson's supposed off-air comment was staged. Why? To give the impression blacks are somewhat upset with Barack, helping Barack appear more white. Very little just "happens" in a major political event. Things are staged to give certain impressions. So OK, I'm a cynic!

We all should know by now what Obama stands for. Either we like him or we don't. However, the saddest part is that his own people have chosen to belittle him; even if it was unbeknownst to Jackson that his microphone was on. If he was a true supporter of the Obama campaign he should not have said those things not even in private. That just reminds us that because we are a part of a particular group, it does not mean they will support and agree with us all the time.

I am saddened by his comments because it not just based on what he said, but it is the epitome of our black race. I love my race, but we really need to support each other more, especially publically. We won’t always agree with other, and that is when we make the decision to either find something positive to say or ‘shut up”.
There are intelligent ways of disagreeing with someone without attacking them personally. Talk about his campaign, don’t attack the man personally. It just shows the lack of intelligence on Jackson’s part.

As an American -black , I really don't have a dog in this fight. I don't care for either. But I see what's going on here. Lookit, Obama did not come up with the civil rights leadership. That is closed group and it's hard to penetrate them anyway.

Although obama did community activist things in poor community, he teamed up a lot with white activist-as well. He later knew he needed the support of the poor communities (meaning blacks) to get his foot on to the political stage. Hence- Rev. wright.

Jackson has always been a mouth piece for blacks ,particular the poor whether he was asked or not. Jackson marched with Dr. King, while Obama can only recite king's words.
Obama went to Harvard and Jackson an all black college.

Jackson is not a Marxist at heart, but Obama is believed to be one ,by some.

Obama is so articulate that even whites are overly impressed. Jackson sounds very black ,on the other hand. And after so many whites, who have been listening to rap music for the last 10 years ,Obama must be extremely refreshing ,if not breath taking.

Although Jackson knows more about world affairs ,politics and social issues ,Obama was raised kinda privileged and shelter by white grandparents on the beeches of Hawaii. But now many whites trust him more on national and worldly issues than even Dr. Condelisa Rice! I think Jackson has the right to be a little upset there.

Never the less, Obama is a unique new comer. He is just what the left wing and democratic party is looking for -at this time ,because it's really about this stupid protest against President Bush.

Really people....why can't we all just get along!??!?! We are all human. The only thing that should matter for Obama is simple...state the truth and don't say things like "my people" that just shows lack of brains!

I thought he had one white parent and one black parent so how can the phrase "his own people" be used? I heard a man say it on the Fox news report (I missed who he was I tuned in as he was speaking, but he made reference to "his own people" and I see it again in this blog. Would we not all be his people? Caucasian and African American? And the tv shows him in churches now with all AA choir and congregations. I attend a Church equally black and white. I guess I am more blessed than I realized. I would never go back to an exclusive congregation! We, the people, keep the walls up or tear them down. I am an American. I don't know where my "ancestors" came from originally, since none of us came from here except Native Americans. Why can't we just be Americans???? I want to know what the candidates are going to do for us all, healthcare, peace, environment, The judicial system is pitiful. etc etc

He said what he really thought. Apologies are useless. He said it. He meant it and he needs to be responsible for saying it.

Cut off his "N_TS"....interesting language from the alleged reverend. But then again....does anyone know what seminar Jackson attended or graduated from?

I'll bet the news readers from fox5 will never tell.

I can't help but wonder how Jesse Jackson would be this day if he was raised by white people too?
Would others want to cut his nuts off? Sounds a bit deeper than ole jesse is letting on.

Re:Free2bme
To think race in America is not an issue and that Senator Obam will be embraced equally is idealistic at best unrealistic definitely. I truly believe his message of hope embraces all Americans. As a mother of 2 boys living in a predominately white area my church allows me the opportunity to fellowship beyond Sunday mornings with people who like like me. One of my sons white classmates asked him "why are you so black". So how do you explain to a kid that there is beauty in his color when the world around him does not accept or acknowledge him. I wish we were further along so that we could become a more inclusive America. Your statement shows the exact problem with allowing that to happen. Stop trying to go around the big fat elephant in the room. Lets have those conversations that may make you uncomfortable but in the long room will ultimately break down barriers. Ultimately it is not a matter of black or white if he is elected president. I want the candidate who will ensure my childrens future. I want the candidate who will put money back into my savings account. If it happens to be a a Reblican who can do that then so be it. But know that dismissing race in America does not make the problems go away.

hunterman, I tend to agree with you, plain and simple, TELL THE PEOPLE WHAT THEY WANT TO HEAR!

priveye raises an excellent question.
priveye, maybe it was the seminary of "What's Happenin' Now".

TINA2007, sadly you are not correct in your statement, "We all should know by now what Obama stands for."
No we don't!! And that is the problem, he still continues to flip flop on many important issues. Here are a few right off of thhe top:

He says he believes in a Second Amendment right to bear arms.

He now opposes late-term abortion.

He suddenly is a devotee of using faith-based institutions to deliver public services.

He now says that he won’t raise Social Security taxes on anyone making less than $250,000 a year. In the primary, he said he’d eliminate the threshold entirely, including on people making as little as $100,000.

He recently opposed the Fairness Doctrine for talk radio.

Now he says he’s going to consult with the military before pulling out of Iraq.

What EXACTLY does he stand for??

So Laura....

Tell us WHY, with the past history of Jesse being a liar and grandstander, that you in the press still take this lying trashbag seriously????

How many times do you NEED to be fooled, or lied to???

I would like to see what would happen to Jackson if he was held to the same accountability as those he goes after. What if he were held to the same accountability as others in simular situations. A year ago, Opie and Anthony were diciplined for threatening comments made by a homeliess man towards Rice, and the first lady. That was done in a joking format and they still were strictly diciplined which lead to their suspension. Jacksons comments were made of key, with no humor. This is a threat to a prediential candidate...what accountabillity will he be held to?

Ha, Ha, Ha ...Jesssie got to fat and sassy over the years buildin' a feed trough surrounded by a bunch of white elitists and an overly abundant flock of not even simple, just plain gullible, dumb gimmie do nothin's ...that power base has transformed itself, anointed a new figure head and groomed itself to promote a new era of socially, political correct agendas ...it's not the ending Jessie envisioned ...

...nothing more than same ole, same ole repackaged is all Obama’s candidacy is offering and Jackson has to watch from the sidelines …you know that is enough to p=iss you off, ain’t it?

…to repeat an earlier comment, neither is any choice I was hopeful of, again! …wrong candidates for times so we’re doomed till opportunity rears it’s head in 2012 and a suitable candidate to replace McCain comes on the scene ...

Okay once again we have a black man (Jackson)down another black man (Obama). Now weren't you upset about how Obama is "talking down to black people" then what were you just doing. Then to make that type of comment to another black man to what seems like he didn't get that upset bothers me also. Because this is still a race for the president's seat it had to be broadcasted. The racial gap that's between black america is one that needs to be closed but that is hard to do when you have people like this posing as examples. In my opinion was the comment made because Obama just might become president and Jackson is mad because he can't make this his HISTORY!

I'm really shocked at Jackson not for making the comment...but making the comment RIGHT THEN AND THERE! He knew once he stepped in that studio, every move he makes and every step he takes....they would be watching him.

High black political figures in this country know the deal where they can not breath without someone talking about it.

On the real side though....Jessie's comments weren't anything different than what other people would've said about someone they disagree with. But it's usually done in the home, at the barber shop, water cooler, White House....etc...!
