June 1st, 2007.

That is my last scheduled broadcast for Fox Five Morning News.

After nearly 17 years I have decided it is time.

Time to stop getting up at 3:45 a.m.

Time to take some time off,  and figure out what I want to do next.

Leaving is my decision.  Let my publicly thank our general manager, Duffy Dyer, and news director Katherine Green for their efforts to get me to stay.   And I thank them for allowing me to have a graceful exit from a place that has meant so much in my life.

I am a better journalist and a better person for having worked here.

It is not goodbye yet.    I look forward to my final  weeks.

Thank you for allowing me into your homes and your lives over the past 17 years.

I am very sad to see you leave as I have been an avid follower of you since the other channel in which I will not mention but you know it has been years of you bring me and my family the news. You will surely be missed but I hope and pray that you will have a wonderful time in whatever endeavors you decide to embark upon as well as hope that we will see you again doing what you are good at, delivering the most outstanding broadcast ever.

I too have watched your for many, many years and will miss seeing you each morning on the news. Over the years, I have watched your co-anchors change and watched you "train them well"..You have ALWAYS presented yourself professionally and I respect that. However, you also know how to have fun and I've enjoyed those times as well.

I'm sure it wasn't an easy decision to leave, but at some point in your, as it should be in everyone's life, you must do what you feel is best for you..You've done your time, served us well here in D.C. and will sorely be missed. I wish you well in whatever you pursue.

Lark……you are the epitome of professionalism. Fox5 Morning News will not be the same without you. I want it not to be true but alas I know that it is so I wish you God’s blessings as you embark on your westward journey. Fox5 just won’t be the same once you leave. Who will keep everyone in line and on track (smile)? Our loss is Las Vegas gain. I take comfort in the fact that we still have you here with us until June 1. May God continue to bless you and your family!!! You will be missed…..thanks for all the years of excellence in journalism. You have set the bar high and have been a shinning star for our youth to follow.

If I could choose three TV personalities to work for, I would choose John Stossel, Oprah Winfrey, and Lark McCarthy. (Like I have a chance in million years!) This is what I used to tell my friends when I used to see your picture on the metro buses in early 90's.

Three people for three different reasons. John, because he is as stupid as I am for letting the mind do all the speaking! Opera for her outstanding smartness. You, for your unbelievable calmness. You are the most laid back, relaxed, and lovable person I have ever seen. Before you leave, please let us know how do you stay so calm. You look like you never get upset with anybody or about anything.

I wanted to tell you this since I started blogging here. I didn’t, because I didn’t want to look like that I am trying to get a job at Fox. Since you are leaving, I can say it freely now.

Good luck and enjoy. I’ll miss you a lot.

I don't even know where to start, I do know that my mornings will never be the same. This is sad, its like saying goodbye to a family member, because that's what you are, a very close family member that will truely be missed.

Thankyou to the 10th power.
Good luck and God bless.

You will be greatly missed. I see the FOX 5 News team before I see my family in the morning and I feel as though I am losing a family member. You will be gone but NOT FORGOTTEN.

We LOVE YOU in Clinton

What Lark!? You are kidding right!!?? My wife and I had been watching you for a very long time. And you leaving is dreadful. We just got back home to the Washington D.C. area almost 3 years ago and we really enjoyed coming home and seeing you after being in California for 20 years. It was like you welcomed us back home. Tell me its not so!!

Why would you call it quits so soon. Other anchors have to be dragged out kicking and screaming. Oh my this is the worst television news that my wife and I have heard since returning to our beloved Maryland, DC, and Virginia. Well when my wife wakes up; she is not going to like this like I don't.

And who is going to take your place!? I felt that something was up all the time. But make sure that you smile more and have a more cheary (sic) heart for your remaining weeks. This will be devastating but I could tell that something was up because of the amount of days that you missed.

OKAY!! GOD WILL BLESS YOU IN WHATEVER YOU DO. AND I WON'T BE LOOKING AT FOX 5 AS MUCH NOW. IT was MY #1 NEWS STATION. NOW I WILL HAVE TO SEE IF I STILL LIKE THE SHOW!!! GOD BLESS YOU!

Lark,

I for one, will be truly sorry to see you go. I will date myself here. I remember you as a bright new light on the newscasts of a local Baltimore affiliate a number of years ago. You have done well in the business and I treasure the times we have all spent listening and watching you. Please keep your "fans" up to date on your progress to a new career. No one can replace you, we can only hope that someone willstart their new career and give us as much joy as you have.

I've anchored Fox Five Morning News since June 1990 and it's a privilege to try to bring you stories relevant to your lives. Every day is a new challenge, and my previous jobs were great preparation: White House correspondent for ABC News; an anchor and reporter for CBS News; an anchor and reporter for WJLA-TV; and a reporter for WPLG-TV in Miami. I have a wonderful husband and daughter, and lovable though undertrained dog.
