We're in it now. High season for shopping. The pressure is on to spend and buy. The ads tell us what's hot, and what we must have. It takes effort not to mindlessly go along and shop, shop, shop, before we've taken a moment to define what would really be meaningful for our loved ones.
I'd like to hear from you about treasured gifts that represented thoughtfulness, and the spirit of giving.

For my 16th birthday, I was given a necklace that belonged to my great-grand mother. Nothing special or exceptionally valuable about the necklace other than the fact it belonged to her and was passed down to me.

When my god-daughter was 8, her mother taught her to knit. I got a hand-knitted wool scarf as a gift. Again, it's worth an exceptional amount of money, but it's special because _she_ made it for _me_.

Last year, I had a friend whos daughter was having trouble in school. The other kids teased her. And to top it off, her mother didn't have the money to buy her Christmas gifts. She was only promised a few things like clothes and books (becaused she loved to read). After talking to her mother for a couple of days, I found out what she really wanted. I promised her mother to get her one gift off her wishlist. I ended up buying her everything she wanted and them some. The best part is I never meet this child, and she never knew the gifts came from me. I always believe that kids should have that one special Christmas.

I've anchored Fox Five Morning News since June 1990 and it's a privilege to try to bring you stories relevant to your lives. Every day is a new challenge, and my previous jobs were great preparation: White House correspondent for ABC News; an anchor and reporter for CBS News; an anchor and reporter for WJLA-TV; and a reporter for WPLG-TV in Miami. I have a wonderful husband and daughter, and lovable though undertrained dog.
