And now its harder for illegal imigrants to rent and own homes in Farmers Branch Texas. YES!! Now if only the rest of the country will follow right along!
http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/01/23/texas.law/index.h
tml
FARMERS BRANCH, Texas (CNN) -- Illegal immigrants cannot rent or own homes in Farmers Branch, Texas, under an ordinance the city's council passed Tuesday night.
Immigration policy sparks a debate outside a 2006 Farmers Branch, Texas, City Council meeting.
The measure requires the Dallas suburb to check a renter's legal status with the federal government.
"The federal government will verify if the person is in the country legally," Mayor Pro Tem Tim O'Hare said. "If not, we will notify that person as well as the landlord in writing that they do not have the right to be in the country."
The City Council tried to crackdown on landlords who rent to illegal immigrants last year -- the latest among local and state governments to focus on illegal immigration. Yet immigrant advocates sued to block that law, and the city said it has spent $770,000 in attorneys' fees to defend it.
The case is still in court after a federal judge blocked that law, finding that city officials were trying to control immigration differently from the U.S. government, according to The Associated Press.
Attorneys for Farmers Branch have said they believe the new ordinance clears up any constitutional questions.
"If we were sued for this ordinance and had to defend this ordinance as well, it wouldn't surprise me," O'Hare said. "We're not in this for the short term. We're in this for the long haul -- for the upcoming years and decades."
If landlords continue to rent to illegal immigrants, the new ordinance would let the city fine tenants and landlords $500 a day.
Jose Galvez, a contractor and 16-year resident of Farmers Branch, criticized the decision.
"Basically you have to apply for a visa before you can become a resident of this city," Galvez said. "If there's a glitch where the federal government made a mistake or they don't have your proper information, you're the one who now has to prove once again you're here legally.
"There are other apartment complex owners who believe they've invested in this community before all of this and the way they're going on about this is not healthy."
In a referendum last year, residents in Farmers Branch approved the City Council's stance by a 2-to-1 margin.
Escondido, California; Hazleton, Pennsylvania; Riverside, New Jersey; and Pahrump, Nevada. have passed similar laws. Most cities said they acted out of frustration with the federal government for not enforcing immigration laws more vigorously.
"The effects of the government -- the feds -- not enforcing the law is 100 percent local," Escondido City Council member Marie Waldron said in November. "We have to deal with the overcrowding in our neighborhoods. We have to deal with the overcrowding of our schools and the diseases that our children are exposed to. Our police department has to fight the gangs."
In addition, the nation's governors are looking for compensation from the federal government for the cost of housing illegal immigrants in local jails.
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger of California is one of a nearly dozen governors demanding that Washington pay the costs that states incur for jailing criminal illegal immigrants

The DC gov't thinks the answer is to fire the social workers involved in the cases of the girls murdered on 6th Street SE. Punish them yes, but how is firing them going to help? That is just going to make the other social workers even MORE overwhelmed with work. Governments don't budget enough to our social services department. I mean why should they? Social workers are only there to LOOK OUT FOR OUR COUNTRY'S CHILDREN. Instead the social workers have to put up with hell. Are overwhelmed with cases for next to no money. So now that we have even fewer social workers, there will be more children slipping through the cracks because there are not enough social workers to look out for them.
Instead of looking for people to blame, find out where the flaws were and fix them. Quit playing the blame game. The only person at fault for their murders is their mother. Running around firing people is not helping. Teaching them can. Learning what the social workers are going through and fixing things to try and make it easier for them to help the children is another answer. Fenty is not doing a good job here. He needs to do his research or have some of his lacky's to do it for him.

So now they are no longer Christmas trees? Accodring to Lowes, they are now "Family" trees. THAT IS CRAZY. In a country that is supposed to have freedom of religion. Apparently its ok to celebrate any other religion EXCEPT Chrisianity. Its still ok to say "Happy Hannukah" and "Happy Kwanzaa" but a big old fat NO saying "Merry Christmas". It has to be "Happy Holidays". Its ok to have menorahs with Hannukah on the packaging. And its ok to have kinara candles but you better not have a Christmas tree.
Whats next? Next year, are we not going to be allowed to call it a Nativity? Is it going to have to be called "A barn where a baby was born"? Or "A family barn?" Nope, you won't be able to say "Jesus".
No I am not saying that there should be no Happy Hannukah or Happy Kwanzaa. Thats your religion and you should be able to celebrate it. All that I am asking is that people need to show Christians the same respect. Allow us to celebrate how we choose to without worry that we will offend someone. Not that I worry about that anyway. I have never been one to worry about offending someone. And most of you know that ;) LOL!
Happy Thanksgiving
Happy Hannukah
Happy Kwanzaa
Happy Birthday Jesus
MERRY CHRISTMAS!
As for me, next thursday, on Thanksgiving, I will be putting up my CHRISTMAS tree

I keep seeing the woman throwing her little temper tantrum during the immigration meeting for Prince William county. ' IT'S YOUR FAULT THAT MY FAMILY WILL BE SEPERATED. THAT I HAVE TO LEAVE MY BOY BEHIND." Would someone please tell this woman that it is HER fault that she came over here illegally. That she stayed over here illegally. That SHE diecided to breed here in hopes that because her child was born here that she would get to stay? YOU ARE A CRIMINAL LADY. You can no longer pick and choose what laws to obey. We have that law for a reason. You broke it. Get out. And take your son with you if you are so upset with leaving him behind.
And to the other woman who said "I am ashamed to say I live in Prince William county now" Well, then... GET OUT. You should be thankful that your county is trying to uphold the laws. You want to side with the illeagals and defend criminals so bad, leave along with them

So the family of DeOnte Rawlings (The 14 year old boy that was shot and killed by 2 OFF DUTY police officers) are suing the police department for wrongful death. Now don't get me wrong. I am normally the ones that stand up for the police. And will continue to do so. But I also admit that there are some bad apples. And the 2 OFF DUTY police officers invloved in this are 2 of the bad apples. So I believe that the family has a good case. I just think that they are suing the wrong people. These police officers were off duty. So how can the police department be held accountable for the off duty officers actions? Plus, that isn't making anyone suffer except the residents of DC. Because whatever amount is ordered to pay, comes out of our tax dollars. So the wrong people are getting punished. You would think that this family would want the right people punished correct? Then sue the officers that did that for all that they are worth and then some. Don't punish us for their actions.

I just wanted to thank Holly Morris for bringing the Dinosaurs to us through the TV screen this morning. You made my 3 year old son's day! He loves his dinosaurs!
Also, I brought up this hint around this time last year, but will you be doing a story on Cox Farms before the middle of October again this year? We are taking our son there for his birthday in the middle of October and I would love to see what all they have this year and show him before we go.
Thanks again Holly!

So there was a cross burning on the lawn of one of OJ Simpson's lawyers this morning. To the idiot who did it, way to make this a racist thing. Now racisim will be thrown all over the place even more now thanks to you. This was not a racist situation. This is an "OJ thinks he is above the law and can do whatever he wants to do" situation. That has already been proven once. I hope it won't be that way again.
Big Bubba is looking forward to OJ staying in jail for awhile. ;) And we wouldn't want to disappoint Big Bubba

I recieved this in an email and thought it fit today's world perfectly. For the record, I am truely grateful for the country I am blessed enough to be in. And truely grateful for the men and women who fight to keep this country and those of us who live here free.
>"The other day I was reading Newsweek magazine and came across some
poll data I found rather hard to believe. It must be true given the
source, right?
>
>The Newsweek poll alleges that 67 percent of Americans are unhappy
with the direction the country is headed and 69 percent of the country is
unhappy with the performance of the president. In essence 2/3s of
the citizenry just ain't happy and want a change.
>
>So being the knuckle dragger I am, I started thinking, ''What we are
so unhappy about?''
>
>Is it that we have electricity and running water 24 hours a day, 7
days a week? Is our unhappiness the result of having air conditioning
in the summer and heating in the winter? Could it be that 95.4
percent of these unhappy folks have a job? Maybe it is the ability to walk
into a grocery store at any time and see more food in moments than
Darfur has seen in the last year?
>
>Maybe it is the ability to drive from the Pacific Ocean to the
Atlantic Ocean without having to present identification papers as we move
through each state? Or possibly the hundreds of clean and safe motels
we would find along the way that can provide temporary shelter? I
guess having thousands of restaurants with varying cuisine from around the
world is just not good enough. Or could it be that when we wreck
our car, emergency workers show up and provide services to help all
and even send a helicopter to take you to the hospital.
>
>Perhaps you are one of the 70 percent of Americans who own a
home. You may be upset with knowing that in the unfortunate case of a fire, a
group of trained firefighters will appear in moments and use top notch
equipment to extinguish the flames thus saving you, your family and
your belongings. Or if, while at home watching one of your many flat
screen TVs, a burglar or prowler intrudes , an officer equipped with a
gun and a bullet-proof vest will come to defend you and your family
against attack or loss. This all in the backdrop of a neighborhood
free of bombs or militias raping and pillaging the residents.
Neighborhoods where 90 percent of teenagers own cell phones and computers.
>
>How about the complete religious, social and political freedoms we
enjoy that are the envy of everyone in the world?Maybe that is what
has 67 percent of you folks unhappy.
>
>Fact is, we are the largest group of ungrateful, spoiled brats the
world has ever seen. No wonder the world loves the U.S. ,yet has a
great disdain for its citizens. They see us for what we are.
The most blessed people in the world who do nothing but complain about
what we don't have , and what we hate about the country instead of
thanking the good Lord we live here.
>
>I know, I know. What about the president who took us into war and
has no plan to get us out? The president who has a measly 31 percent
approval rating? Is this the same president who guided the nation
in the dark days after 9/11? The president that cut taxes to bring an
economy out of recession? Could this be the same guy who has been
called every name in the book for succeeding in keeping all the spoiled
ungrateful brats safe from terrorist attacks?
>
>The commander in chief of an all-volunteer army that is out there
defending you and me? Did you hear how bad the President is on the news or
talk show? Did this news affect you so much, make you so unhappy you
couldn't take a look around for yourself and see all the good things and
be glad?
>
>Think about it......are you upset at the President because he
actually caused you personal pain OR is it because the "Media" told you he
was failing to kiss your sorry ungrateful behind every day.
>
>Make no mistake about it. The troops in Iraq and Afghanistan have
volunteered to serve, and in many cases may have died for your
freedom. There is currently no draft in this country. They didn't have to
go.
>
>They are able to refuse to go and end up with either a ''general''
discharge, an ''other than honorable'' discharge or, worst case
scenario, a ''dishonorable'' discharge after a few days in the brig.
>
>So why then the flat-out discontentment in the minds of 69 percent of
Americans?Say what you want but I blame it on the media. If it
bleeds it leads and they specialize in bad news. Everybody will watch
a car crash with blood and guts. How many will watch kids selling
lemonade at the corner? The media knows this and media outlets are
for-profit corporations. They offer what sells , and when criticized,
try to defend their actions by "justifying" them in one way or another.
Just ask why they tried to allow a murderer like O.J. Simpson to write
a book about how he didn't kill his wife, but if he did he would have
done it this way......Insane!
>
>Stop buying the negativism you are fed everyday by the media. Shut off
the TV, burn Newsweek, and use the New York Times for the bottom of
your bird cage. Then start being grateful for all we have as a
country. There is exponentially more good than bad.
>
>We are among the most blessed people on Earth and should thank God
several times a day, or at least be thankful and appreciative."
>
>"With hurricanes, tornados, fires out of control, mud slides,
flooding, severe thunderstorms tearing up the country from one end to another,
and with the threat of bird flu and terrorist attacks, "Are we sure
this is a good time to take God out of the Pledge of Allegiance?"

I know that I posted this list before but I figured today would be the day to post it again. Especially with so many new bloggers. No matter how you feel about the war, our soldiers are still there and still need our support. Here are ways to help..
Its important that we take the time to remember our soldiers. Those still fighting, those injured, and those who have lost their lives not just on this important day, but every day. A wonderful woman at my job put this terrific list of ways we can help them together. I wanted to pass it on. Hopefully you all will do the same to your friends and families.
Treat any soldier.... A way to send care packages. Whats great about this is they already have the care packages together. You just have to pick which one to send. You can send it to a specific soldier or to any soldier. They range in price from $11.95 to $139.95

Donate to an Emergency Relief Fund. This money goes to help the soldiers and families with paying for food and rent, medical and dental expenses, personal needs when pay is delayed, and funeral expenses.

This one is AWSOME!!! Its a totally free way to send soldiers some smiles! You pick a thank you card (designed by kids!) And put a message on it and they send them to the soldiers. I think this is a fantastic way to get kids involved in saying thank you to the soldiers. My kids LOVE it. We sit at the computer every night and they each get to send 2 before they go to bed. Makes them feel good knowing that they are helping.

To Osama Bin Laden: Why are you still in hiding? We aren't
To Al Queda: Why are you still in hiding? We aren't
To the people that want us to leave Iraq: Look at the above 2 questions. If we back down, we are no better then they are. If we stop fighting the evil in this world, we are no better then they are.
On September 11th, stop the fighting on Capitol Hill. Stop the protests against the war. Spend this day focusing on the heroes that died that day. Spend this day focusing on the men and women that have died fighting to keep this war off of American soil. And the men and women still fighting to keep our families safe from terrorisim. Spend this day thinking about and praying for the families that lost loved ones on 9/11 and the war. Spend this day thinking about and praying for the families waiting for their loved ones to come home from war.
Take time out of your day to thank a soldier.
As for my family, we thank all of the men and women fighting in this war. We are truely grateful for all that you do
