First of all, I wanna wish Lavar Arrington a very speedy recovery.  I'm glad he's doing ok.  He is one of my favorite Redskins player of all time and there was no one "realer" on the field to me.   This is not a shot at him, so don't go there.  His unfortunate accident just got me thinking a little bit about the Winslows and Roethlisbergers of the world.

I have beef with athletes(particularly football players) who want to go out during the offseason and do wild and crazy things like ride 100 mph on motorcycles and sportscars, bungee jumping, skydiving, scuba dive with sharks and anything else that can cause a quick unscheduled meeting with your Maker.

I believe if you're under contract, there should be two options.  Either you are banned from doing crazy things like these and it's written in your contract or if you become injured doing these things, you should be forced to give back a large percentage of your salary because you have put the team behind the eight ball as far as having to fill the void you've left.

I'm sure they'll be some who disagree with me but the fact is, it's hard enough dealing with unforeseen circumstances on a daily basis.  Not to mention that football players have a greater chance of getting hurt anyway, doing their jobs.  Why put yourself in a situation where you can't be there for your team because you wanted to experience, "100% pure adrenaline"?

Holla back people.  Educate KoKo.

those provisions are already in place and can be written into a contract, they just arent in most cases. jason williams, of "i changed my name to jay williams so i wouldnt be associated with the one who shot and killed his chaffeur" fame, had such a clause in his contract. when he had his motorcycle accident before he even PLAYED a game for the team that he was drafted for, his contract was modified because of the accident. i cant remember who he was drafted by and i dont care enough to look it up since it really isnt germane to my comments.

its not new, but it must be negotiated, just like any other contractual provisions, and i would imagine that most athletes dont want it in their contracts for obvious reasons.

btw KOKO, there is no such word as "realer"
that would be "more real" in the context that you used it. sorry, cant help but point of the correct usage of grammar, i used to be a teacher.

hahahaha...point taken MADsMom. That was done intentionally. Sometimes, I write this way. I know it's wrong but I do it because I've had my wrist tapped so many times, I feel like I'm getting back at all of my teachers doing it MY way. ha!

I can assure you I'm aware that there is no such word as "realer" but thanks for the chin-check anyway. Nothing like hearing from a teacher. And thanks for skoolin me on the Jay Williams thing. I forgot all about that. I actually wanted the Bullets to get him when he first came in the league.

not a problem, i had a feeling that you know better, but its a reflex action - LOL!

yep, actually if i recall correctly, they cancelled, rather than modified, his contract after the accident.

the only person i can remember in the recent past who had a "guaranteed no matter what" contract is grant hill.

Hey Bender,

My comment was not directed at Lavar. Being a die-hard Skinz fan, I am fully aware that Lavar is currently a free agent. As a matter of fact, when the Giants released him, I thought the Skinz should bring him back and use him the way we used Monte Coleman some years ago, as a pass rusher on 3rd and long.

If you read my post again, you'll see my comment was directed to the Winslows and Roethlisbergers of the NFL. As I stated earlier, this wasn't a shot at Lavar, so don't go there. This is just a suggestion but you may wanna read my post again before you start the criticizing. I don't mind hearing from critics as long as they have their facts straight.

Thanks Buddy.

I was born and raised in Suitland, Maryland. A true suburbanite. I have a pet pirahna fish named Tragedy who's been with me since 1994. I work as a statistician, but I hate math. I am a die hard Washington Redskins fan. Sean Taylor#21 will always be a god to me. I love sci-fi movies. Particularly, Star Wars. I love all music but neo-soul and east-coast hip hop is my choice. I hate reality television shows. Besides, my lovely wife, my 3 favorite women in the world are Halle Berry, Jill Scott and FOX 5's Allison Seymour. These lovely women can do no wrong in my eyez.
