Holly, some I REALLY miss, others not so much, and a few not at all, but I still feel old and sorry that so many of the kids today will never have the chance to taste try or know some of these.

I REALLY do miss numbers; 1 - 3 - 4(much better tasting than Oreo's) - 8 - 10 - 12 - 14 - 19(Cracker Jacks and Fiddle Faddle never came close to SYZ) - 20 and number 25, ah Grape soda in botltles that needed a "church key" to open them, and they were in one of the old coolers with a top that that opened, and they had recirculating icy cold water flowing over the bottles, chilling them down. You could get your cold soda, and let your hand slip into the icy water and scoop out a little to put on your face.

REALLY do NOT miss number 15, arggghhh and ewwwww!

Holly...Great blog! I miss almost all that you've mentioned, plus the old fashioned Dr. Pepper, coconut moon pies, RC Cola..or PopCola, those old fashioned gas pumps that had glass tops and you could see "red" gasoline. You can still find BB bats, Bit O Honey, and that sweet coconut multi-colored layered candy bar that was pink, white and chocolate. Ahhhh. Such was life. I also, by the way, miss necking in my boyfriend's 57 Chevy at the drive-in...or at the drive-in restaurant. Hmmmm. I miss the necking most. I, also, miss the old swimming hole on a scorching hot day...and the picnics with Mama's fried chicken, potato salad, and an ice cold watermelon beneath the sweetgum trees. Hmmmmmm. Sigh.

By the way...there hasn't been a single decent grape soda since NEHI...someone told me they were still in business...WHERE???? We'd probably all drive at least a hundred miles to buy a few cases. You know, I think, I miss the innocence the most.. it was precious and very dear.

Avemaria your referring to ZAGNUT bars and yes you can still find them if you look real hard, but they aren't the same. They cut back on ingredients. But I love those!!

Pinky Baltimore is a stretch for me but thanks for the info!

I miss the old Coca Cola machines that kept the bottles in a side door and you opened the door then paid and pulled a bottle out. Well sometimes all you needed was a cup and a bottle opener.. I admit it.. LOL

My top three on that list are:

1) The Far Side. I looked forward to buying the Far Side calendar every year. I was devastated when he stopped making them. I saved a number of them and have them up on my bulletin board in my office. I truly miss them.

2) 45 rpm records. Oh, those were the days when I'd go downtown each Saturday to buy two or three of them with my allowance.

3) Drive in theaters: All I will say about those is "What a good time".

Hey...Realitycheck...was that guy I was necking with at the drive in YOU??? LOL...and didn't we discover the best kissers in town??? What about the corner drugstore? Remember when you'd get your allowance...a quarter that was paid on Saturday mornings? We would go to the drugstore and could buy 2 10 cent comic books and a chocolate ice cream cone. Oh...and Saturday matinees...all the old cowboy movies you could stand...the occasional horror "picture show" that gave you nightmares??? Ahhh. Great memories.

Yeah....drive-in theaters were the absolute best... I really miss those. But, what about the snow cones? They were twice as big as they are now and had a much better flavor! And, let's not forget those old metal skates that came with the metal key, and could be adjusted to fit basically any shoe size!! I miss those. Everyone got to skate, back then, and you could hear the metal hitting the cement from almost a block away! (ha, ha, ha...) Those were the days when kids were truly kids. You stayed outside all day long, shared with each other, and just had good, clean fun!!

Holly and all bloggers,

I miss a lot of the mentioned items, but the best is the penny candy, bb bats, old country stores with wood floors, and the friendly people. My grandma & grandmpa lived in the country (I was real young) and everyone was so great. I miss good old fashion biscuits and gravy (I make them now, but nothing like my grandmas biscuits)....Anyway life was or seemed so much better and easier, (but I was a kid) now Life is so hard, we are now all adults. lol!! God bless the good old days or so they seemed. Also does anyone remember The Lone Ranger, Rin Tin Tin, The Little Rascals, Howdy Doody, Roy Rogers, and the origianl Superman.....Andy Griffith, Father Knows Best, and lots more, yes I know they are in reruns now on syndicated or cable tv, but it's not the same as in the past. Just a thought to smile.

I forgot to mention when I use to go to the drive in with my aunts and uncles they had so many people in the car that they would put us (smaller kids) inside the trunk (I think you had to pay per card load or something) and when we got there, then we would pile out and have the greatest time.

LOL fm09216,

I had a 1968 Cadillac Coupe Deville convertible, and would bring that to the Mt Vernon drive in. We would have people in the trunk too! Could fit 4 adults in comfortably! LMAO! I remember it like it was yesterday!

That car was a land yacht!

A simpler time indeed. I could easily go back and stay. Well as long as I could bring my PS3! LOL I'm a video game addict!

Drive-in theaters were nice but the weather had to cooperate, along with the mosquitoes.

I think of all the things I miss I miss my mind the most, that and vowels in the spoken language!

I am really glad to see that I am NOT the only "Older" person here. LOL! fm09216, I had almost forgotten the old country store I would visit at least once daily when I would stay at mu Grandparents every Summer. Ice cold bottles of pop, Barq's cream soda, when it tasted real good, not the junk they sell now. The penny candy, I used to love was one that was called squirrels. Why squirrel's I will never know. It was a spearmint flavored taffy, and I have never seen any since my last Summer with my Grandparents, back in 1960.

I wish you could have shared my Ozark grandparents' house on a winter night, with all of the uncles and aunt and a gazillion cousins. They used to play for country dances, and when we'd all get together, Gran would get out his fiddle, Granny would perch on the piano bench, and everyone else would grab a guitar or a banjo. They'd sing and play and we'd listen til we got cold, and then we'd back up to the pot bellied stove, and remind one another not to scorch our dresses from getting too close. Then just in the nick of time we'd rotate to get our tummies and knees warm too.

Gran would load us onto his old red truck to take milk cans into town, and then we'd get to go to the country store with him, where he'd get us all the pop we could drink. And he had wonderful, kind old cows who would let us hug them.

The pop at the store was good, but nothing could beat Granny's hot homemade bread and rich butter. She's been gone since '64, but I haven't forgotten---it was little kid heaven, and they didn't even have a TV!
