I read the story  below and literally said out loud.. "you have got to be kidding me?!". Agree? Disagree? Blog about it!

ATLANTA (AP) -- Warden Frank Taylor wants satellite TV -- for his prisoners. Taylor is asking Clayton County, Georgia, commissioners for permission to spend $100 a month for the satellite TV service. He says he wants inmates to be able to watch "Monday Night Football," which is now on the ESPN cable network. Warden Taylor says having MNF available would be a so-called "management tool" he can use with the prison population. He says the TV subscription fee would come out of the prison's commissary and pay phone accounts.

why dont we just send them to the local hotel and forget about jail? this is completely ridiculous, they arent supposed to be "comfortable" in jail, thats whats wrong with it now. they're too comfortable.

BLEEP, I can't even afford that kind of money for stupid TV. Thats right, give a bunch of hoodlums even more stuff to fight over while in jail. What the heck is he thinking?

Totally agree with all of the oposters so far!!
"What we have here, is failure to" treat these scum like the thugs that they are! Need more jails like the one potrayed in the movie, "Cool Hand Luke".

"Warden Taylor says having MNF available would be a so-called "management tool". How about a LOT of hard time as a "Management tool?"

Agreed. I think HE is a "management tool".

Why not put them in individual cells 23 hours a day, do away with any extras, do away with parole, and (OMG) punish them? I heard a while back that some prisoners in Florida had access to phones and were running scams on people over the phone. The idea that black, white or hispanic gangs "own" a piece of the jail and can run it is dumb. They did something bad; punish them.

Well, actually fool would work, but "tool" is a modern double entendre, which I know isn't nice, but which applies to the warden, dontcha think?

We need more Sheriffs like Joe Arpaio in Arizona. He is well known for his tough stance on cutting privileges to prisoners and treating them as harshly as the law will allow. Being in a border state, he is also taking a tough stance against illegal immigration.

Here are some of the things he has done in his jail that have made him famous and either very well loved or very much hated (depending on who you talk to):
? Serves surplus food like oxidized green bologna sandwiches twice daily reducing meal cost to 30 cents/day saving taxpayers $20,000 a year.
? Banned luxuries such as smoking, coffee, porno mags. & weightlifting equipment.
? TV is allowed (only because the law requires it) but he limits it to CNN, Weather, government access channel and Disney.
? Mandatory 2 week English classes for non-English speaking inmates. Program includes teaching inmates the basics about the US government, US history and the words to God Bless America.
? Has his own radio station broadcasted in the basement of the jail. The Station called KJOE, broadcasts classical, opera, Frank Sinatra and patriotic music (the only music allowed for the prisoners) as well as educational programming.
? Reinstituted chain gangs for low-risk prisoners. Inmates work eight hrs/day six days a week (no Sundays) doing tasks like creating fire breaks, trash pickup, and burying homeless people in the county cemetery. Not only chain gangs for men but separate programs for women and juveniles.
? When Arpaio discovered that the white underwear labeled with “Maricopa County Sheriffs Office” had become

continued:
? When Arpaio discovered that the white underwear labeled with “Maricopa County Sheriffs Office” had become a sort of a trendy item and being smuggled out to sell on the streets, he ordered all underclothing to be dyed pink…this eliminated the demand on the streets for these items.
? To put an end to inmates being released early due to lack of space and to avoid having tax payers spend over $50mill for a new jail, he created tent cities. He got tents from the military, set them up in and adjacent lot and hung a neon pink “Vacancy” sign. Arizona can get hot in the summer and when the inmates complained he reminded them that while they sat in jail soldiers in Iraq were fighting a war in desert heat. It got so hot a few years ago that the inmates were seen on the news walking around tent city in their pink underwear.
