I was in LA the end of last week to interview the Top 24 for American Idol. The coveted list will be announced Wednesday night and yes.... I have been sworn to secrecy until then.

But I can talk about someone you already know from American Idol... the reigning Idol.... Taylor Hicks!!

Idol has done him well as Taylor is about ready to start his tour.... a tour that brings him to the Birchmere in Alexandria on April 15. His first CD which just came out not that long ago... has already gone platinum. He also has a book coming out in June.

He has also followed in the footsteps of Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood in that he has slimmed down and polished his look. He was succinct and practiced in his interviews yet his soulful charm still came through.

One of the things I liked about Taylor last year when he was in the midst of the Idol mania was that he genuinely was about his music. You could tell that was his real passion. If he became a superstar... great. But if he did not, that would be ok too because he would still be doing what he loved best... his music.

I am happy to say, after one year of Idol super stardom, Taylor was still true to his roots and as humble as ever.

So on that note... I will stay true to mine and happily continue to refer to myself as a Hicks' chick!!

Isn't it premature to call him a "superstar?" He's a star no doubt, but I wouldn't put him in the same class as the current greats in the music industry.

She didn't say he "is", just that if he became one, it wouldn't be as important to him as his music. I always liked Taylor! He just seems like a regular guy from the neighborhood. Glad to hear that my instincts were right. I wish him many blessings.

I LOVE Taylor, Holly!!! You're SO lucky you got to interview him!!! His debut CD is nothing short of AMAZING!!! I admire the fact that he is totally focused on his music and not on stardom. Call me a Hicks Chick, too!!! Taylor is incredible!!!:)

I'm not a huge Taylor Hicks fan, never liked any of his music. I liked Katherin McPhee to have won. I take that back I wanted Chris Daughtry to win but McPhee would've been good too. Eh its to late to complain who won American Idol last year. My people never win =o\

Off topic, my dad drove the lounge at Dulles I guess when you were heading off to LA. He said you were very nice =o)

I thought Katharine SHOULD have won last season. She has a much better recording voice than Taylor. But Taylor won over the voting crowd with his charisma, charm and commanding stage presence, while Katharine mostly sang on stage rooted like a McTree. Stage presence-challenged Carrie Underwood was able to overcome this to beat the engaging Bo Bice, but not Katharine. The best voice doesn't always win.

Also, Nessiemonster, Holly DID say that Taylor was already a superstar. I'm disagreeing with her. So far, his record and download sales, while decent, don't warrant that distinction yet.

Personally I liked Elliott Yamin. His voice was great. I thought Taylor was just...ok. My kids didn't connect with him either...they thought Katherine should have won.

America definitely made the right choice with Taylor. He has a great voice, is gorgeous, has tremendous stage presence, and is a true showman. His performance on the Idols tour at the Verizon center last year was just spellbinding. Taylor may not be a superstar yet, but he will be. Give him time.

Elliott is another favorite of mine. He also was a standout at the Verizon center. His duet with Chris and quartet with Chris, Bucky, and Ace were major highlights of the show.

Katherine is also great, and I love her CD (even though I was expecting to hate it when I found out that it was contemporary R&B), but she is not the entertainer that Taylor is. Also, while her CD is good, I have to wonder: is this the kind of CD she wanted to make, or was she talked into it by the label? I would have taken her in a more Celine direction, and I think that's what she would have preferred, too. The catchy uptempo tunes on the CD are a lot of fun, but she really shines on the ballads, especially "Better Off Alone", the song that is worth the price of the whole CD.

Hi Holly I see you went all the way to Newport News Va. for Chris but what about Ft. Meade Md. just 25 mins from DC and the Fox News station. Why haven't you went to her hometown and spoke with her friends and family. Between her and Melinda that is where the most talent is. How can Fox pass up someone that talented but yet travel over an hour away for someone who is ok. I see that Anabella is another person that fox talks about and she is not from here she just goes to school here. I want coverage on Lakisha and so do many other people from the metro area.
