You could call it a cat fight, but Conway Elementary School's cougar was no match for the Nittany Lion of Penn State.

The elementary school is working to change its logo after the Collegiate Licensing Co. pointed out the striking resemblance between its cougar logo and that of Penn State. The licensing company asked the school last month to stop using its logo on T-shirts, business cards and letterhead.

What do you think?  Are they coming down too hard on a poor elementary school, or just protecting their intellectual property?

Hey all-

We've shut down the myfoxdc message boards and implemented blog and comment approvals on our site temporarily.

If you're curious about when it all started, check out this FOX 11 Investigates story from LA. Suffice it to say that their boards and blogs (as well as other myfox sites) were spammed with all sorts of nasty stuff after that aired.

We're in the process of cleaning up the inappropriate content and so on. Apologies for any inconvenience... and please bear with us if there's a delay in getting your posts up!

Thanks.

An historically diverse field of Democratic presidential candidates -- a woman, a black, an Hispanic and five whites -- denounced an hours-old Supreme Court desegregation ruling Thursday night and said the nation's slow march to racial unity is far from over.

Did the candidates answer the questions about the issues you are most concerned with?

Let us know.

BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) -- A gunman opened fire in a Virginia Tech
dorm and then, two hours later, in a classroom across campus
Monday, killing at least 30 people in the deadliest shooting
rampage in U.S. history, government officials told The Associated
Press. The gunman was killed, bringing the death toll to 31.
"Today the university was struck with a tragedy that we
consider of monumental proportions," said Virginia Tech president
Charles Steger. "The university is shocked and indeed horrified."
It was not immediately clear whether the gunman was shot by
police or took his own life. His name was not released, and
investigators offered no motive for the attack. It was not known if
the gunman was a student.
The shootings spread panic and confusion on campus, with
students complaining that the university did not warn them about
the first burst of gunfire until more than two hours later.

Earlier this week President Bush cruised when put on the spot about the price of a gallon of gas.

"About $2.60 plus," he answered during a Rose Garden news conference Tuesday.

That’s pretty close, but the national average, which has been rising for nine straight weeks, is almost $2.71 a gallon.

Maybe he learned the lesson from his dad: Never get caught looking out of touch with everyday life.

The former President Bush once confessed he didn't know how much a loaf of bread cost when given his own consumer quiz in 1992. He had to guess, and ended up just about right, too.

So, it’s Easter weekend, a time when many hit the road to travel.  That means drivers will be headed to the pump for some fuel.  Do you know of any places selling less expensive gas? If so, we want to know!

Share where you have found some of the best gas prices in and around town.

Washington tourism officials are spending 150-thousand dollars on new way for outsiders and tourists to see the District: a new catchphrase.

Like "Virginia is for Lovers," or Seattle's new slogan, "Metronatural," the district wants to define itself with catchy new phrase and draw more tourists to the city. Not many people know the current two: "Celebrate and Discover" and Washington D.C.: The American Experience."

The Washington Convention and Tourism Corporation is leading a task force to think up a whole new brand for the city. The task force includes officials from the Washington Convention Center, Marriott International, the National Gallery of Art and the Greater Washington Initiative.

They're using focus groups, online surveys (click here) and interviews with city officials. The project is expected to cost 150-thousand dollars.

It's a trend among cities lately, with Seattle getting its new slogan and the popularity of Las Vegas' "What happens here, stays here," campaign.

Let us know if you have any ideas for a new slogan for D.C., share them here.

Draft of new international climate report warns of droughts, starvation, disease

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The harmful effects of global warming on daily life are already showing up, and within a couple of decades hundreds of millions of people won't have enough water, top scientists will say next month at a meeting in Belgium.

At the same time, tens of millions of others will be flooded out of their homes each year as the Earth reels from rising temperatures and sea levels, according to portions of a draft of an international scientific report obtained by The Associated Press.

What do you think?

Stocks had their worst day of trading since the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks Tuesday, briefly hurtling the Dow Jones industrials down more than 500 points on a worldwide tide of concern that the U.S. and Chinese economies are stumbling and that share prices have become over inflated.

Government scientists struggled Thursday to pinpoint the source of the first U.S. salmonella outbreak linked to peanut butter, the kid favorite packed into millions of lunchboxes every day.

Nearly 300 people in 39 states have fallen ill since August, and federal health investigators said they strongly suspect Peter Pan peanut butter and certain batches of Wal-Mart's Great Value house brand -- both manufactured by ConAgra Foods Inc.

Shoppers across the country were warned to throw out jars with a product code on the lid beginning with "2111," which denotes the plant where it was made.

We have been reporting on problems with D.C. schools for years. Many of the buildings are old and need renovating. Heating systems in many schools are a problem the past week.  Some schools were closed because they are too cold for students.

We have Beth Parker on the story again today trying to get answers.  The public officials we deal with in D.C. schools tend to not respond quickly to our questions.  Trying to get answers is difficult for us, so we assume it is probably hard for parents also.

Today at 5pm we are going to show you the response and progress on fixing the heating problems.

We will also give you the names, phone numbers and e-mails of D.C. school officials so you can help us get answers.

One parent Beth talked to this week told her the same problems existed when she went to school in D.C. over 20 years ago.  Years of plans and millions of dollars and stiil the same problems.

What is the deal? Can no one finally fix the problems with D.C. schools?

Blog your thoughts here.

Here are links to some of our previous school stories.

Maryland's Martin O'Malley just keeps moving up in the world. He's made the transition from mayor to governor so what's next? Apparently his own sandwich; next week O’Malley is sitting down with the owners of Chick and Ruth's Deli in Annapolis. They're adding a Governor O'Malley sandwich to the menu and he gets to decide what goes in it.

So far his spokesman says it will definitely include roast beef, but the rest of the details are yet to be worked out. Got any suggestions for ingredients? Share them here.

There’s mixed reaction to one Texas-based company's move that is catering to its immigrant customers. "Pizza Patron" is now accepting pesos, as payment. The company has already gotten complaints saying it's unpatriotic. We're letting it rip today about this issue, tell us what you think.
