On September 17, 2007, two officers took it upon themselves to search for a minibike that was stolen out of one of the officer's garrage.  The officers spotted the minibike that DeOnte' Rawlings was riding at the time.  After a gun battle broke out, DeOnte' was pronounced dead as an end result.

A lot of wild speculations came out of this.  Some said the officers shot first (DC sound cameras proved otherwise).  Family and friends said DeOnte' never carried a gun (Whatever).  Fenty took a lot of heat from the police department for paying for this young man's funeral.

All I know is I'M GLAD THE OFFICERS GOT OFF!!!!  Seriously, add up all the factors!

A 14 year old boy with a HISTORY (already) with police encounters.  He was known for skipping school and getting involved with the wrong crowd.  There was a time when officers brought the child back home after one ordeal and the father clearly said "Y'all take him...I can't do nothing with him."

Clearly the family dropped the ball with this kid.  CHECK THIS OUT THOUGH...the family still have a $100 million dollar lawsuit against the District pending (yeah right....good luck on that one)!!!  Some people...I swear.  How are you going to sue a city because you sucked as a parent?  Give me a break!

What do you think?  Do you think these officers should do time?  Do you think the decision not to place federal charges against the men was valid?

Bigsmooov, we are in total agreement on this one. While I am sorry a child died here, if he had lived, I wonder how many lives he would have taken in his future, as shown by his misdirected and obvious flaunting of the law.

BTW, even money says his father is the one pushing that lawsuit.

You got that right Starrman1. Now...if they were to have put that much attention into that boy vs. that lawsuit...imagine were that boy could be now.

Amen BigSmooov, such a young life lost and for what, because of a couple of slugs for parents that now want to profit on his death. I am soooooo glad my parents whipped my butt when it needed it, and got me in line way back then.

I would like to know where the gun went. After all if he was shooting at them and they dropped him then it should have been in his hand.Where did it go?I don't remember any of them saying that someone else picked it up and carried it away.If someone did do that then how is it that the cops allowed them to do so?
Also, doesn't that audio tape sound a lot like one single gunshot and not a heated shootout with multiple gunfire?

Trust me Mountain....what happen was when everyone started busting off with shots people were everywhere. When one of the officers ran to get out of the situation because of the angry residence retaliating, someone took that gun!

Now let me get this straight.A cop shoots someone in the head, kills them and, despite the fact that the cop is standing right there with his weapon drawn, then allows someone else to walk up and take the weapon with no recourse.
No description of the perp who took it or where they ran to.No ballistics info about the gun either. No bullets recovered.

Now ya know what amazes me most of all?You think a gun can disappear right in front of a bunch of cops but yet you probably think a few WMD's can't disapear somewhere in a whole country.Odd.

M-fan...the parasites that live in the projects can pick a body clean in a matter of seconds. Guns, money and cell phones dissappear faster than you can say crackhead.

BigSmooov, your post brings up some good points. It is just too bad a 14 year old had to loose his life. Maybe if his parents had cared a little more as you suggested. Well, I hope they can live with themselves.

Priveye, trust me when I say you're preachin' to the choir when it comes to hood rats.I'm not making any judgements on this one but I just think that it's funny that a gun can disapear right in front of the cops like that despite the number of pro pick pockets around.

M-fan....Like I said before. After the boy was shot and there was no more shooting, the officers took off in an ally to avoid the angry crowd. From the time the rest of the police arrived to secure the scene...that gun was long gone! You know one of those little rats took the gun. We all know how valuable one is in that environment.

WITH THE OUT OF CONTROL COVER-UP OF CORRUPT ACTIVITIES BY THE SHERIFF AND STATES ATTORNEY IN CECIL COUNTY, MARYLAND, WHY HOLD THE OFFICERS ACCOUNTABLE FOR ANYTHING.
THE LEADERS ARE SETTING A BAD EXAMPLE!
