Well, my fellow Americans, within the next ten years we may not be able to communicate outside our front doors.  My mother INSISTS on referring to "zucchini" squash as "zusheenie."  A first cousin is named "Cheryl Ann," and my mother has called her "Shirley Ann" for ten years, now...no one knows why, but when we attempt to get it straight with my mother, she says, "Well, I like my words...not those others that you say." So...with this small example, we sigh and allow her to have her own names for people and things....starting with, "Podge a hole in that....hammer that stob (staub...post)...turn yonderway (whichever street THAT is)...ya'll coming for dinner? (lunch)"   ...and the proverbial explanation for a fender bender, "Well, I put the dingus in reverse, wham, hit the side of the house, and  Claude's mad as hell."  Aren't these moments the best of humor...but the worst of the english language? Your family have folks like this?   Bet they do!

I see nothing wrong with ya'll.

But a suggestion to get your mother speaking correctly is to just ignore her when she speaks the wrong way. Only acknowledge her when she speaks correctly. Not saying to be cruel, but I do this to certain people in my life. It works. They might not talk correctly with others but they with you.
Ya'll understand?

Amen RED-DOG1!

Also get real annoyed at some of the bloggers here that show their complete illiteracy when they post, then get in a snit because you can't understand or make sense of their blather.
That really shows how badly our schools are failing today's youth.

I know that when I was in school, we were required to take a phonics class which help us pronounce words. Not only do schools no longer teach phonics, kids probably don't even know what that is.

No...myresponse...she says "one'a them islands down yonder." She still has WWII-speak...If a family member is on vacation anywhere on earth outside the continental U.S. she will say that they are "overseas." The sheriff, deputies, and highway patrol are "the road patrol." A big-adz cruise ship is a "boat." And...the more social she gets, she picks up other old gals' speech patterns and stubbornly rejects learning proper grammar. Oh well, maybe you are right Reddog....she will probably sull up like a possom and not speak to me for a few months. Hmmmmm. That might not be all too bad. LOL

Sounds like Har-war-ya is still in the future, don't be shocked when you hear it. Especially if she is picking up "Old-Gal" speech patterns.
