Its Friday morning and I have a mere 24 hours before I return and head back to work.  Yesterday, after getting into the city I hit the ground running at the Unity conference and attended a few seminars.  But one of the best things about this conference is connecting and reconnecting with friends after the day's work is done.  Last night everyone was talking about going to an ESPN sponsored party.  It was at a club called Crobar and true to the hype it was ridiculously crowded!  When Maureen and I got there we tried to hook up with other co-workers and friends but the crowd was so thick we could not find everyone-- In fact i must have walked the place twice looking for Wisdom and never found him!  We did run into CNN's TJ Holmes who had a circle of girls "sharking" around him trying to meet him.  It was so funny, I thought-- his ego must be ginormous!  We also saw a few of our co-workers-- Gwen Tolbart, tape producer Michelle Dunham, and tape coordinator Brian Balbuena

The club ended up being just too much, meaning too many people- I began to feel claustrophobic so we left.  Oustide, Maureen and I ran into WRC's Miguel Almaguer and decided to go with him to the National Association of Hispanic Journalists after party.   After a quick cab ride across town we were at a restaurant/bar type place called the Alhambre.  This was more my speed-- live salsa music, spacious dance floor and the bar area was seprate from the dancing so you could actually hear a conversation.    We had a blast-- however it did make me miss my colleagues Raquel Amparo who remained in DC to produce the 10pm news for you, our viewers; and Javier DeDiego, our old 10pm producer who just abandoned us to go clinch a golden opportunity producing at CNN, and Roby Chavez.  I wished I could share the fun with them.  One highlight for me was seeing NBC's Ron Allen salsa dancing.  When I see him live in war-torn middle eastern cities he's always, understandably, so serious. So it was good to see him having a good time.

I am posting my pictures.  I will type more later!

Sounds like a great time. Do they have a Caucasian Correspondence Conference, or are all races represented under the Unity Conference?

Great question! There were LOTS of caucasians at UNITY. And they were all very welcome. It was a great place to be. All teh networks were well represented with GIANT booths and set ups. FOX had a space that seemed like it took up 10,000 square feet. They had talent coordinators, news directors and HR executives on hand to talk about working for FOX and they had tv viewing stations set up to look at resume tapes of interested job-seekers. News Directors were happy to give pointers and suggestions for improving work to be more compeitive. It was great! I would recommend people of all colors take advantage of UNITY!

I joined FOX 5 as a freelance reporter in July 2006 and boy did it feel good. I'm a local girl~ born and raised in NE DC's Riggs Park. I still remember when FOX 5's Morning Show first came on the air! I'm a proud DCPS graduate (Duke Ellington School of the Arts, class of 1995.) If my face looks at all familiar it may be because I hosted a show in high school that aired on DCPS channel 28 called "Excellence By Choice" for 2 years. Anywhoo~ I graduated from the University of North Carolina Charlotte in 1998, and have been working ever since to get home to DC to cover news in my hometown! My career has taken me to some interesting cities. I covered my share of hurricanes while working as a reporter at WSAV in Savannah, GA, fell in love with Alabama as an an anchor/reporter at WAAY in Huntsville, and discovered the magic of blues and bbq (and met my husband) as a reporter/fill-in anchor at FOX O&O WHBQ in Memphis, TN. I have 2 adorable sons Andrew Michael(2) and Brian Thomas(11mos) and my step-daughter Caitlyn(11) who splits her time between here and Memphis. I love spending time with family and enjoying my fair city! I hope you enjoy my blog as I attempt to share my perspective.
