Well you may notice that some of your favorite FOX 5 personalities are missing this week.  Many of us flew the coop to head  to the Unity journalism convention in Chicago.  Unity is a convention that happens every 5 years that brings together all minority jousnalists.  It is a great opportunity to attend personal and professional development workshops and network.  I got in to Midway Airport around 7 this morning and hopped on the Chicago "L" train to head into downtown. The first thing I noticed about the train was that it was made in the style that WMATA officials say they want to convert Metro trains to-- hard seats, vinyl floors, no frills.  I guess it works, but its not at all aesthetically pleasing.  It feels very utilitarian.  I am posting some photos so you can see what it looks like.  After riding, i decided that I like my Metro and don't want it to change.

After a day on the convention foor I am tuckered out-- but we have a big night planned.  I met up with Maureen, Roz, Wisdom, Sherry Ly and WRC's Miguel Almaguer.  ESPN is throwing a party and a bunch of us plan to stop by.  Stay tuned for more details and more photos.

Hi Allyson.

I hear from people all over the US about how the metro subways in DC are like riding in a limo compared to other cities like NYC and Chi-town.

Isn't there censorship in MyFoxChicago? You wouldn't know. I found out they even censor the comments before they even get to the blogger. They won't allow us to start topics on the Boards. I've been to NY, Texas, Florida, Pa and had no poblems. Is Chicago an Island in Ohio? You might experiment with an unknown entity. Then again they may have a list of exceptions in their software. The Oriental Institute knows who I am. I never have been anonymous. It's more fun debating that way.

I joined FOX 5 as a freelance reporter in July 2006 and boy did it feel good. I'm a local girl~ born and raised in NE DC's Riggs Park. I still remember when FOX 5's Morning Show first came on the air! I'm a proud DCPS graduate (Duke Ellington School of the Arts, class of 1995.) If my face looks at all familiar it may be because I hosted a show in high school that aired on DCPS channel 28 called "Excellence By Choice" for 2 years. Anywhoo~ I graduated from the University of North Carolina Charlotte in 1998, and have been working ever since to get home to DC to cover news in my hometown! My career has taken me to some interesting cities. I covered my share of hurricanes while working as a reporter at WSAV in Savannah, GA, fell in love with Alabama as an an anchor/reporter at WAAY in Huntsville, and discovered the magic of blues and bbq (and met my husband) as a reporter/fill-in anchor at FOX O&O WHBQ in Memphis, TN. I have 2 adorable sons Andrew Michael(2) and Brian Thomas(11mos) and my step-daughter Caitlyn(11) who splits her time between here and Memphis. I love spending time with family and enjoying my fair city! I hope you enjoy my blog as I attempt to share my perspective.
