New Tour Traces Lincoln Assassination

Tonight (Friday 6/20) at 10, get an exclusive look at a new walking tour that takes you back to 1865 to investigate Lincoln's assassination.

Ford's Theatre is currently closed for renovations, but it's taking theater off the stage and onto the sidewalk with an actor playing Detective James McDevitt who investigated The President's death in the moments and hours after it happened.

You'll go from the theater on a 1.4 mile tour runs that runs to the White House.  Tours started tonight and run through October-- but they will sell out fast.  You don't want to miss my story tonight on FOX 5 news at 10!  I'll show you how to get tickets.

I went on the John Wilkes Booth Escape Tour sponsored by the Surratt Society about 2 years ago. That was excellent. The tour is given by Lincoln Assassination historians. It starts at Ford's Theater and ends in Virginia, where Booth was finally cornered at Garrett's farm.

No actors. No speculation. No wacky theories. Just the facts from real historians who know almost everything about Booth and the assassination. Plus, you ride on a comfortable bus---no walking the streets of DC or hiking through Zekia Swamp on a hot, sweltering DC Metro area summer's day.

I joined FOX 5 as a freelance reporter in July 2006 and boy did it feel good. I'm a local girl~ born and raised in NE DC's Riggs Park. I still remember when FOX 5's Morning Show first came on the air! I'm a proud DCPS graduate (Duke Ellington School of the Arts, class of 1995.) If my face looks at all familiar it may be because I hosted a show in high school that aired on DCPS channel 28 called "Excellence By Choice" for 2 years. Anywhoo~ I graduated from the University of North Carolina Charlotte in 1998, and have been working ever since to get home to DC to cover news in my hometown! My career has taken me to some interesting cities. I covered my share of hurricanes while working as a reporter at WSAV in Savannah, GA, fell in love with Alabama as an an anchor/reporter at WAAY in Huntsville, and discovered the magic of blues and bbq (and met my husband) as a reporter/fill-in anchor at FOX O&O WHBQ in Memphis, TN. I have 2 adorable sons Andrew Michael(2) and Brian Thomas(11mos) and my step-daughter Caitlyn(11) who splits her time between here and Memphis. I love spending time with family and enjoying my fair city! I hope you enjoy my blog as I attempt to share my perspective.
