Recently, West Virginia lawmakers are introducing a bill into the House which restricts newspapers from publishing the names and addresses of those individuals with a conceal carry permit. Supporters of the Bill say that it protects those who have been the victims of domestic violence by not disclosing their address to be viewed by the public or the other parties involved in the domestic violence cases. Opponents of the Bill suggest it is a violation of the public records act that allows them to view permits and documents such as conceal carry.
As a conceal carry permit holder, I personally dont care who knows that I have one. It could deter them from attempting to commit a crime against me. I do see how a victim of domestic violence would want to keep their name and address from being printed in the local newspaper. Most readers in Maryland wont have to worry about this, due to the fact Maryland is not a "shall issue" state with the conceal carry permit. This makes it very difficult for a citizen to get the permit, unless they have had a documented attempt on their life. Virginia is more laxed than West Virginia on issuing permits but have the same basic process of doing so.
Part 2 of the post is the question of if more citizens/students were allowed to carry concealed (after proper training) would this deter more of the outragous shootings we've all seen recently across the nation, or at least have a effect on the loss of life in these shootings. Look at the Colorado church shooting. How many people would have died had the church not had a armed security guard that was able to shoot and kill the man
Your Thoughts???
